TRIGONOMETRY

Name: ___________________________________ Period: _________ Unit 3: Piecewise and Inverse Functions Piecewise Art Project

You will create your own picture using equations youve learned during Trigonometry and Algebra 2 (yes, you will need to recall your previous skills). This project can be done individually, or in groups of two or three (of your choice). However, be aware that groups will have to complete more requirements than individuals. Requirements: Your project must contain: 1. The picture must be recognizable! As in, we all must be on the same page and know what you are drawing be creative and original! Once you have drawn your required functions, you may add additional touches to make your final product more distinguishable. 2. The picture must include a minimum of 8 equations for the individual; a minimum of 15 equations for groups of 2; and 21 equations for a group of three. Each equation will correspond to a part of the final drawing (you will need to restrict domains/ranges thus, include these in your equations). 3. There are several required functions that must be found in your piecewise art: - Absolute Value - Horizontal / Vertical Lines - Linear - Polynomials of degree ! 3 - Radicals - Conic Sections - Rationals - Greatest Integer [For Individuals 1 of each; For groups of 2 2 of each (except for one); For groups of 3 3 of each (except for two)] 4. Use colored pencils/markers to identify which part goes with which function. Warning: Make sure that you practice before diving into your final product! Heres a practice graph for you to get started on! What are you going to make an image of?

Grading: You will be graded according to the following!rubric:

Category
Accuracy

16 14 There are no errors. All equations match the parts that are graphed. 6 5 Individuals use at least 8 equations, pairs use 15, and threes use 21. 8 7 Uses the correct number of each equation. (depending upon group size) 4 Equations and line segments are matched by color. 6 5 Picture is an easily identified object.

12 9 Two or three equations dont match their graphs, 3 6 for pairs, 4 8 for threes 4 3 Individuals use 6 equations, pairs use 12-14, and threes use 16-20 6 5 1 - 2 required equation is missing. (depending upon group size - multiplier) 0 Color coding is not used. 4 3 Picture is identified only by looking at its title.

8 5 4 - 6 equations do not match their graphs, 7 11 for pairs, 9 15 for threes. 2 1 Individuals use 4 equations, pairs use 8 - 11, and threes use 10-15. 4 3 3 - 4 required equations are missing. (depending upon group size - multiplier) 0

Number of Equations

Types of equations

3 1 7 or more equations do not match their graphs, 11 or more for pairs16 or more for threes. 0 Individuals use less than 4, pairs less than 8, threes less than 10. 2 1 5 - 6 required equations are missing. (depending upon group size - multiplier) 0

Picture

2 1 Picture is overly simple such as a square or other geometric shape.

0 Graphs do not form a recognizable shape or picture.
