Cast your worries aside and relax in this delightful landscaped setting. Situated close to where the Waitaki River meets the sea this camp has plenty of shelter from the sea breezes. Ideal for a family holiday with fishing for Dad and a wooden tower and slide for the children and plenty of room to play. Plenty of freezer space and a fish smoker for your catch. In season you can try for whitebait, salmon, trout or ocean fish. There is ample level ground for tenting and 48 power sites. The two clean, renovated kitchens are well appointed; one with dining facilities and satellite TV. The clean single sex ablutions are refurbished and tidy, while the new modern unisex ablutions are complete with a disability suite. The water is treated and purified and has great pressure for your shower (free showers). The laundry also has free automatic machines. Your pets are welcome. It is an easy drive to visit the little blue Penguins in Oamaru and visit the heritage area of the town. Eftpos and Credit Card accepted. Your friendly host is Derek. The level, well-groomed grounds have plenty of shady trees and a lazy meandering stream. There are 94 power sites and 80 for tents. The main amenities are at one end of the extensive grounds. There is a pleasant carpeted, modern TV lounge. Internet is available. An excellent open-plan arrangement houses the kitchen and dining. Fully automatic equipment is found in the adjacent laundry and an outdoor sink. The ablutions are first class, with a wheelchair access family unit. Alternative ablutions are provided when required. In the camp are two childrens playgrounds and a free gas BBQ. A dump site is available. This is New Zealands renowned gliding capital. Lake and stream fishing, BMX track, hot tubs and golf. Winter sport is only a short distance away at the Ohau skifield. Your friendly hosts, are Arda and Wim Booiman. All sites from $36 for two.

A special treat for motorhome travellers and families, there are many large power sites, each with an en-suite, picnic table, tap and TV aerial connections. The well kept grounds are level and have many attractive shelter trees scattered throughout. A little laundry building has automatic washer, dryer, ironing facilities and vacuum cleaner. Beside the original farm barn is a cosy kitchen with room to relax away from the working area. There are plenty of small appliances, including a microwave. All the facilities are well kept and clean. Across the road is Lake Benmore where there is boat access for campers use and plenty of shore fishing. Not far along the road you can visit the dams - Benmore, Aviemore and Waitaki. The camp is closed at the end of April and opens again mid Sept. Your friendly hosts are Jamie and Pam. All sites $38 for two, $12 each extra. Children under 5years $1 for each year. 1 Ensuite cabin, sleeps 2 people, $60 per night for 2. 3 cottages and a house, sleeps 2 to 10 people, $75 to $90 per night for 2. $20 for each extra person. On SHwy 1 turn-off at Maheno towards Kakanui. At the T junction turn right to Kakanui South and the camp is on your left. It has spacious well kept, sheltered grounds with new tree plantings. The ablutions are clean, tiled, unisex and disability friendly ($2 per shower). The kitchen area has gas hobs, fridge/freezer and a TV. Outside is a covered BBQ area. There are swings for the children and make sure you check out the weather station. A laundry is available with auto machines. Some power sites are available. Plenty of room here, park your small tent or your large bus. Entrance to the Penguin sanctuary is free; you can canoe on the river, or stroll to the beach from here. Allan may take you out fishing for Blue Cod for the cost of the petrol. Your friendly hosts are Allan and Chris Jones. $10 per adult, children under 12 years $5. Additional $5 per site for power. Your dog is welcome at any time.

Just north of Moeraki at Hampden, this camp has plenty of tent sites and 25 power sites next to a riverside beach. In the busy season additional tent sites across the road are opened. The grounds are pleasant with some shady trees. The kitchen is fully equipped. Internet,fax and TV. A trampoline, outdoor games, bikes and kayak hire for your enjoyment. This is a pretty camp 3km off SHwy 1, towards the coast. Fishing boats bobbing lazily in the bay, present a picture postcard view. There are a number of camping pockets, many overlooking the bay. Brand new toilets and showers have a disabled suite. The new state-of-the-art kitchen is a joy. There is a TV room available. Take time to inspect the Moeraki Boulders and the nearby seal colony, or visit the Penguin hospital. This may be the place to land that Salmon. There are 27 sites with power plus tent sites. Swiss and German are spoken by your hosts, Walter and Theresa Kiener, and Paul. Camp sites are $27 for two with or without power. Tourist flats, sleep 2-4, $90 for 2 people. Motel units, sleep 2-4, $103 - $125 for 2 people.

Dunback Domain
A pretty domain ground with provision for camping. The toilets are basic and shower cubicles are available to hang your own solar shower in. The adjoining tennis courts and bowling green are appealing and a swimming hole is nearby. Camping is only $2 per person.

This is a lovely alpine park with campsites hidden in the Larches. There are 48 terraced power sites and innumerable tent sites. You will enjoy the modern kitchen/ living room with a cosy log burner, all amenities including two ovens A secondary kitchen is also available, together with the use of a community freezer. The laundry has two automatic washers and dryers. Roomy ablutions are bright and clean with a disability facility. At the park there is internet access, an adventure playground and a swimming dam. Enjoy a visit to the historic gold-mining town of Naseby. Try your skills at curling during the winter, or take a cycle on the Rail Trail. Your hosts are Matthew and Tracy de Woeps. All sites are $13 per person. A charge is made for cheques. Eftpos is available. Open all year.

The beach adjacent to this camp has smooth white sand. 50 power sites enjoy open flat ground, with unlimited tent sites. The large kitchen has minimal cooking, but plenty of freezer and refrigerator space, internet access and an outside covered dining area. Older facilities are clean and tidy, and include a childrens bath. The laundry boasts 2 auto washers and a dryer. Plenty of space for everyone with a stage out back for musical entertainment. A short stroll down the road is a small pub, no doubt a welcome sight on a hot day. Your hosts are Stu and Angie. Tent sites, $20 for two. Power sites, $26 for two.
