CONFIRMED Validation of BA Mass Communication and Media Arts Event held on 15 June 2011 at AKMI Metropolitan College, Thessaloniki

NB: This conclusion is provisional and may be amended or added to following a visit to Thessaloniki by an external panellist. 1.1 Outcome The Programme was validated for a period of five years commencing in October 2011, subject to satisfactory completion of the conditions below, and subject to any changes agreed through the review of the parent programme in 2011-12. 1.2 1.2.1 Conditions That the Team provide a list of all books, journals, DVDs or other electronic resources that will be made available to support the Programme in time for the commencement date. That the Team amend the documentation to address the following points: To ensure all key information relating to programme management and quality assurance is included in the programme document; To clarify the team structures at Athens and Thessaloniki and how they will work together to maintain an overview of the quality of the programme; To clarify the admissions criteria and procedure for applicants from various backgrounds, setting out the process for Recognition of Prior Learning; To ensure information is up to date and reflects current QMU regulations and processes; To rectify minor errors as noted by the Panel.

The above conditions are to be met by 31 July 2011.

Recommendations That programme teams at both Athens and Thessaloniki liaise with QMU to review the content and main texts in module descriptors to ensure they reflect current developments in the field. That the Team give further consideration to the role of the Internship module within the programme and how the learning objectives relate to the assessment pattern. That the programme planning team undertaking review of the parent programme consider: Inclusion of formative assessment within module descriptors (and reduction of summative assessment accordingly) Closer alignment of module learning outcomes with SCQF Level 9 Whether the existing structure of the modules Digital Film-making 1 and 2 and New Technologies on the Set and in Post-production 1 and 2 is the most effective.

Commendations The Panel commended the Team on the following matters:

The effective blend of theory and practice within the programme. The evidence of clear planning to meet the needs of students progressing from the IVT diploma. AKMIs commitment to staff development.

The definitive document only needs to describe the programme factually and doesnt need much detail on why the programme is being developed.
