PROSPECTUS

NUS DIPLOMA COURSE IN TISSUE BANKING


CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

• Must have at least GCE 'O' Level or Equivalent.


• Must have worked at least 12 months in a recognized tissue bank.

COURSE FEE

US$ 100.00 made payable to 'NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE'

REGISTRATION

All participants must fill up the Registration Form including payment of Registration Fee
of US $100.00 made payable to 'National University of Singapore' by 28th February 2000.

DURATION OF COURSE

ONE YEAR

1. IAEA Curriculum on Tissue Banking Multi-Media Curriculum produced by NUH


Tissue Bank- Books, Slide-sets, Video tapes, Audio tapes. This will be given to all
participants by courtesy of the Singapore Government during the Foundation Course.
2. Textbooks recommended by RTC –' Advances in Tissue Banking'.

FORMAT OF DIPLOMA COURSE

This is a DISTANCE LEARNING Diploma Course of 1 YEAR DURATION. It has 3


COMPONENTS:-

COMPONENT 1

2 Week Foundation Course In IAEA / NUS Regional Training Centre (NUH TISSUE
BANK) in Singapore,3-15 APRIL 2001.
Core Curriculum Lectures on all Modules (0,1-7) of IAEA Curriculum of Tissue Banks
will be covered by Lectures during the Foundation Course
In addition, Lectures will be given on the following areas:-
1. Basic Anatomy
2. Basic Microbiology
3. Basic Immunology of Tissue Transplantation
1. Principles of Sterile Surgical Technique
2. Basic Radiation Sciences
6. Basic Biology of Healing of Tissue Transplantation
7. Basic Biomechanics of Tissue Transplantation
8. Introduction to Transmissible Diseases

One Theory and one Practical Examination will be held at end of Foundation Course.
The Course includes HANDS-ON-DEMONSTRATION IN Wet and Dry Processing
Laboratories.

COMPONENT 2

1 YEAR PERIOD OF SELF STUDY BY TRAINEE under 'Trainer' assigned by


Regional Training Centre. 3 Assignments will be given by RTC:-

(Based on Modules 4-7, Textbook) 30November 2001

Assignment 3
(Practical Assignments) March 2002*
* To be presented during the Terminal Examination.

REQUIREMENTS OF COURSE

1. It is compulsory for all candidates sitting for the Course to attend the Foundation
Course.
2. All assignments must be received before the candidate is allowed to sit for the
Examination.
3. All candidates are required to present themselves for the Exam at end of 1 year.
NUS CERTIFICATION

National University of Singapore will award

DIPLOMA IN TISSUE BANKING >80 MARKS


(WITH DISTINCTION)
DIPLOMA IN TISSUE BANKING 70-79 MARKS
(WITH CREDIT)

DIPLOMA IN TISSUE BANKING 50-69 MARKS


(PASS)

SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS

Unsuccessful candidates are allowed maximum of 3 attempts at main or supplementary


examinations. Supplementary Examination will be held in March 2003
