The International Academic Magnet @ Irmo Middle School

Professional Development Overview for Thursday, November 14, 2013 Learning Target: I can engage in collaborative planning and create CFAs and SmartGoals, and select instructional strategies to maximize the performance of learners in order to continue implementing the data teams process with fidelity. *Learning Target: I can engage in collaborative professional development with Sarah Boddy, the EL school designer, in order to deepen my learning of Expeditionary Learning protocols and instructional practices.
*Specific learning targets for each EL workshop will be provided by Sarah Boddy, the session facilitator.

Narrative Overview: Using professional development monies allocated in the Project ACCESS grant to pay for the cost of substitutes, this day will provide teachers with an opportunity to deeply engage in the data teams process and extend their understanding of Expeditionary Learning protocols for teaching and learning. Specifically, four separate groups of teachers will participate in a professional experience aligned with data teaming and EL. These teachers have been selected based on their expressed need for additional deep dive collaborative planning, as well as their understanding of EL. Thus, this differentiated model of professional development will address the specific needs of four separate groups of teachers and will yield specific product outcomes based on the aforementioned learning targets. The groups listed below who meet during first and second periods will focus on the first learning target associated with data teams; the groups who meet in the afternoon workshops will focus on the specific learning targets (provided by Sarah Boddy) associated with EL. The 14 substitutes will rotate between the classrooms of participating teachers throughout the day (a rotation matrix will be created in order to facilitate this movement).
