GRF ASSEMBLY
The GRF distributes IF CL, output from the UHF SATCOM and Ku-band SATCOM subsystems, to the antennas. The GRF controls power output to the UHF SATCOM antenna. An LNA provides amplification of the UHF SATCOM RL. The UHF RL is sent to the RT-1830 Modem for demodulation. The GRF sends the Ku-Band SATCOM RL to the BEM. The GRF also provides UHF SATCOM and Ku-Band SATCOM signals to the RF Monitor and Spectrum Analyzer.

The RT-1830 UHF Modem communicates with up to three AICS via a TDMA (UHF) satellite link using DAMA. The modem provides a secure CL with a digital rate of 75 bps to 4800 bps and a secure RL rate of 75 bps to 4800 bps. The CL frequency ranges between 292 and 311 MHz (typical CL value is 308.05 MHz). The RL frequency ranges between 250 and 270 MHz (typical RL value is 267.05 MHz). The modem negotiates and maintains a dedicated network on the satellite UHF transponder. The signals include command data, command clock, status clock, and status data for up to 3 aircraft. The modem receives the UHF SATCOM RL from the GRF. The modem sends CL data to the HPA and sends received status data to the GIBA. The modem has an RS-423 connection for VNTC control and setups. Connection is through the PCD Switch Panel.

DIA
Data Interface Assembly (DIA) provides an interface for baseband (un-modulated) CL and RL signals to/from the Ku SATCOM patch panel and the GCI. DIA serves as the red/black interface between the GCI and Ku SATCOM BEM. DIA uses ECL line drivers to provide Red/Black separation between the GCI and Ku-Band SATCOM link equipment.

RT-1830 MODEM

OC-3

The RT-1830 modem is a single UHF channel, DAMA modulator. When combined with an external 200 Watt power amplifier, LNA/diplexer, and antenna, the RT-1830 terminal comprises a complete low-cost UHF SATCOM system that can meet all Legacy DAMA and Integrated Waveform (IW) MILSTDs. A simple software download will upgrade the terminal to the latest MILSTD revisions as they become available. The modem has BIT capabilities.

The Satellite Terminal Reachback System (STRS) allows geographical separation of an MCE and a satellite communication TFT. This enables a CONUS-based MCE the ability to control an air vehicle in a remote area using commercial Kuband satellites. STRS provides the capability to communicate with a remote satellite ground station using the MCE Ku-Band SATCOM baseband CL and RL data from the Ku Patch Panel. Within the remote satellite ground station, the Terminal Reachback Interface Kit (TRIK) modem converts between IF and base band serial data. The TRIK within the remote facility and the MCE contain a serialto-ATM converter which converts the CL and RL data streams to ATM cells. The data streams can then be transmitted through commercial ATM networks. The TRIK is a self-contained communications suite located within a remote satellite communications facility having a TFT.

The INMARSAT communication link provides a secure, full duplex digital link between the aircraft and the MCE. The INMARSAT link is favored for command, control, and status functions though is intended to augment the primary UHF SATCOM link. When the aircraft is over the ocean and out of range of the Ku and UHF satellites INMARSAT is often the only functional communications link.

The GIBA provides an encrypted 2-way communications path between the GCI and the telephone line or the UHF SATCOM satellite. CL and RL data for the INMARSAT link is encrypted/decrypted within the GIBA. The GIBA does not store phone numbers in memory. The numbers to be dialed by the GIBA are transmitted from the user 1553 interface to the GCI and then to the GIBA. A unique telephone number is assigned for the GIBA. The telephone modem operates at 2400 bps, 1920 bps effective. The default values for the modems data communication are 2400 bps, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit, no parity, and tone dialing. When INMARSAT is not in use the GIBA contains switching circuitry to allow this data channel to be utilized by the UHF SATCOM link by routing the data to the RT-1830 modem. The GIBA also provides an RS-485 connection to the CMA computer. This connection is used for configuration and monitoring of the INMARSAT link.

Fireberd Electronic Systems Test Set (ESTS) is used to analyze the quality of communications circuitry. The ESTS transmits a data test pattern and compares the received pattern to the original transmitted pattern. The ESTS is used for operational monitoring of PMED channel 1 PRBS as available from the AICS. ESTS also works to test and troubleshoot PMED data and CLK. Any errors occurring in the test loops are indicated by the ESTS.

The GCI provides the interface between the users and eight simultaneous communication links. The GCI provides a 1553 bus connection to the NBIU for the CL and RL. Internally, the LCP CCA provides multiplexing of the operator workstation commands into the CL channels. A CL channel is provided for each of the eight MCE data links. The Ku-Band SATCOM Mux/Demux CCA provides CL PMEC channel multiplexing and encryption. The Mux/Demux CCA provides RL PMED channel demultiplexing and decryption. The GCI provides an AIC-25/26-compatible audio channel input/output to the user. The audio channel is CVSD-coded on the CL and CVSD-decoded on the RL. The CDL LOS Ground DeRate Changer CCA provides High Rate RL SENSOR DATA re-drive and rate change. The Rate Changer CCA converts the CDL LOS I2, I3, Q1, Q2, and Q3 channels to the 8-bit sensor data and clock rate of the current Ku-Band SATCOM data rate. The GCI provides high rate 8-bit sensor data to the WBIU for B20 and B30 air vehicles. B40 (MP-RTIP) sensor data is routed from the SMU directly to the Image Server thru the MCE router. For ASIP, the MCE merely acts as a pass-through for the C2 data sent to and SIGINT data received from the ASIP subsystem. The SIGINT data is downlinked from the GHAV via the Ku-Band SATCOM data link. The MCE only has a limited on/off control of the ASIP subsystem.

The Control Monitor and Alarm Computer (CMA) is located in the CMA computer drawer in rack 2A1. The CMA is used to control the UHF SATCOM, Ku SATCOM, and INMARSAT data links. For more detailed information on the CMA Computer refer to RD2-A-GS-35-00-00A-042A-A. The ViaSat Network Terminal Controller (VNTC) software can control numerous radios/modems. The VNTC can configure the modems or terminals to different modes of satellite communications. These parameters can be stored as Presets for subsequent terminal and/or service configurations. The VNTC allows the user to initiate and monitor real time satellite communications. Visual and/or sound alarms are available to provide feedback to the user. The VNTC can be configured to automatically log significant events including PC/modem communications, alarms, warnings, and information events. ETP provides C2, health, status, sensor data and audio to/from the AICS and an RGS. Within the Air Vehicle, the ETP subsystem uses the Ku-Band SATCOM equipment to communicate with military satellites. Therefore, ETP operates mutually exclusive with civilian Ku-SATCOM. The AICS can transmit simultaneously in the ETP and CDL links. C2, voice and SA data from the MCE is routed via ATM to the Remote Ground Station (RGS) for uplink. ETP can transmit data to the RGS which contains status for up to three air vehicles. The messages contain position, airspeed, next waypoint and other information as required to convey the intent of the GH pilot. The AICS provides un-protocoled PMED-10 status information in the ETP return link in the absence of the ETP command link. This capability allows the CIP processor at a remote Imagery Exploitation Site to receive status information without transmitting in the command link.

GSMU routes B20 and B30 SENSOR DATA to the GCI. The GCI then delivers the SENSOR DATA to the WBIU via an 8-bit ECL parallel connection. For B40, GSMU passes MP-RTIP sensor data directly to the Image Server, via MCE Router, thus by-passing WBIU. For B40, the Sensor Operator Workstation provides GbE connectivity between GSMU and the Image Server. The GSMU is capable of streaming GMTI data directly to the image server.
