A Personalised Approach to Safeguarding


This is a discussion paper published by the Centre for Welfare Reform. It outlines a Safeguarding Framework to help people be safe, well and included. Its basic idea is that people have an active role in safeguarding themselves. To read the report follow this link: http://bit.ly/169LoEl

Would your group like to be part of a Patient/Service User Group?

Voluntary Organisations Disability Group Health Charter


The Voluntary Organisations Disability Group is developing a health charter for social care providers. This will address health inequalities for people with learning disabilities. A guidance pack is being produced alongside the charter to promote good practice.

Exclusion of Parent Carers from the Care Bill


Carers UK, Contact a Family, the National Network of Parent Carer Forums and others are worried about the exclusion of parent carers from the Care Bill. This would mean that parents of disabled children have less rights than carers of adults. They are contacting MPs to try to get it changed. Equality and Human Rights Commission Questionnaire

Petition to Protect People from Poor Care

CreateABILITY Art Sessions


CreateABILITY are offering creative sessions throughout the day on a pay as you go basis. All sessions are now only 10 which includes a canvas to take home and a chance your work will be shown in a real exhibition! Creating art isnt about right or wrong. It doesnt have to be difficult, a space where anything goes, a chance to explore your creativity whatever your ability from the young to the old all are welcome. Group and Individual bookings are available, enquiries are welcome.

Sound Communication: A fantastic, fun workshop opportunity


For PAs, family members and anyone working with people with learning disabilities or autism in Yorkshire and the Humber. Saturday 2nd November, 10am to 4pm Where? Music Block, York St John University, Lord Mayors Walk, York, YO31 7EX The workshop offers a chance to explore your own skills in communication and ways to develop and enhance other language skills using sound and music. Film Academy for Young People with Learning Disabilities


Beacon Hill Arts is running a Film Academy to support 1619 year olds with learning disabilities, autism or additional needs. They are looking to recruit 12 young people to take part in the Film Academy which starts in November this year. They are holding a taster selection day at the end of
