Lightning Ball: This modified game of speedball is a great way to change up the game of speedball while still keeping all of the skills very similar. The teams as well as the court are both smaller then normal speedball. This is a great way to get all of the students involved, especially those who are not always eager to be involved.

Teams will be made into teams of 5 o All of the teams will be preselected by the teacher based on skill o There will be 4 teams of 5 playing on two different courts. o Having smaller numbers and an even distribution of skill level will help to get every student get involved, especially those who do not always put an abundant amount of effort in to get involved in the first place. Positions: o There will be no goalie because of the smaller number of players on a team. o The positions are decided by the players. They can go for a more aggressive and offensive game plan, a more Defensive game plan, or somewhere in between with a balanced game plan. o Players will be able to throw/catch a touchdown pass, shoot a goal (soccer), or shoot a basket (Basketball). Students will

be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time. Facility: o Students will use the side courts in the gym as a court. They will still play full court, but it will be shorter then using the main court. o This is important because two games will be able to go on at once, separated by the half court line as the only out of bounds line on both courts. Equipment: o There will be one kick ball type and size ball being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 30 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o There will be a 4x4 soccer goal set up on either end. If a small soccer goal is not available two more cones will be set up four feet away against the wall in the end zone. Focus/Outcome: o The focus is for more students to be able to participate in the game of speedball. o Students will have more OTR with all three skills being involved. Objectives: o Psychomotor: Students should be able to score in at least one of the three options there are to score. (NASPE #__1_; MA o Cognitive: Students should understand when the best time to either shoot a basket, kick a goal, or throw for a touchdown is. (NASPE #__2_; MA CF #_2.19__ ;) o Affective: students should get every teammate involved in the game regardless of the students skill level. (NASPE #__5_;
MA CF #__2.26_ ;) CF #__2.17_ ;)

Rules and Regulation: o The game starts with a jump ball at center court. o Each game goes for 10 minutes running time. o If you have the ball in your hand you are allowed one aerial dribble (tossing the ball in the air and catching it yourself) while moving before you have to pass it. The student is allowed three steps before they have to use their aerial dribble.

o On defense or offense you cannot push any person. o You cannot steal the ball from a person while the ball is in the persons hand, only while the ball is in the air. o If the ball is on the ground you cannot pick it up with your hands. However you can kick the ball to a teammate or yourself who can catch it. o In order to score a basket the shot has to be taken from behind the three-point line. o If a the ball goes out of bounds the team whos ball it is will get the ball in hand at the point where the ball went out of bounds. o A goal is counted as one point, a touchdown is counted as two points, and a basketball shot is counted as three points. Safety Tips: o Make sure to explain to students that they are not to push, hit or use any type of unnecessary roughness while playing this game. o Make sure to remind students about surroundings so that they do not crash into walls or other objects or people around. Extensions: o Harder: students have to pass the ball to every single teammate in a possession before they are allowed to score. o Easier: students will now be able to shoot a basket from anywhere on the basketball court. Pass and Play: This modified game has all of the same rules that real speedball has with an added twist to the scoring as well. The goal is still to score in the three traditional ways. However there is now a new way to score. You can score by completing 5 passes in a row to your team with out throwing to the same person twice in a row.

Number of players: o Each team will have ten people on it. o The teacher will have the students line up in age order. After they are lined up correctly the teacher will give every person the number of either 1 or 2, which will be their team. Position: o The positions are decided by the players. They can go for a more aggressive and offensive game plan, a more Defensive game plan, or somewhere in between with a balanced game plan. o Players will be able to throw/catch a touchdown pass, shoot a goal (soccer), or shoot a basket (Basketball). Students will be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time. o There will now be a goalie since the teams are bigger. Also now that there is a goalie the goal itself will be slightly larger as well. Facility: o The students will now use the main court of the basketball court. o The goal size will now be 8 feet wide.

