Cast your worries aside and relax in this delightful landscaped setting. Situated close to where the Waitaki River meets the sea this camp has plenty of shelter from the sea breezes. Ideal for a family holiday with fishing for Dad and a wooden tower and slide for the children and plenty of room to play. Plenty of freezer space and a fish smoker for your catch. In season you can try for whitebait, salmon, trout or ocean fish. There is ample level ground for tenting and 48 power sites. The two clean, renovated kitchens are well appointed; one with dining facilities and satellite TV. The clean single sex ablutions are refurbished and tidy, while the new modern unisex ablutions are complete with a disability suite. The water is treated and purified and has great pressure for your shower (free showers). The laundry also has free automatic machines. Your pets are welcome. This is combination resort complex and Trout sanctuary. The choice of accommodation is varied, with around 113 power sites and numerous tent sites. In the lodge there is a full kitchen, plus bathroom facilities which are available for the campers use. The lounge has a TV and an open fire. The camping area is on two landscaped terraces; some sites have fences and trees. On the upper level there is a kitchen/dining with a stove, microwave and plenty of refrigeration. Your freshly caught trout, or salmon can be stored in a coolroom. To serve the campsites there are two blocks of ablutions and a shub/bath in the ladies. The laundry has automatic equipment and dryer. There is a dump point. Outdoor activities include the use of free canoes, and golf clubs may be hired. Fishing, tramping, jet boating, golf, tennis and bowls are nearby. Joan and Chum Chamberlain are your friendly hosts. All camping is $14 per person. For a golden holiday or as a base to travel the Vanished World Trail, turn-off 200m east of the bridge over the Maerewhenua River on the eastern edge of Duntroon, and look for a signpost to Naseby and Danseys Pass. The camp is 14km further on, snuggled into a valley in the surrounding hills, along the banks of the river. The grounds are well groomed and neatly edged with pine trees. There is a grass tennis court, a basketball net and a playground. On a lower level are some gorgeous riverside sites. The kitchen is well equipped, with an adjacent dining hall. The excellent facilities are modern and clean, with huge shower cubicles. A carpeted and comfy TV room will be welcome on wet days; however when it is fine there is a choice of two swimming holes. An alternative is gold panning (almost at your tent site) or fly fishing, tramping, mountain biking, or fossil hunting. Power sites $18 and Tent sites $16 per person including free use of laundry equipment. Your friendly hosts are Scott and Margie Brown and family. There is a choice of lakes to discover in this central South Island location. Take the lovely drive west along the Waitaki River. At the camp entrance there is a dairy and card phones, with a takeaway food outlet alongside. 50 sites have power and there are 7 sites for tents. The lawned camping ground is dotted with trees to the rear of a large historic lodge. In the region of the Waitaki River the settlement of Duntroon is an unlikely destination, but should you want to stop here, take the track that runs parallel with the school and bridge on the north side of the road, to find this little camp. There is a football field adjacent to the tree-edged grounds with 4 power sites. The main buiding

