STAND AND DELIVER First of all, the role of a teacher is a really hard job, teachers have a big responsibility

because they shape behaviors, they change minds, they transmit knowledge, and also they are a model for students; students have to see their teacher as an example to follow in order to be as successful as their teachers are. It is harder when there are students with a rough attitude and a bad behavior, but a good teacher is not influenced by those students and he or she does not get comfortable with those kind of behaviors, but try to make a change and try to be a model for those students until he or she achieve the goal of shaping their attitude, and mind. It is important to understand what the role of a real teacher is, and how a real and a good teacher built up his/her own methodology, and strategies to take the challenge to make a different on them. Stand and deliver is a movie that give a good example of a person that perform a great role of being a good teacher, the kind of teacher that students need in their classroom. It is very interesting how he try to make that the students get into the learning process from the beginning, He used a methodology in which he tried to relate real object with the things that he wanted them to understand. Motivations in one of the most important factors in the teaching word, Mr. Escalante motivate his students to learn better by presenting the material to them in a different way. Instead of reading the material to his students, he would find a way to make it easily understood or find a way to make it relate to things in their lives. One example of how he presented the material to them in a way so that they could understand easier was when he brought apples for everyone and cut certain sized slices out of the apples. Since the students were learning about fractions, he asked them how much was missing from each of their apples. Instead of reading to them about fractions, he brought in visual aids to help them see and feel what they were learning about, so they got a meaningful learning instead of a systematic one.

This also clearly shows that the teacher apply the participatory approach because everything that he teach is relevant for the students, so all of them are part of the process in almost in the same level. The comprehension approach also plays an important role because he tried to covey students to understand things instead of memorize everything, the most important thing is to understand before doing any action. He also focuses on Pavlov and Skinners theory, he gave stimulus to them in order to receive a response from them, and also he had to push them in order to make them change their attitude, sometimes it is necessary to give negative stimulus to get a positive response, and that was exactly what Mr. Escalante did. He considers that teaching is an art, which is true; he shows that a teacher has to be a motivator; every teacher has to be the guide for students. He is not considered as a traditional teacher because he tries to innovate, working with different tools and try to make them to get into the real learning process. He applied the audio-lingual method and used repetition drill technique in order to make his students memorize what he put on the dark board; he uses this technique because through repeating consecutively as many times as possible they hardly would forget what they learn. Each teaching part of the movie shows a different type of used technique but with the same characteristic which is the motivation. He also guided them to the process of learning by doing, and experimenting things that would make process more effective. Those are the things that are involved in the way that Mr. Escalante taught to his students; he used a series of strategies, methods, and techniques in order to make a change on those students with a negative behavior, and at the end he got it due to his authentic and interesting teaching style; he caught his students attention by applying different ways to teach to make them learn in somehow.