o The end zone will now be extended to 40 feet across and still 10 feet from the wall to compensate for more people being on the court. Materials: o There will be one kick ball type and size ball being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 40 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o Two more cones will be set up eight feet away from each other against the wall in the end zone. o They will need 10 pinnies to discriminate between the teams. Focus/ outcome: o The focus of this game is for the teams to work on their passing as well as their scoring. Making a goal for them to pass the ball a certain amount of times in a row for points will keep everyone engaged and focused on the game for much longer. It will also in turn get the people who typically do not get involved that much going in the activities. The main focus is to keep the game competitive but making sure that everyone is involved still. Objectives o Psychomotor: both teams will be able to successfully pass the ball 5 amongst their team 5 times in a row. (NASPE #__1_; o Cognitive: students will be able to recognize who is a good person to pass to and when to pass it. (NASPE #__2_; MA CF o Affective: students will pass the ball to everyone on their team regardless of the other students skill level. (NASPE Rules and regulations: o The game starts with a jump ball at center court. o Each game goes for 10 minutes running time. o If you have the ball in your hand you are allowed one aerial dribble (tossing the ball in the air and catching it yourself) while moving before you have to pass it. The student is allowed three steps before they have to use their aerial dribble. o On defense or offense you cannot push any person.

o You cannot steal the ball from a person while the ball is in the persons hand, only while the ball is in the air. o If the ball is on the ground you cannot pick it up with your hands. However you can kick the ball to a teammate or yourself who can catch it. o In order to score a basket the shot has to be taken from behind the three-point line. o If a the ball goes out of bounds the team whos ball it is will get the ball in hand at the point where the ball went out of bounds. o If a team completes 5 passes in a row to their team then they will receive a point. Safety Tips: o Make sure to explain to students that they are not to push, hit or use any type of unnecessary roughness while playing this game. o Make sure to remind students about surroundings so that they do not crash into walls or other objects or people around. Extensions: o Easier: every three passes now will be a point instead of 5 o Harder: There will now be a 45 second shot clock in which they have to at least attempt to score in any of the normal three ways. Reference: o http://www.belleville.k12.wi.us/bhs/physed/studyg/speed ball.html

Super Speedball: Super speedball is again very similar to regular speedball. The game is almost identical except for one aspect; there are now two balls in play. This will add more speed and intensity to the game of speedball. It will also increase the opportunities for everybody to get involved in the game.

Players: o There will be ten students on each team o The teacher will pick teams by placing twenty numbers into a hat, 10 number 1s and 10 number 2s. The students will pick from the hat and whichever number they pick will be their team. The teacher will maneuver kids around if necessary after the teams have been decided. Positions: o The positions are decided by the players. They can go for a more aggressive and offensive game plan, a more Defensive game plan, or somewhere in between with a balanced game plan. o Players will be able to throw/catch a touchdown pass, shoot a goal (soccer), or shoot a basket (Basketball). Students will be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time. o There will also be a goalie that can defend the soccer goal. Facility: o The students will use the main basketball court. o The goal size will be 8 feet wide.

o The end zone will be extended to 40 feet across and still 10 feet from the wall to compensate for more people being on the court. Materials/Equipment: o There will be two kick ball type and size balls being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 40 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o Two more cones will be set up eight feet away from each other against thee wall in the end zone. o They will need 10 pinnies to discriminate between the teams. Focus/ Outcome: o The focus of this game is to get as many people involved as possible. With 10 people on a team and only one ball being used it can be hard for every person to be involved as much as they would like to be. With the addition of the second ball into the game it gives everyone more opportunity to participate. This also encourages the students to be more mentally into the game. Having a second ball increase the opportunity to strategize and such about how to play with a second ball always being in play. Objectives: o Psychomotor: The students should be able to play both offense and defense during the game. (NASPE #__1_; MA CF o Cognitive: the students should be able to strategize how to handle having both balls in their own teams possession. o Affective: Students should demonstrate good sportsmanship and not cheat or use unnecessary roughness on the opposing team. (NASPE #__5_; MA CF #__2.26_ ;) Rules/Regulations: o The game starts with a jump ball at center court. o Each game goes for 10 minutes running time. o If you have the ball in your hand you are allowed one aerial dribble (tossing the ball in the air and catching it yourself) while moving before you have to pass it. Ultimate Speedball: Ultimate speedball is a modified speedball game where 4 teams of 5 play all at once. This is a highly competitive and fast paced modified game. Every team has there own basket and essentially home court. Their goal is to defend their own home court. If another team scores a touchdown on your home court then two points would get added to the court that they scored on. The court/team with the least amount of points at the end of the game wins.

