English Pedagogy
Student Teaching Practice
Final Practicum

Workshop Nº 2

Refer to the Teaching Stage you have already started and answer the
following questions:

1. Do you feel satisfied with your performance as a teacher so far? Take about
the things you like and about the ones you don´t like.
Considering the performance and the way I felt during my teaching stage I
could say that now I really feel at a clear point of beginning in my teaching
process. This semester has been particularly special, because doing my
practicum allowed me to open my mind and reflect about my own teacher
performance, my students and how they learn and feel my English classes.
In terms of the things I do not like about my own process, I should talk about
my Lesson Plan timing and my lack of ability to remember my student’s name.
Anyway the thing I like the most about my teaching performance is the good
reception of the things I talk during my class and also the way I have to use all
the things my students have in their social environment , so the y can feel
really engaged and connected with the subject.

Guide teacher´s support: How effective has it been during this stage? Why?

In just one word: essential. My guide teacher, as the word says, was a real
guide to me, providing me feedback in the right moment and letting me do my
classes without any interruption.

2. Student´s level of engagement: Do your students enjoy the classroom

learning activities presented? ; What do they say about them?

I wonder who enjoyed the most, the students or me. But according to the
feedback they provided seems like they enjoyed quite a lot. The main
ingredient was to scan my students’ likes and hobbies through different
“Knowing each other” workshops, so I could learn more about them and
prepare carefully the classes according to the music they were listening, their
favorite’s movies and characters and also their favorite hobbies and
videogames.

3. Planning and lesson preparation: What teaching approach do you consider

appropriate to students ´learning style? Which one are you actually using with
them? Why?

More than using one teaching approach I could say I use a mixed from the
main parts in every approach. At certain point I have to use the Inclusive
approach and integrate my students to the class instead of only focusing on
their intellectual performance, valuing particularly their effort and class
participation, over accuracy and development of the language.
Using the constructivist is also part of my teaching style, as it allows me to
create interactive activities, so my students can discover the things they have
to learn by developing their sense of importance towards the English subject.
Other styles used in my class are Cooperative learning, by developing group
activities with so called captains in every group and performing a sense of
group working over the individual method, so more advanced students can
help others from their group.
Another important approach I am still trying to apply is the multiple
intelligence approach, but this is one of the most difficult, due to my own
capacity to differentiate the activities for the different students and also to the
importance of knowing in detail my own students.

4. Lesson Timing: How much of the planned activities do you actually cover in
each lesson? Is it what you expected?

Actually this is the part I had most of the trouble with. When performing my
class I usually found myself finishing the lesson 15 or 10 minutes before I
planned; so then I had to have some extra activities just in case. Another hard
point to deal with was the wrong timing in many of my activities, while I
thought an activity could last 10 minutes, my students ended that in 5 and vice
versa. Then I realized the importance of those “extra” activities to save the
day.
