Cyber bullying It is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person.

By definition, it occurs among young people. When an adult is involved, it may meet the definition of cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking, a crime that can have legal consequences and involve jail time. Sometimes cyber bullying can be easy to spot for example, if a child shows a text message, tweet, or response to a status update on Facebook that is harsh, mean, or cruel. Other acts are less obvious, like impersonating a victim online or posting personal information, photos, or videos designed to hurt or embarrass another person. Some kids report that a fake account, web page, or online persona has been created with the sole intention to harass and bully.

There are two types of cyber bullying: The first is direct attack, when the messages are sent directly to the victim. For example, direct message on Facebook, twitter or just a text message. Second is the Proxy cyber bullying, when using others to bully the victim with or without the accomplices knowledge. This is known to be the most dangerous because it sometimes involves harassment. Cyber bullying also can happen accidentally. The impersonal nature of text messages, IMs, and emails make it very hard to detect the sender's tone one person's joke could be another's hurtful insult. In general, cyber bullies have their own motives on why they are involved in cyber bullying. Some of their intentions have been identified as revenge for other peers, power, attention, retaliation, boredom, jealousy, and the pleasure of inflicting pain and some just do it to boost their own ego. Victims of traditional school-yard bullying often report feelings of depression, low selfesteem, helplessness, social anxiety, reduced concentration, alienation, and suicidal ideation. Moreover, conventional bullying has led to psychosomatic symptoms, greater number of absents in schools and poor academic performance. Although victims are usually the ones affected by cyber bullying, the aftermath of cyber bullying may also leave the bully at a potential risk of danger. Cyber bullies have also been linked to suicidal risks. Consequently, the bully is also left on the losing end. While some bullies

have felt guilt and regret over what they have done, others remained heartless. Vindication is also another effect on some involved in bullying. Bullies tend to feel that the victims got what they deserved. To prevent cyber bullying from occurring we must: Safeguard our password and other private information from prying eyes. Never leave passwords or other identifying information where others can see it. Do not post anything that may compromise your reputation. Never open messages from people you dont know, or from known bullies. Delete them without reading. They could contain viruses that automatically infect your device if opened. start a movement, create a club, build a campaign, or host an event to bring awareness to cyber bullying, and; Most of all treat others how you would want to be treated. By being a jerk to others online, you are reinforcing the idea that the behavior is acceptable. Reaction: Knowing that children and teenagers are the particular victims and commonly involved in Cyber bullying is very alarming. It might destroy a persons life forever. Instead of improving lives, technology played as a harmful role. It lessens the victims self-esteem and confidence that may lead to more serious problems. We are said to be the hope of the nation, but as what I can see now, there might be a possibility that we might not be able to fulfill and accomplish that mission because we are already building crime through technology. So, I guaranteed myself that I will never become a bully and I will never let myself become a victim of cyberbullying, and I will see to it that this problem will be lessened because in the end, its still us who will suffer for a violent world. We might not able to taste the beauty of this Earth. Resources: http://www.cyberbullying.us http://www.kidshealth.org http://www.prezi.com http://www.askthejudge.info
