Lege (law)
The word lege (law) has a distinct importance in every language. In Romanian this word derives from the latin lex, and has a lot of literal and figurate meanings. The first meaning is of a philosophical category that expresses essential, necessary, general, relatively stable and repeatable links between the internal structure of an object or a phenomenon, between different objects and phenomenons or between the different stages of a certain process. Another definition of the word lege describes it as a category which constitutes an expression of independence and interaction between natural phenomenons. This is exemplified as legile naturii or legea conservarii naturii meaning the law of narure. Lege also signifies a binding rule established and enforced by the State power. From this meaning derive many forms and phrases: for example: "lege nescrisa" meaning a tradition or the unwritten law specific to a certain place. Also omul legii means a representative of state authority, a person who religiously follows the legal rules and regulations. The word also means tradition as well as the belief in a divinity, religion or cult. This word appears in many other languages in different forms. Derived in Romanian from the latin forms: lex, legis, lgem, it has basically the same root as the original in all of them: Italian legge, French loi, Catalan lley and Spanish ley. In romanian lege as religion is an old meaning in comparison with the Spanish ley and the French loi which are quite more recent. There are, in Romanian, many words derived from the noun lege. First the verb a legiui(to sentence, to judge, to establish by the law), then the nouns legiuire(legislation, justice, legal decree ) and nelegiuire(injustice, crime, misdeed, outrage ); legiuitor(legislator). Other more recent forms are: legal(legal), nelegal/ilegal(illegal), ilegalitate(crime), legalmente (legally), legitim(legitimate), nelegitim(illegitimate), a legaliza(to legalise). Given its many meanings this word also has a vast variety of synonyms. For example: actiune(action), cauza(cause), condamnare(sentence), cult(cult), datina(custom), dreptate(justice), judecata(judgement), justitie(justice)

osanda(punishment), pedeapsa (punishment), religie(religion), rit(rite), sentinta(verdict), traditie(tradition). An important verb derived from the word lege is a lega meaning to tie up, to knot, to link. A most intriguing verb that has a vast array of senses and is used in many phrases. First and foremost it means to tie something up or to knot; then a lega baierile de la punga which means to save money or to start saving up; also a lega gura la un sac, o punga-to close up a bag, a satchel or a sack by knotting its edges toghater , to pack an object in a material whose edges are then tied up or knotted. Another odd sense is given by the phrase a lega paraua in zece noduri that basically equals to be a cheapskate(translated word for word as: to put money in ten knots); to fixate, to tie something up with a rope, in order to keep it still; to stick the pages of a book toghater and to put a cover on it; to stick, glue, tie up two objects toghater; to link sounds or words toghater in order to speak; to establish a link between two points situated far from each other; to establish a connection between two elements of an device, or between an element an a power source; to start or to establish a relationship; nebun de legat-insane person or someone who pretends to have lost his mental faculties; a lega limba (sau gura) cuiva-to stop someone from speaking; a lega la ochi pe cineva- to swindle something from someone, to betray, to cheat, to deceive, to prey on someone; to prohibit. The word lege is in Romanian and many other languages the definition of order. It stands for justice, peace, respect, moral values and a set of rules that govern our way of living. The significance of this word has its roots in the roman civilization. Far from the barbarians and less advanced races that lived around them the Romans left an inheritance of wisdom and knowledge to their descendants. The peoples they had conquered lived under the rules of the Roman Empire. Our ancestors having also been one of those people have also lived by the Roman law. The word lege and its connotations are the definition of faith, rules and order .
