2 years after the treaty of peace with spain, a joint tock company called the Virginia Company of London

asked the king for a charter to settle in the new world. This had put pressure onto the colonist who were unfortunate because if they hadnt make profits to the joint stock company, they were threatened to be abandoned in the wilderness. !hen the Company set sail to the new world, the nati"e #merican idians attacked them and they had to chose a location that was infested with mos$uitos and caused a great harm the the health of the new settlers. %ooner, the place was named &amestown. Though for the first few years, &amestown was in great trouble because the settlers usually get sick through diseases, malnutrition and didnt ha"e enough food through the e'pedition so they also died by star"ation. #nother problem was the settlers wasted a lot of time trying to find gold that didnt e'ist. There were conflict between the (nglishmen and the )ndians. (specially with the tribe called *owhatan. The new settlers were so focused into finding gold that most mean were desperate to find food once it was too late. )n desperation they raided the )ndians and that caused the tension between them and the settlers. *roblems grew worst when Lord de la war arri"ed and used irish tactics to raid the )ndians and caused a war called the +first #nglo *owhatan war,. The indian once again tries to get rid of the new settlers in the +second anglo powhatan war, but they failed to do so. The peace treaty of -./. called for the Virginia society and the )ndians to coe'ist but that only banished the Chesapeake )ndians from their lands and separate the )ndians from the while areas. !hat sa"ed &amestown from all of these problems was the perfected methods to grow tobacco from john rolfe. The tobacco rush swept o"er &amestown and soon e"eryone tries to plant the weed in streets and gra"es. Colonist who once hungered for food now is seeking land in order to grow tobacco. Though when planted greedily, it ruins the soil. #s time grew, 0ing james distrusted Virginia, he hated tobacco and he put Virginia directly under his control.

The moti"ation to coloni1e in #merica started with the leadership and funding of 2ueen (li1abeth ). Though, the start of coloni1ation didnt go smoothly. The first attempt to coloni1e was at the bleak coast of 3ewfoundland. )t collapsed with %ir 4umphrey 5ilbert lost his life at sea. The second attempt at 3orth Carolinas 6oanoke )sland also failed when the colony "anished and was swallowed by the wilderness. These failures embarrassed the (nglish. #nother great problem was the %panish #rmanda, though the (nglish bra"ely fought back and defeated the %panish. This was another moti"ation to the coloni1ation of the new world. *atriotism spread throughout (ngland and after the treaty of peace with %pain, moti"ations to coloni1e in the new world increased. The primogeniture7 law that states 8 only the eldest son are able to inherit the landed estates9 also moti"ated younger sons to find their fortune elsewhere. Lastly, the joint stock company got a considerable number of in"estors and pro"ided the financial means for coloni1ation in The new world. :aryland had less of a religious freedom because of the act of toleration. )t states that all Christians can practice their religion but the jews and atheist were to ha"e a death penalty. )n Carolina, rice was a major crop. Though (ngland didnt send any rice seeds, the Carolinians were soon paying premium prices for the #frican sla"es because rice grows in #frica. 3orth Carolinas were "ery snobby and the difference between the north and the south was a great difference. 5eorgia ser"ed as a buffer to protect the Carolinas from the spanish in florida and the ;rench in Louisiana
