They are being used in every field as they provide the facility of storing large data safely which can be easily accessed and managed. As computers are being used widely these days, gaining computer education is the need of time. One should be equipped with the basic knowledge of computers, its operations and applications. Both basic and practical knowledge completes the basic computer education. Computers do not act only as storage or processing devices only. They are the biggest sources of education, entertainment and communication as well. It helps in searching and retrieving vast information over internet also and only computer education can increase the applications of computer across the world. Contrast the functions and feature of different types of operating systems: [P3]
An operating system, or OS, is a software program that enables the computer hardware to communicate and operate with the computer software. Without a computer operating system, a computer would be useless. Types of operating system As computers have progressed and developed so have the types of operating systems. Below is a basic list of the different types of operating systems and a few examples of operating systems

that fall into each of the categories. Many computer operating systems will fall into more than one of the below categories. GUI - Short for Graphical User Interface, a GUI Operating System contains graphics and icons and is commonly navigated by using a computer mouse. See our GUI dictionary definition for a complete definition. Below are some examples of GUI Operating Systems. System 7.x Windows 98 Windows CE
Multi-user - A multi-user operating system allows for multiple users to use the same computer at the same time and/or different times. See our multi-user dictionary definition for a complete definition for a complete definition. Below are some examples of multi-user operating systems. Linux Unix Windows 2000
Multiprocessing - An operating system capable of supporting and utilizing more than one computer processor. Below are some examples of multiprocessing operating systems. Linux Unix Windows 2000

Investigate and identify the key components for a computer system for a particular user: [P5]
We are using two kind of compute in our collage. For student and teacher or administrators.
For student:
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor E5400 (2.70GHz, 800FSB, 2MB cache). This processor speed is perfect for our student The speed at which your Inspiron runs applications, loads images and downloads files depends in part on the processor. Bandwidth, clock speed and the number of cores in the processor all help determine performance. As a general rule, a higher number indicates higher performance. Memory: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR3 1066MHz [2x1024] Memory this memory is enough for a student job. Hard Drive: 320GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive. Student needs that kind of HDD some time they put some in lab PC. Graphics Card: Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 Graphics. This graphics card is enough for both IT and the graph design student. Optical Drive : DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD) with DVD Burn software, student need to read and write from CD Or DVD. Operating System: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit English, Windows XP. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit its new operating system thats why Windows XP is installed. Official Software: Microsoft Works 9.0 / English - (Does not include Microsoft Word). Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse: standard.
