This training package is geared specifically to the 61HDX98B HDTV. However, most of the material will cross over to the 60SDX88B progressive scan HDTV capable set. The necessary understanding that the 60SDX88B requires a Set-Top-Box to receive SDTV and HDTV signals is important. The 60SDX88B does NOT have a DM-1 module. This module is built into the 61HDX98B which allows this set to receive all ATSC formats as well as Direct TV, NTSC, SDTV or HDTV. It does not have Component Inputs. The 60SDX88B has a built in FLEX converter that translates any input into either 480P for NTSC or SDTV and/or 1080I for HDTV. It does have Component Inputs.
The Power Supplies are the same for either set. The Deflection circuit is very similar between the two sets. The Signal PWB is very similar between the two sets, minus the differences mentioned above. Digital Convergence is the same between the two sets. 61HDX98B is a DP-85 chassis with a 16X9 aspect screen. 60SDX88B is a DP-86 chassis with a 3X4 aspect screen. SEE DP-86 TRAINING SECTION IN THE BACK OF THE PACKAGE.

DIGITAL CONVERGENCE OVERLAY AND MAGIC FOCUS 4 MODES TO DISPLAY A (4x3) IMAGE ON (16X9) DISPLAY
1
NORMAL MODE (4x3)
Normal Mode 4X3 with Black Mask (Liner) DIGITAL CONVERGENCE ALIGNMENT When performing a complete Digital Convergence Alignment, it is necessary to utilize an Overlay. The 61HDX98B will require 2 (two) different overlays. One overlay will be utilized for any of the following: 1.) Normal mode 2.) Full mode 3.) Fill mode And a different overlay will be utilized for: 4.) Smooth Wide Mode After completion of Digital Convergence Alignment, Memory Store must be performed. After Memory Store, Sensor Initialization must be performed as well. Sensor Initialization must be performed after the Digital Convergence alignment data is STORED for any one of the following modes: 1.) Normal mode 2.) Full mode 3.) Fill mode Also, Sensor Initialization must be performed after the Digital Convergence alignment data is STORED for the following 4.) Smooth Wide Mode mode
MAGIC FOCUS (AUTO DIGITAL CONVERGENCE) Customer's function When the customer presses the magic focus button, it will be necessary for them to perform Magic Focus in similar fashion. Pressing Magic Focus will correct any one of the following Modes: 1.) Normal mode 2.) Full mode 3.) Fill mode Magic Focus must also be pressed for: 4.) Smooth Wide Mode mode
Liner
Stretched Stretched Smooth Wide Mode 4X3 Center (Liner) Outside edges Stretched to fit (NonLiner)
Deflection Circuit remains at 23.75KHz for all modes, even HDTV 16X9. (Labeled in schematic as 2.14H)

1) If no Smart Card is in the unit and "SAT" is selected from remote or front panel, the unit will display: "Please insert your access card." As soon as the card is inserted, the unit will recognize the card immediately. 2) By entering "Guide" the channels available by satellite provider will be seen. All cards should give access to all Direct TV promo channels (Previews and services). 3) If the Smart Card is inserted backwards or on the wrong side, the unit will display: "Please insert a valid access card." 4) If the Smart Card was pulled out of DM-1 module while unit was on, according to the Smart Card and the access level customer is authorized to receive, unit will go back to last channel selected on that specific card. In other words, if the selected channel was 300 (Direct TV promo) and the Smart Card is taken out or switched, the set will go to same channel 300 on the new card.
5) If channel 500 (5.1 Dolby Digital promo) was selected on a card that has access to it, and a different Smart Card is inserted that doesn't have access to this channel, the unit will display: "To start service, please call customer service, ext. 711" Or it may display: "You have inserted the wrong card. Please insert the proper access card. 6) If there is no satellite signal available for whatever reason, the unit will display: " Searching for satellite signal. Please stand by". This window will last 4 minutes on screen and it will go away. This is an indication that there in not signal available. If unit is given a good strong satellite signal, unit will display channels immediately. Just access "Guide" to see what is available".