Players: o There will be 4 teams with 5 people on each. o Because of the high intensity and competitiveness the teacher will choose the teams based on skill level and making the game as competitive and fair as possible. Positions: o The players decide the positions. They can go for a more aggressive and offensive game plan, more Defensive game plans, or somewhere in between with a balanced game plan. o Players will be able to throw/catch a touchdown pass, shoot a goal (soccer), or shoot a basket (Basketball). Students will be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time.

o Any player can defend the soccer goal at any time it is at the discretion of the team how they choose to defend there home court. Facility: o The students will use the main basketball court. o The goal size will be 8 feet wide. o The end zone will be extended to 30 feet across and still 10 feet from the wall to compensate for more people being on the court. Materials: o There will be two kick ball type and size balls being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 30 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o Two more cones will be set up eight feet away from each other against the wall in the end zone. o Total of 16 cones o 4 sets of 5 different colored pinnies. Focus/outcome: o The main focus of this game is to get every body involved and into the game. Not only is this effective for making things competitive it is making the students think, and be aware of their surroundings at all time. They have to use strategy to not get too aggressive and get scored on too many times, also they cant be too laid back and not give anybody else points. They have to be prepared for both and from multiple angles since there are two balls in play at once. Objectives: o Psychomotor: be able to score a touchdown on another teams home court. (NASPE #__1_; MA CF #__2.17_ ;) o Cognitive: be able to tell when they can be aggressive on offense and when they have to play defense. (NASPE #__2_;

o Show sportsmanship and involve everyone on his or her team. (NASPE #__5_; MA CF #__2.26_ ;) Rules and Regulations: o The game will start with the teacher tossing the balls outs in opposite directions and every student touching the goal at their home court.

o The game is a ten-minute running time game where you do not score points but give other teams points. o After scoring the team that scored will tell the teacher who and how much they scored and then the team that was scored on will receive the ball. o If you have the ball in your hand you are allowed one aerial dribble (tossing the ball in the air and catching it yourself) while moving before you have to pass it. Safety tips: o Make sure to explain to students that they are not to push, hit or use any type of unnecessary roughness while playing this game. o Make sure to remind students about surroundings so that they do not crash into walls or other objects or people around. o Make sure the students are aware that since there are two balls game play will be moving faster so it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Also since any team can go to any of the four courts you need to be aware of your surroundings. Extension: o Harder: The students now have to make sure that each person gets the ball before they score. o Easier: the students now can take up to 5 aerial dribbles with three steps in between. Flag Speedball: Flag speedball is a combination of flag football and speedball. The rules of speedball are basically the same. The biggest difference is that you have to pass or shoot the ball before you get your flag taken away. If your flag is taken away then you turn the ball over. You no longer have to use aerial dribbles. You can run and hold on to the ball for as long as you please.

