VISUAL CONCEPT
A short statement identifying and justifying my 'visual concept' in relation to my scenes In my final digital paintings I am aiming to create a good sense of perspective (a clear foreground, middle ground and background) so they have depth and are more interesting. That is why I have been really trying to practice getting my perspective techniques right. I will have the lighting positioned in a certain way so that it leads the eye into depths of the environment, a subliminal way to get the viewer to focus on something important in the scene. I will have my excerpts, research on the books (the time/era they were set in etc) and influence maps to help me understand what type of architecture/ furniture my paintings need to incorporate. In my excerpt for The Red Room, the spaces are mainly dark and shadowy but things such as candles and the moonlight will illuminate the rooms / passageways and I will use hints of red and other warm colours relative to the title, (The Red Room) alongside some cooler colours to balance it out. In The Magic Shop, I think I will give the audience the general feel for the interior of the shop with some of the objects mentioned on shelves and the shop floor, including the perspective of the little narrow shop with an obvious foreground, middle ground and background again. I dont have a particular colour palette in mind for this scene just yet but Ill think about it and see what works well when adding colour to my thumbnails.

Scott Turner 7 October 2013 14:31 Hey Megan, I had trouble when doing this exercise too. This website helped me out quite a lot http://www.watercolorpainting.com/perspective_1_2_3_point.htm Replies Megan Doyle 7 October 2013 20:12 Alright I'll have a look thanks Scott ! I found it alright but I definitely messed up with 3 point perspective - it looks the same as 2 point haha, I'll do it again soon :) Megan Doyle8 October 2013 13:36 Hey Livi, I quite like 42, 56 and 58 in particular, looking forward to seeing further developments on these :) Megan Doyle8 October 2013 13:53 (To Georgia) I like 21, 22 and 26 from these, very nice ! Very encouraging as I need to pick up my tablet and get those digital thumbnails done, sticking to pencil so far! :/ Megan Doyle8 October 2013 13:48 (To Georgia) Hey, nice set of thumbnails! 11, 12 and 15 caught my eye :) Megan Doyle8 October 2013 13:44 Yeah it's working really well, I can see how you're progressing from your previous thumbnails :) I just think maybe adding a light layer of grey in the background to suggest something far in the distance would help ? Or just filling some of that empty grey space in the middle ground... (even just a suggestion of shadows or something). Anyway, looking good at the moment! :)
