Power on the AS/400 system. If automatic configuration is enabled on the AS/400 system, controller and device descriptions that are needed for the console are automatically created when the program loads. The system assigns a type number to the local workstation controller descriptions that represent the Input/Output adapters. These controller type numbers are used on AS/400 displays, including the Work with Hardware Resources (WRKHDWRSC) and Work with Controller Descriptions (WRKCTLD) displays. If you are using a 2612 adapter, the local workstation controller description for the adapter is listed as a type 6A58 controller. If you are using a 2609 or 2721 adapter, the controller description for port 2 is listed as a 6A59 controller. The following table shows the controller type numbers assigned to the 2609, 2612, and 2721 adapters.
Adapter Controller Type 6A58 6A59 (Port 2) 6A59 (Port 2)

For more information about both automatic and manual configuration, see the Local Device Configuration book, SC41-4121. The personal computer that is connected to the AS/400 system appears to the AS/400 system as a locally attached 5250 display. The display device that the personal computer emulates is determined by its screen size and character set. The following table lists the display devices that are emulated by the Client Access console.
Screen Size 24 x 80 Character Set SBCS DBCS 27 x 132 SBCS Emulated 5250 Device 3179 Model C2 5555 Model C01 3477 Model FC
