INTRODUCTION
Fixturlaser Documenter is designed to obtain measurements from a Fixturlaser Display Unit, classify, document, store and retrieve them. In addition to allowing the user to manage all the measurement information the Fixturlaser Documenter allows one to view and print reports on the data that has been captured. It therefore provides a useful data acquisition and analysis tool that would be of significant use to all users of Fixturlaser Alignment Systems. Fixturlaser Documenter allows the user to capture the following types of measurement data from the Display Unit: Shaft Alignment Horizontal Machines Shaft Alignment Vertical Machines Shaft Alignment Cardan Shafts Machine Train Alignment Single Axis Straightness Measurement Dual Axes Straightness Measurement Roll Parallelism Measurement Flatness Measurement These measurements are transferred to the Fixturlaser Documenter by a serial interface from the Display Unit to a PC. The Fixturlaser Documenter then allows the user to categorise and document the measurements before storing them in a database. You can select any measurement and view the appropriate reports for the measurement in the following type of windows (as applicable): Text (summary information of measurement) Result (machine illustration of data) Graph (graphical illustration of data) List (tabular representation of data)
F EATURES
Serial communication with Fixturlaser Display Units Drag and Drop for measurement data. Labelling of measurements Zooming of measurement reports. Storage and retrieval of measurement data from Microsoft Access databases Formatting and printing reports Change of reference for some measurement types
REQUIREMENTS
Fixturlaser Documenter will run under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Fixturlaser Documenter requires a serial port (COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4) and optionally a printer port. Copyright 2002 Fixturlaser AB, Mlndal, Sweden All Rights Reserved.
INITIAL SCREEN
Once the Fixturlaser Documenter is executed, a Database Screen is displayed as shown below. The Database Screen has two vertical windows. The one to the left is called the Memory Window and the one to the right the Database Window. Both windows are horizontally as well as vertically scrollable. By default the database file that was last open will be displayed in the Database Window. The database name is appended to the title of the Database Screen.
MEMORY WINDOW
The Memory Window displays the data that has been transferred from the Display Unit. The measurements can be uniquely identified by the measurement ID followed by the date and time when the measurement was recorded. In addition the icon in the beginning helps to identify the type of measurement. The icons used for representing the various types of measurements are listed in the About the Measurements section.
D ATABASE WINDOW
The Database Window displays groups/items and measurements in a tree structure. Various operations can be performed in the Database Window. These are explained in the Working with Databases section.

WORKING
WITH
GROUPS/I TEMS
The Database Window consists of a hierarchical tree that is made up of three different kinds of nodes: Groups, Items, and Measurements. Groups: Groups are provided as structuring components. They are analogous to directories in the Windows Explorer. A group can contain other groups and items. Items: An item represents an object that allows measurements of the same type to be classified together. Items always lie under a group and they can only contain measurement data. An item can be of the following types: Shaft Alignment Horizontal Machines, Shaft Alignment Vertical Machines, Shaft Alignment Cardan Shafts, Straightness Measurement, Machine Train Alignment or Roll Parallelism Measurement. Each item has an icon corresponding to its measurement type. An item can only include measurements of similar measurement type, e.g. a Shaft Alignment Horizontal Machine item can only have Horizontal Shaft Alignment Measurements under it. Measurement data: Measurement data is the stored information from a measurement that is obtained from the Display Unit. The measurement data will be shown when clicking on the desired node. The node for a measurement displays the date and time for the measurement along with the Measurement ID. Note! While adding elements to the Database Window one should remember that: a. A group can have any number of groups under it. b. Each group can have a number of items; items can only be added under groups. c. Each item can only have similar types of measurements under it.
