Tutorial How to Install Map img To Mapsource

Basic knowledge FAQ

1. Q: What is Mapsource ?
A: Mapsource is a program which develop by garmin to communicate to garmin gps
device, such as transfer POI data, Track data, and Route from Garmin to Local computer.
2. Q: So haw to do it ?
A : Basically many free tools in internet to help us install it manually. I will help to make this \
with the easy may to understand the flow how to it. because many tools come with little
help or instruction.
3. Q: Is it the same map which use in Garmin Xt with the map which use for Mapsource?
A: Basically its same, but different. Garmin Xt use the map from Mapsource which had
compile and joined. So in reverse order. If we want to use Garmin Xt map ,we must
reverse it first so the Mapsource can understand it.
4. Q: Ohhh I Cso the file gmapsupp.img is not for the Mapsoure does it ?
A: Yeppp. That right brother :p he he he gmapsupp.img is for garmin xt and the file such
numeric format like e.g.: 12345678.img is for Mapsource
5. Q: Where I can get the numeric.img map?
A: You can get it by extract the gmapsupp.img from garmin xt or use map which made
custom from other people for some area.
6. Q: Let start warming up bro
A: Yes.. First of all we need some program to do it.
1. cgpsmapper find it from http://cgpsmapper.com/download2/cgpsmapperFree.zip
2. mapset toolkit find it from http://cypherman1.googlepages.com/home
3. Gmaptool find it from http://www.anpo.republika.pl
4. or You can find all the necessary file in 1 pack in

Lets Start do this, I assume you download all the pack from
http://www.cintaabadi.com/it-stuff-article/50-install-map-img-
mapsource-garmin.html
1. Unrar all the file and put in your local folder E.g.: C:\maptools\
2. Put your gmapsupp.img from your garmin xt in the same folder C:\maptools\
3. run dos command and move to C:\maptools\
4. and type gmt -S gmapsupp.img

**Note if you got error when uses that line command use that line command you need extra command use
this line command type gmt -S -f productid,1 -m "New map name" gmapsupp.img I can not tell you.
What map which need this command line , just try this command line if you can not use the plain
command.
5. Then after that you will get some file from the extract process

6. You get file some
- 12345678.img
- mapset00.mp
- mapset00.tdb
- mapset00.mdx
7. Then type cgpsmapper mapset00.mp

ember dont use img file from gmt until you done with cgpsmapper, so the img that want we
use is after process from cgpsmapper. after that we copy the file

- mapset00.mp
- mapset00.tdb
- mapset00.mdx
in some folder in your local computer, in this exam I use the same folder for Mapsource in my tutorial
c:\garmin\XXXX, then run MapsetToolkit ,and select install a existing map set.

after that MapsetToolkit will add registry to used by Mapsource.

if you want add custom map (img) from Shared map from free map use the select image option and follow
the next step.
10. We almost done, after that run Mapsource. Then you will prompted that Mapsource detect lock map

11. Click unlock map than input 25 character Unlock code from your map provider like in garmin xt.

12. Then the last step , click menu View and click the Show Gps map detail and make sure the zoom status
at the right bottom corner is showing GPS Map Detail as show .

13. then its finish, you can use Transfer to communicate with your GPS.
