Instructional Activities and Assignments Overview

This workshop is four hours long, I divided instructional activities into four main sessions, and all the planned activities and assignments will be completed within the four hour timeframe. Session1: 1. Introduction/Icebreaker: This activity will open with the facilitator introducing self, giving a general overview of the workshop syllabus, and giving instructions about the introduction icebreaker. Icebreaker: Learners will be paired with one classmate and will have 1 minute to gather main information about each other. Once the minute is over they will stand up one at the time and introduce the classmate they just interacted with. 2. Develop a weekly schedule: Learners will be provided with a copy of a hypothetical syllabus and an empty weekly schedule template. To successfully complete this activity they are expected to fill each day with their detailed routine daily activities and to add all due dates for week 1 found in the hypothetical syllabus. 3. Develop a daily agenda: In this activity learners should use their weekly schedule and develop a daily agenda indicating when they will complete each of the assignments listed on the syllabus in order to meet the due dates. Session 2: 1. Create courses account: After watching a video tutorial learners will be invited via email to visit a website and to create a student account in order to access this workshops session in an online blackboard setting. 2. Locate Syllabus and Schedule: Once learners have created an account they should locate the Syllabus and Schedule for this session of the workshop in order to complete assignments as instructed in this electronic syllabus. 3. Introduction: Following instructions in the electronic syllabus learners will create an introductory thread and post it in the Introduction forum within discussion board. The content of their threads need to reflect instructions found on the actual forum. 4. Assignments: For this activity learners will be asked to save their introduction as a word document and to upload it in the Assignments forum of the workshop. 5. Email to instructor: As their last assignment for this session learners will have to use the email tool within the online workshop. Following instructions on their syllabus for emails content, learners will send an email to their instructor Session 3: 1. Scholarship Form: To start a brief exploration of scholarship possibilities, learners will be provided a handout containing a scholarship website. By following handouts instructions they should visit the website and fill-up a scholarship search form. 2. 1 Minute mini report: Once their form is completed learners will receive a list of scholarships. They will be instructed (via handout) to choose one scholarship from their list and prepare a bullet style 1 minute mini report reflecting scholarship information as indicated in their handout. 3. Presentation of mini reports: Once they have their mini reports completed learners will take turns and verbally share their finding with the rest of the class.

CSW-101 4. Email scholarship info to facilitator: To conclude this session learners will send an email to the facilitator containing a paragraph that shares which scholarship (name, requirements, and deadline) they chose. Session 4 1. FAFSA account: In order to continue their exploration of different ways to finance their courses, learners will locate the FAFSA website within the scholarship main website following their handout instructions, and will start a new FAFSA application. 2. FAFSA application: Once located and opened FAFSA main page learners will use this last part of the session to complete the demographic information of their FAFSA application.
