STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

In mid 90s, computer at home was a luxury. Projects in school demanded searching for information, this provided me an opportunity to use computer and this was my first acquaintance to the computer. Power of computers to fetch information from all around the globe fascinated me. This developed the inquisit thinking in me to know more about the discipline called Computers. Maths has always been one of the favorite subjects from school days and solving puzzles interests me. Computer programming which involves both problem solving and analytic thinking, intrigued me during my high school. Computer fundamentals and BASIC language formed part of curriculum in school. Growing interest in computers and its applications, evolution of technology during my school and college days, led me to take up computer science as my major for undergraduate program. Graduation started at M.S.Ramaiah Institute of Technology in Information Science and Engineering discipline. C, C++, Database Management Systems, File Structures and Analysis and Design of Algorithms were imparted during the first two years. C and C++ laid a strong foundation of the different styles of programming paradigm. Algorithms course helped in developing an understanding of problem solving and the complexities involved. Database Management helped to gain knowledge of an important part of most of the computer applications - handling and retrieving data. Over the next two years subjects such as Java, Computer Networks, Software Engineering and Management Information Systems largely enriched my knowledge in Computer Domain. In the final year, a Project to develop a email system for the use of internal employees was entrusted. We as a two member team developed a SMTP server to receive and forward mails, and also developed a user authentication system based on machine IPs. The client used to retrieve messages through simple pooling. Messages were encrypted during transmission as well as storing. The project was developed using C#. My role was to implement the server, encryption of the messages and was also involved in developing the database schema. Professional journey started with Accenture Services Pvt Ltd, India. To equip us with skills for corporate world, we had a training session for the first three months. I fared well here and topped the training in Software Testing domain and was awarded for the same. First assignment was for a leading bank in the USA. This project gave me a lot of exposure to learn about various testing methodologies, quality of deliverables and provided an opportunity to interact and discuss with the client. Was awarded Propel Award for driving the project to completion single handed. My second project was in Healthcare Domain, for an Australian

client. The electronic health record project involved me in the entire product lifecycle starting from requirement phase to the deployment. A lot of challenges, new technologies learnt and client interactions boosted my confidence. Was awarded Star Of The Month for my consistent hard work, excellent domain knowledge and proactiveness in finding the root cause of issues and solving them. Have effectively mentored the juniors in my team. Working with industry experts, helped me gain a lot of domain knowledge, gave an insight into the challenges. The expertise and guidance gained in the process have indeed been invaluable and long lasting. Listening to music gives me a lot of relaxation. Reading novels and watching movies are my other interests. I am a trained Indian classical dancer. Have a passion for cooking and travelling as well. During my college days have participated actively in organising various cultural and technical events. I bring along a strong grasp of fundamentals in Computer Science, an aptitude for teamwork, a zest for challenges and an enthusiastic desire to learn all I can. I would like to take with me, in addition to knowledge , a network of strong and lasting relationships with my teachers and fellow-students. I hope that my background and qualifications are found suitable for an MS in Information system at your esteemed University. Arguably NTU is one of the leading Technological Universities and recently has been ranked within top 50 universities in the world. It is unique in that it personifies a diversified culture, underscores the importance of practical education and provides an environment that facilitates Research aimed at betterment of Society. These have struck a chord in my mind and look forward to be a part of this amazing culture.
