Math Lesson (Math Session #1)

Classroom Set-Up (10 min): Write your contact information, class agenda, and homework assignment on the board. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SAT Prep (2 hours) Icebreaker (10 min): Ask if they did anything for the Fourth of July! Review of Homework (30 min): Depending on assigned homework, use more or less time. Make sure all of the students understand how to get the answer for each question. Math I Groups Only Exponents (20 min): Define exponents, outline their rules, and show your students how to answer exponent questions ( CM p. 65-66). Allow students to go on a scavenger hunt through their blue books to find an example of an exponent question that they want to answer! (Use MADSPM to help students remember the rules) Algebraic Equations (45 min): Review the rules regarding algebraic equations. Use the practice problems to help reiterate the different types of equations. (CM p. 67-69) Look at Big Blue Book pages 244-247 for more examples. (If Time) Inequalities (20 min): Review examples of inequalities and how they appear in the exam. (CM p. 71) Big Blue Book page 248

Math II Groups Only Algebraic Equations (45 min): Review the rules regarding algebraic equations. Use the practice problems to help reiterate the different types of equations. (CM p. 67-69) Be sure to cover Simplifying Algebraic Equations and Substitution Look at Big Blue Book pages 244-247 for more examples. Inequalities (20 min): Review examples of inequalities and how they appear in the exam. (CM p. 71) Big Blue Book page 248 If you have already covered these topics: Functions (35 min): Have students do the drill to gage their understanding of Functions. Review the rules and how functions appear on the SAT. (CM p. 72) Graphing Functions (10 min): Explain how to read graphs and how Functions are often presented in graphs in the SAT. Reiterate the difference between x and f(x) in the graphs. (CM p. 77)

SAT Homework Assign the homework section of each topic you facilitated today. Also have each student choose/answer a question from their blue book that resembles the work you did with them in class. Each student will become an expert on the question that they choose and will teach the class how to solve it during the beginning of the next session. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Break Time (15 min) Students will have the chance to eat snack. Using Online tools or college search books, have the students begin to create a list of at least 6 good fit college options (2 Safety, 2 Target, and 2 Reach)
