SAFETY & HEALTH INSPECTION SERVICES AT WORKPLACES AS A PRIVATE PROVIDERS FOR OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH AUTHORITY (OSHA) CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO BE EMPLOYED UNDER CONTRACT BASIS (PRIVATE INSPECTORS) The Occupational Safety and Health Authority is the sole government agency charged with the responsibility of ensuring that acceptable minimum standards of health and safety of workers are maintained at workplaces. OSHA operates in Tanzania mainland and has its offices in five zones namely the Northen zone (Arusha), the lake zone (Mwanza), southern highlands (Mbeya), central zone (Dodoma) coast zone (Dar es salaam) and Southern zone (Mtwara) Amongst its core function, though specialized OHS inspectors, OSHA conducts statutory inspections to oversee the implementation of the OHS Act no: 5 of 2003. For this purpose OSHA is hereby looking for competent individuals to express their interest on the following jobs; 1.0 Electrical Inspectors 1.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills

The Candidates(s) should possess a university degree or a diploma in electrical engineering or FTC or equivalent qualifications from recognized institution, a three years practical experience in electrical engineering and being computer skills is an added advantage. The Individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for execution of the service applied for i.e. earth ground clamp meters, multimeters, ground resistance tester, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing. 1.2 Duties and Responsibilities The role of the candidate is to conduct General Health and Safety inspections, Electrical Safety Inspection (include; polarity test, Insulation test, Earth continuity test and Electro-magnetic Field (EMF) measurement at workplaces, Preparing inspection reports and compiling monthly, quarterly and annual reports of inspections. To conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been implemented.

2.0

Plant Inspectors 2.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills The Candidates(s) should possess a university degree or a diploma in Mechanical engineering or FTC or related qualifications from a recognized institution, a three years practical experience in mechanical engineering and being computer skills is an added advantage. The Individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for the service applied for, ie hydraulic pump, thickness gauge meter, skidders pressure gauge, NDT test kit, test bags, tappet clearance, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing.

2.2 Duties and Responsibilities. The role of the candidate is to conduct General Health and Safety inspections, Plant Safety Inspection at workplaces (include; pressure vessels, air receivers, steam receivers, lifting equipment i.e cranes, chain blocks, conveyors etc), Preparing inspection reports ,compiling monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as keeping records of inspections. To conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been implemented.

Industrial Hygiene Inspector 3.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills Bachelor Degree in Environmental Health Sciences or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution, The Individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for execution of the service applied for ie sound level meter, dust pumps, lux meter etc, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing. 3.2 Duties and Responsibilities Carry out general work place inspections and environment measurements (heat/cold stress, noise, light, dust, gases, fumes, aerosol, mist, vapour, radiation, indoor air quality, ventilation, efficiency etc.) Prepare inspection reports, and compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as keeping records of inspections. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been implemented.

Building and Construction Inspectors 4.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills Bachelor of science (Bsc) degree in Civil Engineering or diploma or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution, and three years experience in civil/building works in a reputable organization. The Individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for execution of the service applied for, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing. 4.2 Duties and Responsibilities Carry out work place inspections both general and civil works related scrutinize of drawing, Prepare inspection reports and compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as keeping records of inspections. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been implemented. 5.0 Medical Officer Inspectors 5.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution, and three years experience in health and safety related activities from a reputable organization. The Individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for execution of the service applied for i.e vision tester, audiometer, spirometer, blood pressure machines, weighing scale etc, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing. 5.2 Duties and Responsibilities Carry out work place inspections both walkthrough inspections and medical examination, Prepare medical examination reports and compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as keeping records of inspections and medical examinations. Conduct follow-up inspections to ensure corrective measures have been implemented.

Nursing officer/Assistant Nursing inspector 6.1 Qualifications, Experience and skills Bachelor Degree in Nursing, Advanced diploma or diploma from a recognized Institution, and three years experience in health and safety related activities from a reputable organization. The individual should also possess/own basic technical equipment required for execution of the service applied. 6.2 Duties and Responsibilities

Take part in occupational health related programmes,carrying out of statutory medical examination (Preemployment, periodic, exit and special medical examination). Participate in risk assessments and general inspections at workplaces and identify work conditions that contribute to the overall ill health of workers and suggest improvement measure by finding root causes and removing. i.e vision tester, audiometer, spirometer, blood pressure machines, weighing scale etc, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPEs) as well as computer and printer for timely report writing. 7.0 Remuneration An individual shall be paid on a commission based on the fees collected in the course of performing inspections at the rate agreed at that particular time. 8.0 Important note This announcement will be valid from 1st September 2013 to 30th June 2014.