Players: o There will be two 10-person teams. o To pick the teams the teacher will hand the students a card with a color on it when they are walking into class. The color of the card they get is the color of the pinnie they will be wearing. The teacher will then make adjustments if the teams skills wise are extremely unfair. Students will be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time. o A goalie is optional and up to the team as to if they want one or not. Facility: o The students will use the main basketball court. o The goal size will be 8 feet wide.

o The end zone will be extended to 40 feet across and still 10 feet from the wall to compensate for more people being on the court. Materials: o There will be one kick ball type and size ball being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 40 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o Two more cones will be set up eight feet away from each other against the wall in the end zone. o They will need 10 pinnies to discriminate between the teams. o 20 flag belts with flags. Focus/ outcome: o The focus of this game is to get a fast paced and competitive game going. There should be an abundant amount of passing and moving around without the ball. The students should be thinking a pass ahead to try and prevent their flags from being taken. Objectives: o Psychomotor: avoid having your flag taken while having the ball for 5 seconds. (NASPE #__1_; MA CF #__2.17_ ;) o Cognitive: Students should understand where to move to in order to be undefended and receive the ball. (NASPE #__2_; o Affective: Students should respect the boundaries and the equipment at all times. (NASPE #__5_; MA CF #__2.26_ ;) Rules and regulations: o The game starts with a jump ball at center court. o Each game goes for 10 minutes running time. o On defense or offense you cannot push any person. o You cannot steal the ball from a person while the ball is in the persons hand, only while the ball is in the air. o If the ball is on the ground you cannot pick it up with your hands. o If a the ball goes out of bounds the team whos ball it is will get the ball in hand at the point where the ball went out of bounds. o If your flag gets taken while you have are in possession of the ball you must give the other team the ball and put your flag back on. o Safety Tips: o Make sure to explain to students that they are not to push, hit or use any type of unnecessary roughness while playing this game. o Make sure to remind students about surroundings so that they do not crash into walls or other objects or people around. o Make sure the students are aware that since there are two balls game play will be moving faster so it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Extensions: o Harder: now the students have to use an aerial dribble while dribbling. There is no limit on how many aerial dribbles they make how however. o Easier: the students will now have to take both of the person with the balls flags off before they turn the ball over. Smallball: Small ball is a modified speedball game in a few different ways. First off, the ball being used is smaller then normal. It is about the size of a handball. Secondly the point scoring is not as limited any longer. As the distance gets further away the points get higher and higher. For instance if a touchdown is thrown from over half court it is worth 5 points as opposed to two points. The same goes for shooting in soccer and throwing touchdowns.

Players: o There will be two teams of ten. o The teacher will write down every students name and put it into a hat. Then the teacher will pull out a name one by one. Every other name is on the same team. Positions o The positions are decided by the players. They can go for a more aggressive and offensive game plan, more Defensive game plans, or somewhere in between with a balanced game plan. o Players will be able to throw/catch a touchdown pass, shoot a goal (soccer), or shoot a basket (Basketball). Students will be able to assume these interchangeable and rapid moving positions at any time. o There will also be a goalie that can defend the soccer goal. Facility: o The students will use the main basketball court.

o The goal size will be 8 feet wide. o The end zone will be extended to 40 feet across and still 10 feet from the wall to compensate for more people being on the court. Materials: o There will be one handball type and size ball being used. o The teacher will set up an end zone with two cones 40 feet apart and ten feet away from the wall. o Two more cones will be set up eight feet away from each other against the wall in the end zone. o They will need 10 pinnies to discriminate between the teams. Focus/outcome: o The purpose of this modified game is to have the students explore different ways to score and score more points then they are used to. This will make it easier for them to keep games close and can come back in a competitive way. Objectives: o Psychomotor: every student should be able to score in at least one of the three major ways. (NASPE #__1_; MA CF o Cognitive: The students should be able to understand when is the proper time to go for a high risk/high reward shot and when not too. . (NASPE #__2_; MA CF #_2.19__ ;) o Affective: the students should respect and listen to the teacher throughout the entire lesson. (NASPE #__5_; MA CF Rules and Regulations: o The game starts with a jump ball at center court. o Each game goes for 10 minutes running time. o On defense or offense you cannot push any person. o You cannot steal the ball from a person while the ball is in the persons hand, only while the ball is in the air. o If the ball is on the ground you cannot pick it up with your hands.
