Task #2: Connecting your Special Number using Glogster

This task is to be competed on days 3 through 6, simultaneously with

classroom instruction of Investigation 4 in the Prime Time (Lappan, et al.,
2006) unit. To complete this task, please follow each step listed below.

Days 3 and 4:

1. Using your chosen special number, create a brainstorm web

that explains the following in pictures and/or words:

• Why the number was chosen

• Three connections you can make between the number
and your life
• Three connections you can make between the number and
your school or community
• Two connections you can make between the number and
our society/the world
• Two interesting facts about the number

2. Begin searching Google images, taking digital pictures, and/or

searching images on www.glogster.com/edu to find images
that describe the items on your brainstorm web. Save these
files on a flash drive or email them to your school email
account for use on Days 5 and 6.

Days 5 and 6:

3. Log-in to www.glogster.com/edu using your existing account

and create a Glogster to display the connections you made to
your number. Your Glogster must include all of the
requirements from the brainstorm web and must include at
least one video file or sound file.
4. When you are satisfied with your Glogster, embed it into your
classroom wikipage.

* See the ‘Glogster Rubric’ for grading details. *

Task #3: Special Number Descriptive Wordle

This task is to be competed on days 7 and 8, after the completion of

Investigation 4 in the Prime Time (Lappan, et al., 2006) unit. To complete
this task, please follow each step listed below.

1. Using the vocabulary from this unit as defined by you on your

www.rememberize.com flashcards, complete the questions on
the ‘Task #3 Special Number Question Sheet’ worksheet as
they relate to your special number.
2. After the questions are completed, visit www.wordle.net to
create a word cloud using the words that describe your
number. You must include:

• The appropriate word from each question in Section A

• The lists of numbers that describe your number for each
question in Section B (when creating the Wordle, use a ~
in between each number and disable the ‘remove
numbers’ option under the ‘language tab’ for the numbers
to display correctly)

3. When you are satisfied with your Wordle, embed it into your
classroom wikipage.

* See the ‘Wordle Rubric’ for grading details. *

Task #4: Special Number Digital Story

This task is to be competed on days 9 through 14, at the conclusion of entire

the Prime Time (Lappan, et al, 2006) unit. To complete this task, please
follow each step listed below.

Days 9 and 10:

1. Complete the questions on the ’Task #4 Special Number

Question Sheet’ worksheet as they relate to your special
number.

Days 11 and 12:

2. Begin planning your digital story by completing the digital story

outline using the ‘Task #4 Digital Story Planning Sheet’
worksheet. You must include the following visuals in your
digital story:

• Each page needs one visual that shows or explains the

identified topic of the page. This is the picture that will
appear as your voice thread defines the word, tells how it
relates to your special number, and explains the concept
or describes the strategy used.
• Five (5) visuals must be either uploaded digital pictures
from a digital camera or must be retrieved from Google
images (be sure to save the files on a flash drive or email
them to your school email account)
• Five (5) visuals must be pictures or drawings created by
you and scanned as digital files (be sure to save them on
a flash drive or email them to your school account)

Days 13 and 14:

4. Upload the ten (10) image files, in order, as they appear on
your ‘Task #4 Digital Story Planning Sheet’ worksheet.
5. Refer to the ’Task #4 Special Number Question Sheet’
worksheet and use it to describe the concept of each digital
story page using complete sentences.
6. When you are satisfied with your Digital Story, embed it into
your classroom wikipage.
*See the ‘Digital Story Rubric’ for grading details. *
