Welcome to the 19th issue of Devil Comics Magazine where we will be exploring the comics which will be released in the New Year 2014. The New York Comic Con exploded with news from various publishers showing off their plans to attract new readers and entertain their existing customer base. In 2013 DC Comics celebrated the 75th Anniversary of Superman with the Man of Steel film. 2014 is the 75th Anniversary of Batman which begins with an oversized issue of Detective Comics #27. DC Comics is killing off the clone of Superman and replacing him with the future child of Lois and Clark from an alternative universe respectfully named Jon Lane Kent. Marvel Comics is launching their All-New Marvel Now! initiative and stealing shelf space by bombarding the market with must-have titles. However their main attraction is the release of the Miracleman reprints as well as the conclusion of his story with Neil Gaiman. Other publishers announcements include Dark Horse Comics bringing the Engineers from Prometheus into the Aliens universe, Archie Comics begins Farewell, Betty and Veronica, IDW is bringing the ongoing series of Transformers/G.I. Joe, and the Gold Key characters get a fourth chance after Valiant and Dark Horse with Dynamite Entertainment. 2014 is also rich with comic-related films including Transformers: Age of Extinction, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Godzilla. 2014 is an exciting year as digital and creator-owned projects are beginning to take shape. Keep connected on the latest comic news on our Facebook page: Devil Comics Entertainment, Twitter @devilcomics, and our store DevilComics.com. Happy Thanksgiving! Shamim Zia Editor

NOVEMBER COMIC MILESTONES

2000 2001
Writer Mark Waid collaborated with artists Bryan Hitch and Paul Neary on JLA: Heaven's Ladder. Marvel begins its adult imprint MAX with Alias by Brian Michael Bendis. MAX is an imprint of Marvel Comics aimed at an "adults only" audience, launched in 2001 after Marvel broke with the Comics Code Authority and established its own rating system. Max titles are unique among Marvel's output in that they are free to feature explicit content similar to that of an R-rated movie. The MAX imprint is not Marvel's first effort in pushing the boundaries of content in their titles. The company's Epic Comics imprint in the 1980s and early 1990s often featured sexual themes heavily. However, the Max imprint is the first time Marvel has specifically produced comics intended for an older audience. However Stan Lee openly criticized the MAX imprint line saying, "I don't know why they're doing that. I don't think that I would do those kinds of stories."

2007

The ideas for "One More Day" began to develop almost two years before its release, at one of Marvel's creative summits for creators and editors. Following One More Day, the Amazing Spider-Man became the sole Spider-Man title which was published three times a month. The explanation for the erase of the marriage was explained in One Moment in Time in 2010.

2008

Secret Invasion comes to an end with its final issue leading to Dark Reign where the villains like Loki and Doctor Doom form a Cabal led by Norman Osborn. Ultimate Comics launches Ultimatum which kills off several key characters including Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine.

2009 Superman: Secret Origin was another retelling of Superman who

was under the direction of Geoff Johns. The story featured the "definitive" origin of Superman for the modern, Post-Infinite Crisis DC Universe continuity, starting with Clark Kent in his pre-teens as Superboy. The story replaced Mark Waids 2004 Superman: Birthright released one year before Infinite Crisis. The final issue of Captain America: Reborn is released and brings back Steve Rogers following his assassination after Civil War in 2007. FrankenCastle begins following Dark Reign: The List - Punisher where the Frank Castle was targeted by Norman Osborn who sent the Dark Wolverine to dismember and kill the Punisher.

2003

Neil Gaiman premiered Marvel 1602 where the Marvel Universe existed in the 17th Century on Earth-311. The profits of the series went to help fund his Marvels and Miracles LLC company, which is fighting for the rights to Marvelman. NYX a seven issue limited series between 2003 and 2005 written by then Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada introduced X-23, who was the female clone of Wolverine. NYX stands for District X, New York City.

2010

2007

Following Civil War, J. Michael Straczynski and Joe Quesada brought Spider-Man: One More Day told the SpiderMan sacrificing his marriage to save Aunt May. Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada felt dissolving the Peter Parker and Mary Jane marriage and returning Spider-Man to his roots was necessary to preserve the longevity of the character for the next 20 or 30 years.

Batman, Incorporated #1 premiered following Batman's return from the past after Final Crisis where he was stranded in the distant past and believed dead, Bruce Wayne has returned to the present day DC Universe. Marvel Comics Ultimate Universe reaches a milestone with Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #150.

NOVEMBER COMIC MILESTONES

2011 DC Comics continues with the second issues of the New 52. Marvel
Comics brings the aftermath of their Fear Itself with Battle Scars which introduces Marcus Johnson who is secretly Nick Fury, Jr. Jonathan Hickman brings Johnny Storm back from the dead after killing him a year before in Fantastic Four #600. The year was replaced with twelve issues of FF (Future Foundation, First Family) to replace the Fantastic Four title. The X-Men books broke off into Uncanny X-Men #1 and Wolverine and the X-Men following X-Men: Schism.

2012 DC Comics were wrestling with three different events within three
different character franchises. H'El on Earth in Superman, Death of the Family in Batman, and Rise of the Third Army in Green Lantern took much of attention in the DC Universe. Following DC Comics, Marvel premiered with their Marvel NOW! line with free digital copies as most of their line were relaunched with new number ones including Indestructible Hulk, All-New X-Men, and Iron Man. The Ultimate line brought their books together with United We Stand where Captain America is now the President.

2013

DC Comics continues with their mini-events including Batman's Zero Year and Superman's Krypton Returns along side their companywide crossover title Forever Evil. Marvel Comics brings Infinity to a close while beginning Inhumanity. Much like the Mutants which represented the African Americans in the 1960s, the Inhumans brings another layer of diversity representing sexuality. Marvel is also celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the X-Men with a new title called Amazing X-Men which was one of the titles during the 1995 Age of the Apocalypse event. Following the Age of Ultron, the space-time continuum is broken and Galactus is sent to the Ultimate Universe leading to the universe-wide event bringing the Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales, and the Ultimate X-Men together in Cataclysm.

SPOILERS AHEAD The Dark World begins with the introduction of Malekith the leader of the Dark Elves. Malekith wanted to use a weapon called the Aether to return the universe back to its original state of darkness. (Similar to what Nekron wanted to do in DC Comics Blackest Night) However Malekith is ultimately defeated by Odins father Bor and the Aether in buried. In the present, Jane Foster accidently discovers the dimension where the Aether is buried and is consumed by it. She returns to the present where Thor is waiting. Thor takes Jane back to Asgard to remove the Aether from her. Malekith comes to Asgard and lays waste by trying to take the Aether however manages to kill Thor and Lokis mother before escaping. Thor and Loki unite to take on Malekith who extracts the Aether from Jane and embeds it into himself. Loki is killed however secretly disguises himself as an Asgard soldier and replaces Odin as the Lord of Asgard. Ultimately Thor defeats Malekith over London and returns back to Asgard. The film has a cameo of Chris Evans as Captain America, a post-credit scene concerning the Collector leading to next years Guardians of the Galaxy, and a final scene where Thor and Jane Foster are reunited. The Dark World will lead into another film where Thor discovers Loki took over Asgard pretending to be his father and what has happened to Odin. The story of Thor: The Dark World was good however it felt like half the story was told as it leads into other Marvel films including the Avengers taking on Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers 3.