with automatic machines. Campers can use the lodge facilities, and share the comfortable communal lounge with its open fireplace. There is a drying room here for campers use. The swimming pool is totally enclosed for all-weather use. A great spot for the fishermen. A dump station and Eftpos are on site. Your friendly host is Tara. The level, well-groomed grounds have plenty of shady trees and a lazy meandering stream. There are 94 power sites and 80 for tents. The main amenities are at one end of the extensive grounds. There is a pleasant carpeted, modern TV lounge. Internet is available. An excellent open-plan arrangement houses the kitchen and dining. Fully automatic equipment is found in the adjacent laundry and an outdoor sink. The ablutions are first class, with a wheelchair access family unit. Alternative ablutions are provided when required. In the camp are two childrens playgrounds and a free gas BBQ. A dump site is available. This is New Zealands renowned gliding capital. Lake and stream fishing, BMX track, hot tubs and golf. Laid out in a horseshoe are over 60 sites with a border of trees. Go across the little bridge and enjoy the lovely gardens with a childrens play area next door. This park has 56 power sites. Dual spotless amenities provide two kitchens with full stoves, plus hob cooking and microwaves. Internet services and a pay phone are in the Lounge. The services include full disablity facilities, toilets and a family bathroom, plus automatic laundry equipment. Enjoy the covered BBQ and the new playground with enclosed trampoline. Two dump points available. This camp is close to the town centre and indoor tepid baths. Full booking services to see the little blue penguins and tours are offered. A special treat for motorhome travellers and families, there are many large power sites, each with an en-suite, picnic table, tap and TV aerial connections. The well kept grounds are level and have many attractive shelter trees scattered throughout. A little laundry building has automatic washer, dryer, ironing facilities and vacuum cleaner. Beside the original farm barn is a cosy kitchen with room to relax away from the working area. There are plenty of small appliances, including a microwave. All the facilities are well kept and clean. Across the road is Lake Benmore where there is boat access for campers use and plenty of shore fishing. Not far along the road you can visit the dams - Benmore, Aviemore and Waitaki. The camp is closed at the end of April and opens again mid Sept. Your friendly hosts are Jamie and Pam. All sites $38 for two, $12 each extra. Travel south through Herbert for 3km turn west onto Breakneck Road. Only 1km further and you will find this basic but beautiful camp. The grounds are well groomed and the many camp sites, are on two levels amongst lovely stately trees. Just 5 power sites but easy to find your own secluded spot. The facilities are basic but clean and tidy with shower and toilets, washing machine and a cosy kitchen/dining with hotplates and fridge. A rose garden has been planted in the front of these facilities. A new shower/toilet block is available on the upper level. Scattered around the spacious grounds are woodfired BBQs. Plenty to do here - in the peace and quiet you can listen to the birds, kayak on the river which is safe swimming for the children or go on one of the many walking tracks. This camp is situated on the western side of SHwy 1, 3 kms south of Herbert and is a well established former scouting site. It is newly fenced and has a range of farm animals. Lots of room, just 4 powered sites. The campers kitchen has electric hobs, hot water, fridges and microwave but no dining or lounge area for campers. Ablutions are reminiscent of its prior use with rudimentary cubicles and a communal changing area, although bright new shower curtains and some paint liven things up. Shower taps are at a pre-set temperature. A spa and sauna are available for hire. The river is just past the border of trees and on the far bank is the main trunk line. There are swimming holes for the children, an adventure playground, and a dump site. Your hosts are Kim and Lyn Simpson. Tent sites $14 per person, power $30 for two.

On SHwy 1 turn-off at Maheno towards Kakanui. At the T junction turn right to Kakanui South and the camp is on your left. It has spacious well kept, sheltered grounds with new tree plantings. The ablutions are clean, tiled, unisex and disability friendly ($2 per shower). The kitchen area has gas hobs, fridge/freezer and a TV. Outside is a covered BBQ area. There are swings for the children and make sure you check out the weather station. A laundry is available with auto machines. Some power sites are available. Plenty of room here, park your small tent or your large bus. Entrance to the Penguin sanctuary is free; you can canoe on the river, or stroll to the beach from here. Allan may take you out fishing for Blue Cod for the cost of the petrol. Your friendly hosts are Allan and Chris Jones. $10 per adult, children under 12 years $5. Additional $5 per site for power. A sheltered site close to the northern branch of the Waianakarua River. Native Beech and Podocarp trees surround the site and there is a footbridge across the river. Toilets and water are on tap. You will find a lean-to shelter with BBQ and tables. $7 per person and $3 for children.

Just north of Moeraki at Hampden, this camp has plenty of tent sites and 25 power sites next to a riverside beach. In the busy season additional tent sites across the road are opened. The grounds are pleasant with some shady trees. The kitchen is fully equipped. Internet,fax and TV. A trampoline, outdoor games, bikes and kayak hire for your enjoyment. Nearby is a small childrens playground, tennis court and

a skate park. Try your hand at fishing. An ablution block with toilets and showers, and a separate toilet block are provided. A large disabilty suite is available. This is a pretty camp 3km off SHwy 1, towards the coast. Fishing boats bobbing lazily in the bay, present a picture postcard view. There are a number of camping pockets, many overlooking the bay. Brand new toilets and showers have a disabled suite. The new state-of-the-art kitchen is a joy. There is a TV room available. Take time to inspect the Moeraki Boulders and the nearby seal colony, or visit the Penguin hospital. This may be the place to land that Salmon. There are 27 sites with power plus tent sites. Swiss and German are spoken by your hosts, Walter and Theresa Kiener, and Paul. Camp sites are $27 for two with or without power. Tourist flats, sleep 2-4, $90 for 2 people. Motel units, sleep 2-4, $103 - $125 for 2 people.

