Faithfijl Friends through the years, who have encouraged and prayed for us, is the secret

of much of the continual progress.

We call them the true "Beautiful People."

Emory Rauch, an elder, and his wife, Josie, were friends in Vaughn, OR, where Julius

ministered from 19^5-19^7 They have continued faithful giving through the years. We attended their 60th wedding anniversary celebration in March.
Mabel Reed was one of Julius' mather's closest friends. She has given a monthly check
to our work since 1950j never missing a single month. Aunt Mabel is a member of a Baptist Church and a giver to missions around the world. Her faithful friendship and care encourages us I Fern and Ijvle Harris were on the Mission Committee of the old Figueroa Christian Church

(now sold to a black congregation) when Virginia and Julius were sent to Japan in 1950.
Shortly after that they moved away from los Angeles. They have never missed a single month of sending a check to support the work in Japan.
To these - and our other faithful supporters - we want to express our thanks for

''^iol"diii"g~Tip"'oT3i^hands"".

Our oldest living link CHurch'has been the First Christian

Church of Michigan City, Indiana, which began their support in 1950- Central Chris tian Church of Portland, Oregon, has supported the work since 1955 as has Court St. of SaJLem, Oregon, and the Stayton, Oregon church. The Warsaw and Hannegan Churches in Indiana added their giving as has the Elm St. Church, Moweaqua, and Newton Churches in Illinois. For 10 years the Southeast Church of Salt Lake City, Utah, has taken up needed support and the Del Amo Church and Lockhaven Church of California have become

regular givers. We feel thankful for these and other individuals and church groups which have helped.

The picture to the right is of lorraine Jobst, a childhood friend of Virginia's since the
time when they were in the Primary Dept. at Figureroa Christian Church. She is Thelma Littrell's sister and has done much secretarial work on the mailing labels for the newsletter. For years she has sent food boxes to Japan. Thank you, Lorraine.

CONTBTOE TQ PRAY FOR RECRUITS TO JAPAM

In 1973 when we returned to the field we asked for prayer for 100 missionary recruits for Japan. Since that time missionary children and their wives going to Japan as mis

sionaries number ih in the Christian churches.

There are 7 other missionary children

in preparation. These already know the Japanese language and are adapted to the culture Beyond that there have been six new missionaries who have entered the field in Japan. Continue praying for 100 new missionaries and 100 Japanese workers for evangelism.

Grace Farnham, Veteran Mis sionary to Japan was respon sible for recruiting the Fleenors for Japan and helped provide housing for them the first year in Japan and intro duced them to many people who opened doors for their mini stry through the years. Grace

The very doors of Japan were

opened in 18^+9 after years of

GORDON HAHN with wife Donna and children David & Debbie

(President of the Nishi

Arai Foiindation and

Fleenor Mission Support Group

In 1962 a group of Christians of various Christian Churches formed a group called the
Fleenor Support Group to make up needed support for the Fleenors to return to Japan. The Lockhaven Christian Church kindly offered to foi^ard funds. This group of Chris

tian friends still functions with a yearly Christmas meeting and giving through Lockhaven or their churches.

It was the officers of this Grout) of Supporters who sent a letter asking for funds for

the Fleenor furlough and medical expenses in May, 1978

Again in February 1979 a letter went out under the signatures of Gordon Hahn - Lee Clarke and Thelma Littrell . These three people have generously donated of their funds and time to help the work in Japan and to this F.F.F.F.F appeal.
Gordon Hahn of the Del Amo Christian Church formed the Nishi Arai Christian Foundation

after a visit to Japan in 1957*

He felt inspired to help world-wide missions after

seeing missions in action firsthand. This Fount^tion purchased land and built one church building in a slum area of Nishi Arai in Japan where the Fleenors were working. Since then this Foundation has helped several projects in Japan besides missionaries, and native Christians all over the world with over $500,000 worth of mission donations.

Thelma Littrell, a friend of 40 years standing, is treasurer of the Fleenor Support

Group and member at lockhaven Christian Church. She has for the past ^4- years taken over all the printing and mailing work for the newsletters from Lockhaven in Lds Angeles.

Lee Clarke, Secretary of the Group has been another prayer warrior - giving generously to the work for 25 years and opening her home to the Fleenors as the "Clarke-Hilton" whenever we are in the los Angeles area, and time and again Lee has helped the work.
She was the Missions Chairman of the former Crenshaw Christian Church.

MISSIONARY SERVICE J. Fleenors

c/o Irene Grice 715 14th Street. S.E. Rochester, MN 55901

*** JAPAN ***

Dear Faithful Friends:

'"'"uly 19 "vre arrived at Tokyo Narita Airport, having flo^wn from Los Angeles in l6 hours. It tock us Y hours to drive through Tokyo traffic to our Mission Home in Sayama, a trip vhich
should take two hours. We were given a great welcome on Sunday by the Sayama Church and after receiving callers all day took off for Karuizawa to the Camp to prepare it for the

first campe on July 21st. Daughter Julia and husband and John and Joe had gone the day before to open up and clean the main rooms. So, two days after arrival we were caught up in four weeks of summer camp and street and village evangelism, selling Bibles and litera
ture and giving out thousands of pamphlets to the summer visitors of Karuizawa. T^wo replies came back requesting to enter the Bible correspondence course. There were IT chil

dren in camp who had never heard the gospel before who attended camps and came away with a knowledge of the CREATOR GOD and Jesus Christ His Son through teaching, songs, prayer and Life of Christ films and Moody Science films shown each night. Two of the camps were essen
tially English camps, but we always teach Bible in various ways.

During the family camp the greatest joy came to us when one mother accepted Christ by con fession of faith. The year before her high school aged daughter accepted Christ and was baptized at our Spring Camp. Last week at the baptismal service, the father of the family came and played his trumpet to celebrate the baptism of his wife. His parents are Chris tians but he has not yet made his decision for Christ. During a serious illness last year he prayed to Jesus Christ to spare his life and since then has been drawing nearer to Christ
as his. health has been restored. PRAY THIS ENTIRE FAMILY BE ONE IN CHRIST.
GIVE THANKS 11! REJOICE WITH US I

The Sayama Church has been growing in our absence under the ministry of Stephen and Carol

(our son and daughter-in-law).

There are new Christians and the older Christians are

stronger. The Bill Turner family live nearby and tock over completely in June and July all the classes that Steve and Carol had taught. Together with the Japanese Church all the ser vices and classes were taught. Now new classes have opened in English and Bible in the
church and neighborhood and the Turners and Julius and Virginia divide these classes. keeps us all busy meeting the demands for English and Bible classes. level for the Christians who want to get deeper into God's word.

on Wednesday nights. Then some of these shall eat out and come from 2:00 to 4:00 for the Bible Study in Depth Course.

Our son John brought 6 young men he met playing ball in the park to study(each Wednesday8:00 to 10:00 p.m.) English and Bible from Julius. Thus God is bringing people to learn.
The night education group of Sayama City has asked Vlrginig to teach 25 to 30 young adults English. We shall do this for three months and invite thera to the Church for English and
