Wetlands
By Jon A. Kusler, William J. Mitsch and Joseph S. Larson Main Points Wetlands are quickly disappearing When undisturbed wetlands can prevent flooding Wetlands have sensitive water levels, meaning the water depends on quality and quantity in the area Provides an ecosystem Hydrophytes and hydric soils can adapt to flooding Wetlands can occur in cold climates where permafrost occurs, retaining water and lowering evaporation rates Waters rise or fall depends on tides, precipitation, runoff, and the activity of humans and animals Authors Main Points Wetlands are very important even more than we think they are. They serve as reproductive or feeding sites for some species, and reduce wave impact and pollution which are very important. Only 6% of land on earth is wetlands which is sad. Wetlands have started to decrease as the years pass. Many animals rely on wetlands for things such as, water, food, shelter, and reproduction areas. They are highly dependent on the quantity and quality of water in their immediate area, and limit the damaging effects of

waves, convey and store floodwater's trap sediment and reduce pollution. My Thoughts Us as humans do things such as creating so many buildings that end up destroying the homes of animals and species. We don't realize how important wetlands are to our ecosystem. They provide the animals with food, shelter, and a reproductive area. We do things to benefit ourselves, but don't realize the effects this will cause the environment. Wetlands not only provide for the animals, but they provide for humans as well and not everyone knows that They prevent floods, and reduce pollution. What we should do is make people more aware about the situation of wetlands. With more people aware of the importance of wetlands we can help prevent more wetlands from being destroyed. So what ? Wetlands are a very important part of our ecosystem. If we dont do anything to prevent them from being destroyed what will reduce the impact of heavy waves, the flooding, and provide shelter for plants and animals. What if? If we dont do anything about it we can lose all of our wetlands and all habitats that depend on that would e gone too. Also there would be more Flooding. Says Who? Says Jon A. Kusler Williams J. Mitsch and Joseph S. Larson. Along with many other people in the world who have studied this.

What Does This Remind Me Of? This actually reminds me of The Lorax Because something similar actually happened in this story. In The Lorax all the tress and habitats were destroyed because the Once-leer didnt realize what he was doing on time and this can happen to our wetlands.
