Directions for Q 31 to Q 34: Read the passage carefully and answer questions based on it. Multiple
choice
In a stunt bike ride, a biker has to go around in
a enclosed spherical cage which is an extreme adventure.
The biker goes around a spherical surface from the
interior performing stunts and daredevil acts without
toppling or slipping. In a stunt called as a vertical hoop he
starts from the bottom of the sphere and completes a
vertical circle without falling down or losing contact. In
another stunt, in which the biker goes around in a circle
but horizontally. He gradually increases the speed and
thus the radius of his path and then maintains it at a
constant level. The biker along with his bike has mass m.
The radius of sphere is R. There is friction present
between biker and the surface s1. Air drag is negligible.
You can consider the biker with his bike as a point mass
and neglect toppling effects. The maximum speed of his
bike is 3v(gR). The work done against friction in any
direction for one circular loop is 4mgR and it is proportional
to the distance covered.

Q 31. For his vertical hoop stunt the minimum speed with which he should start at the bottom assuming he
turns of the accelerator after the start is
(a) v(5gR)
(b) 2v(2gR)
(c) 3v(gR)
(d) v(7gR)
(e) None of these

Q 32. Which of the following is/are true
(a) The biker with his given speed performance can do a vertical hoop stunt
(b) If he goes in a vertical circle then the limiting frictional force reduces
(c) The minimum speed at topmost point for him to not lose contact anywhere during the stunt is
v(gR)
(d) If he starts at the maximum speed and doesn't accelerate thereafter the speed when he returns
is 0

Q 33. If the biker does the vertical stunt with the speed as of the answer of Q.31 and he doesn't accelerate
after bottom most point, then when he returns back his speed is
(a) v(gR)
(b) v(2gR)
(c) v(gR/2)
(d) 0

Q 34. For the horizontal circular stunt, assuming he can now tweak his bike performance to improve speed
to a great extent and there is no friction in direction of motion but there is friction to prevent slipping as
mentioned in passage. Then the angle which he should make with the vertical such that he can
complete horizontal loop with maximum speed is
(a) 37
(b) 45
(c) 53
(d) 90
(e) None of these
