Presidents Report
By R. Dennis Callahan
The Cerro Copper Factory tour was a great way to start October. Thanks to everyone who attended and thanks to Paul Hellickson for setting up the tour and getting lunches and Mike Todd for taking reservations. While you are reading this newsletter, your chapter delegates are getting ready to attend the 2012 Convention and Engineered Plumbing Exposition. I hope to see many of you in Charlotte. Looking through the program brochure it certainly looks like its going to be a great show. Well give you a full run-down on everything that happens in the business meetings, the Board elections and all the other happenings at our November meeting. Make your plans to attend Novembers PSC Tabletop, which will be at the Ameristar in St. Charles on Thursday November 1st. More information regarding classes and show times will be forth coming. At our September meeting, I mentioned that we have 2 full sets (volumes 1, 2, 3 & 4) of the latest ASPE Plumbing Design Handbooks. So Far, I have had one request and I have one more complete set to give away. If you are interested, please contact me or any of the Board Members. Our next chapter meeting is November 6th at the Engineers Club. Till next time, please remember to RSVP and bring a potential member along to the meeting. I Hope to see you all then.

ASPE was organized to serve as a medium in the solution of professional problems pertaining to plumbing engineering as it affects the profession, community and the general public. Advance the general scientific interests of the plumbing engineering profession and to inculcate the desire of scientific achievement in the field among the members of the association. Bring about greater cooperation and understanding between the members of the association and plumbing officials, contractors, journeymen and the general public

Thank you to those who were able to make the Cerro Copper Tour on Oct. 2nd. I believe everyone that attended really enjoyed the tour and came away with a bit more knowledge about the Copper industry and what goes into the production of copper tubing. Here are just a few things that we took away from the tour. The Company was founded in 1908 In 2004 Cerro Copper officially changed its name to Cerro Flow Products. In 2009 Cerro Flow Products introduced a brand new patented product, Cerro Advantage Press. We were actually able to see the piping and advantage press fittings in operation while we were there. They have a demonstration area set up that has been running at very high velocities and pressures and has been without a failure for the last 3-1/2 years. They extrude copper tubing that ranges in sizes from 1/8 to 8 in diameter and for a wide range of usage, such as heating, cooling, medical gas and plumbing. There were quite a few other things that we learned while there but the Cerro Flow Products people wanted us to keep a lid on some of those things, sorry folks. For those of you that missed it, it may be quite some time before they will allow anyone from the outside to tour the factory again. They are going into somewhat of a lockdown mode; it seems that old Arthur Slugworth has been up to his old tricks again. I will ask for a show of hands at our next meeting for those of you who caught that reference. NOVEMBER MEETING Our November meeting should be another good one; Bill Schweitzer from IAPMO will be on hand to speak to us. Bill is the North Central Regional Manager for IAPMO and will be speaking to us about where IAPMO is heading with the codes, specifically as it relates to the Green movement. Not only will Bill be providing us with valuable information regarding the code and where things are heading but he will also be providing our members with a one year membership to IAPMO, this is a $75.00 value and our members will be given this for FREE, so you dont want to miss this meeting.

Word is that the St. Louis City Plumbing Code has been brought up to the Board of Alderman for review for a second time. At this time, I understand that it is in Committee; however I dont have an exact timeframe regarding passage. There were items related to Chapter 1 that were being questioned by the Aldermen. We will pass on any information when we have more to report. Next month in my report I will give you all an update on whatever I pick up in Charlotte, at the Convention. Till next time . . .