Dunback Domain

A pretty domain ground with provision for camping. The toilets are basic and shower cubicles are available to hang your own solar shower in. The adjoining tennis courts and bowling green are appealing and a swimming hole is nearby. Camping is only $2 per person.

A Rail Trail Camp, handy to town, with surrounding trees standing guard. We found pleasant camping with 42 power sites, that have a tap and rubbish bin nearby; these are divided by flowerbeds, and framed with logs. Plenty of flat tenting space. The kitchen has two stoves, fridges, freezers, microwaves and a meal space. There is a pergola-style BBQ for the outdoor cook. A variety of play equipment has been provided for the children. The showers have plentiful hot water. A dump point and car wash are provided and internet access Credit card facilities and online bookings are available. This is a lovely alpine park with campsites hidden in the Larches. There are 48 terraced power sites and innumerable tent sites. You will enjoy the modern kitchen/ living room with a cosy log burner, all amenities including two ovens A secondary kitchen is also available, together with the use of a community freezer. The laundry has two automatic washers and dryers. Roomy ablutions are bright and clean with a disability facility. At the park there is internet access, an adventure playground and a swimming dam. Enjoy a visit to the historic gold-mining town of Naseby. Try your skills at curling during the winter, or take a cycle on the Rail Trail. Your hosts are Matthew and Tracy de Woeps. An hour from Dunedin on Highway 87, this camp has extensive tenting sites plus 20 sites with power. Lots of new baby trees have been planted. An old railway carriage is now a good kitchen with an all weather covered deck outside for alfresco eating with a gas BBQ and tables. Another small outside area is also available for dining. Next to the kitchen is a comfy TV room. The well-appointed service block is centrally situated with a modern clean ablution block, disability suite and laundry. The Otago Central Rail Trail starts or finishes here. Rail Trail arrangements can be booked and train and bus tickets are available. Bikes and rental cars can be hired. On the picturesque Otago Peninsula this parks location is half an hours drive from Dunedin City. Not a large complex, but one that has that personal touch. The power points all have sumps and taps, and tents have their own cosy area, nicely sheltered. In the modern kitchen you will find gas cooking, tables and chairs, and TV. Enjoy a summer evening around the BBQ on the covered bricked terrace, where there is seating for at least 20 people. Excellent ablutions include a good disability suite and a babys bath with hand shower. The laundry has the latest automatic machines, irons and ironing boards. Everything is lovely and clean. A new upper grassed level has been developed for additional tent and power sites. This is a very popular camp; so it may be wise to book. Internet access. The beach adjacent to this camp has smooth white sand. 50 power sites enjoy open flat ground, with unlimited tent sites. The large kitchen has minimal cooking, but plenty of freezer and refrigerator space, internet access and an outside covered dining area. Older facilities are clean and tidy, and include a childrens bath. The laundry boasts 2 auto washers and a dryer. Plenty of space for everyone with a stage out back for musical entertainment. With nature at your back door and the city minutes away, surrounded by tall trees and a gentle stream around two sides, the park has 46 neat level sites with taps. The kitchen is well equipped; the dining hall has comfortable communal tables and chairs. Off this room is a TV annexe and down the hall are the toilets and showers which include a disability suite. The laundry has plenty of automatic machines. There is a dump point and adjacent car wash, and a childrens playground. You can leave your van tethered and use the weekday bus service to the city. Running this camp are Lyn and Terry Mclaren. Tent & Power sites $36 for 2 people, a minimum charge of $22.
