The 8 Academic Council of Anna University met on 18-03-2006 made
certain important changes in the existing Curriculum and Regulations in respect
of various B.E. / B.Tech. programmes including the introduction of new Curricula
and Syllabi under the Annual Pattern for the first year B.E. / B.Tech.
programmes to be admitted from the academic year 2006-07 with minor
modifications in Regulations 2004 to be applicable to the students admitted
under Annual Pattern.
The M.B.A Curricula have also been modified and approved. Regulations
concerning B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes have also been modified to facilitate
the students to move to the higher semesters.
The Council has approved the proposal to upgrade B.Sc. programmes
in to five year M.Sc. programmes.
The modifications, amendments, pertaining to the Under Graduate and
Post Graduate programmes facultywise are given in the appropriate places in
bold letters. Some of the items need your immediate attention as they are related
to the current semesters of study July-November, 2006.
The Curricula & Syllabi of III to VI semester and electives for M.C.A
programme are approved. The whole details are given in the website of this office
under “Abstract of the Minutes of the 8th Academic Council”

and students of your college and implement the changes.

**5. The Academic Council has ratified the minor changes in the syllabus
of the course “BFT242 Garment Construction” of B.Sc Apparel and
Fashion Technology of Regulation 2003.

6. The Academic Council has approved to rationalize the offer of B.Sc /


M.Sc degree programmes as follows:
1. to withdraw all B.Sc. programmes presently offered by
Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University
2. to offer either M.Sc (2 year) programme or M.Sc (5-year)
programme, but not both in same discipline.

remaining three years may be prepared and placed in the next meeting of
the Board of Studies.

7. The Academic Council has approved the introduction of Annual pattern


(for first year only) for the B.E / B.Tech programmes of Anna University, to
be followed by affiliated colleges from the Academic year 2006-2007
onwards.

for the first year B.E. Civil Engineering degree programme offered under
Faculty of Civil Engineering to be followed by the affiliated Colleges from

17. The Academic Council has ratified the list of equipment for the

46. The Academic Council has approved the amendments related to the
introduction of X semester B.Arch. (Interior Design) to various clauses of

49. The Academic Council has ratified the inclusion of an elective course
“BA070 Retail Management” of MBA degree programmme under
Regulations 2002 and to approve its detailed syllabus as presented at the
meeting.

50. The Academic Council has revised the overall Curriculum (I to IV


Semester) & Syllabi should be made applicable to the MBA students to be
admitted from the academic year 2006-2007 onwards and the III and IV
Semester Curriculum shall be made applicable to the students admitted in
the year 2005-2006 also.
Change in Regulations :
• The duration of summer project for MBA programme is
reduced from 8 weeks to 6 weeks.
• The marks for project work of MBA programme is to be
revised as 400 marks instead of 200 marks and the
internal assessment marks is to be revised as 80
marks instead of 40 marks.

51. The Academic Council has ratified the list of equipment for the

52. The Academic Council has approved the change in the duration of the
summer project to six weeks from eight weeks, which is to be done in the
summer after the second semester University Examinations.

53. The Academic Council has ratified the amendment to Clause 3.2.1. of
Ph.D. regulations of Anna University regarding the permission granted to
the teachers of Government / Government Aided Polytechnic colleges to
register for Ph.D. programme on part-time basis in Anna University as
presented at the meeting.

Plastics Technology respectively to be followed by the affiliated
engineering colleges from the academic year 2006-2007 onwards.

COMMON TO ALL FACULTIES

57. The Academic Council has approved the changes of question paper
pattern, revaluation and supply of Xerox copies of answer sheets of U.G.
programmes as follows:
1. In Part B all question (Q.No.11 to 15) must be ‘either or’ type
and compulsory question may be dispensed with.
2. Further, the council has decided to follow the revised
question paper pattern from the University Semester
Examinations to be conducted in November / December 2006
onwards.

**58. The Academic Council has approved the introduction of a new


laboratory course “Communication Skills Laboratory” in place of
“Communication Skills and Seminar” and “Professional / Presentation
Skills and Seminar / Technical Seminar” of V and VI semesters of B.E. /
B.Tech programmes under Regulations 2004.

Regulations

59. The Academic Council has approved the proposal of directing the
students studying in affiliated colleges of Anna University who after break
of study rejoin when new Regulations are in force to undergo the
remaining semesters as per the Curricula & Syllabi in force under the new
Regulations.

60. The Academic Council has ratified the permission granted to implement
the following changes in the Curricula & Syllabi of various UG & PG
programmes with effect from the session June 2005 to December 2005 of
the Academic year 2005-2006 as recommended by the Boards of Studies
as presented at the meeting.
1. Curriculum 2005 for M.E. (Part time) programmes

2. Minor changes in the Curriculum of M.E. CAD / CAM of


Regulations 2005.

• “ED1627 Industrial Robotics and Expert Systems” is


introduced in place of “CC1602 Robotics and Sensors”.

• Inclusion of elective “Rapid Prototyping and Tooling”.


3. The Syllabus for “CAD Lab” and “Analysis and Simulation Lab” of
first semester and Second Semester M.E. CAD under Regulations
2005.

4. Modification of syllabus of “CE1161 Fluid and Solid Mechanics”


offered for third semester B.E. EEE, ICE and EIE under
Regulations 2001.
