Home sweet home! The little red ones on the left are my favorite! They' re one of the most studied flowers on the planet. This landscape has done more f or scientists trying to understand plant/pollinator interactions and the effects of global warming than any other. Ok, that's mostly because it's accessible, th e area has infrastructure while many parts are still nearly pristine, and at ele vation one can study an entire season of growth in three months, but I digress. Thanks for posting, OP! TL;DR I like flowers. permalink [ ]haudtoo[S] 4 points 4 hours ago You are so welcome! Also, love the RMBLrs =)

permalinkparent [ ]ipomopsis 4 points 3 hours ago* What do we do? Science! Where do we do it? Over there! Rocky! Mountain! Biologic al! Laboratory! Founded 1928! (Yep I work at a high-altitude field station that has a friggin' fight song.) permalinkparent [ ]alpineglow 2 points 1 hour ago Gold-en Mar-mot! ;) permalinkparent [ ]ipomopsis [score hidden] 58 minutes ago Did you... did you just create a throwaway account to say "golden marmot?" That is weird. But so is sticking your hand up a papier-mache marmot's ass to get bee r, so whatever, I guess. permalinkparent [ ]xalaxulanm 0 points 1 hour ago Spanking Miley Cyrus ass permalinkparent [ ]silentplummet1 10 points 5 hours ago More like 1200 x 801? permalink [ ]haudtoo[S] 9 points 5 hours ago Aaah, I'm so sorry! I don't know how this happened. Here's the larger res: http://i.imgur.com/MDraWwm.jpg permalinkparent [ ]DrMantisofPhilly 6 points 5 hours ago Yes! Colorado looked so beautiful this year wildflower wise. Up north in the mou ntains west of Fort Collins it looked like this in all of the burned areas of th e high park fire. So beautiful! permalink [ ]Stickypicknflick 4 points 5 hours ago I took a few shots identical to this in June when I went hiking near Crested But te (behind CB South). Millions of flowers. They were on my dumb-phone so I cant get them onto the internet. permalink [ ]ipomopsis 3 points 4 hours ago CB says what's up! Come on back, any time and get some more photos! permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 3 points 4 hours ago Good catch! This was in July, maybe an hour out from the East Fork / Maroon Pass trailhead near Crested Butte en route to Frigid Air Pass. permalinkparent [ ]VanntheMann 4 points 4 hours ago Looks like the 401 trail in Crested Butte, Colorado. permalink [ ]Bob3333 4 points 4 hours ago The linked picture is not 2272 x 1515, it's 1200 x 801 and really grainy with sm eared detail. permalink [ ]haudtoo[S] 1 point 3 hours ago Sorry! See my earlier comment with a higher res. But... yes, it's not perfectly sharp. Sorry I don't have better glass and a full frame sensor! :( permalinkparent [ ]Bob3333 2 points 3 hours ago Don't get me wrong, the composition and subject are great. The only cameras I've ever seen with images like that use Sony sensors. Even ancient Canon mini point and shoots don't smear the details like that. Is that camera an older Nikon SLR , or a Sony by any chance? permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 2 points 2 hours ago It's a Canon 60D with the stock Canon APS-C sensor.

permalinkparent [ ]Bob3333 2 points 1 hour ago It must be the post-processing. I own several Canon cameras (including SLRs) and I've never seen an image come out like that - even from my ancient 20D. Over sh arpening can cause that effect. permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] [score hidden] 33 minutes ago It's definitely the post-processing. The original image isn't especially sharp, which was the point I was trying to make :) permalinkparent [ ]Bob3333 [score hidden] 12 minutes ago I have that problem a lot with Canon SLRs. It seems highly dependent on the lens . I have some L lenses with sharpness that defies logic, but the kit lens is a d og. permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] [score hidden] 2 minutes ago Yup. I love the shit out of this lens (Tamron's 18-270mm Di II VC PZD) because i t's ridiculously versatile and weighs next to nothing, but I wouldn't go anywher e near a test card with it. permalinkparent [ ]muchobanana 3 points 5 hours ago Nice shot! Looks like those purple flowers are some silvery lupine, i could be w rong though. permalink [ ]ipomopsis 2 points 4 hours ago* Edit: whoops! I agreed this was lupin, which grows in the same area, but on clos er inspection (thanks for the higher res, OP) I realized these guys were delphin ium (larkspur.) permalinkparent [ ]Calibas 2 points 4 hours ago The blue flowers appear to be larkspur, compare the leaves you see at the bottom to these. I'm not sure which species these are, maybe mountain larkspur? permalinkparent [ ]The_Starmaker 3 points 3 hours ago Wow. Purple mountain majesties. permalink [ ]TrustyOneHit 3 points 3 hours ago I love that area! I have been up that trail to a point and then peeled off to th e north to reach Hasley Pass. A true hiker's delight. I would like to do some mo re backpacking around this area for sure. permalink [ ]AAAAPATRICKAAAA 3 points 3 hours ago I would love to shroom there permalink [ ]occupymars 2 points 1 hour ago Shrooms would love to you there permalinkparent [ ]ilikefunkymusic 6 points 4 hours ago This reminds me of the time I ate some acid with a buddy when I was living in Va il. It was the middle of June and we both had the day off. Both being heavily in to mountain biking, we just couldn't avoid the temptation of riding up the gondo la "for the view." Conscious of how stupid it would be to attempt trail riding w hile tripping, we just couldn't say no to riding across the back bowls on "grand traverse." I will never forget that experience. The ride up felt like it was ov er before it began. On the ride down, I remember thinking to myself.. ((this mus t be what it feels like to be a cheetah))... I could anticipate undulations and variations in the trail conditions well ahead of time. I've never felt so, alert , so on point.. so, ALIVE! It was an epic day. We ended up full on downhilling f or the rest of the day. I don't necessarily condone eating LSD and attempting to mountain bike, but if you have the skills and the confidence I actually highly

condone it. You only live once permalink [ ]beardiswhereilive [score hidden] 5 minutes ago I too find biking is much easier while tripping. I, however, did it in Houston ( a notoriously cyclist-unfriendly city) at rush hour, and it felt amazing. I coul d anticipate what drivers were doing, I could pedal at full speed with hardly an y effort, and had no problem riding with no hands (which normally I'd struggle w ith. Like you said, I felt alive. Something about tripping and biking... permalinkparent [ ]parsnippity 2 points 4 hours ago Allergies as far as the eyes can see! permalink [ ]RLWSNOOK 2 points 4 hours ago Is Aspen the favorite destination of people who frequent reddit? I keep seeing p ics from Aspen. permalink [ ]haudtoo[S] 2 points 3 hours ago This is nearer to Crested Butte, but... ;P permalinkparent [ ]RLWSNOOK 2 points 3 hours ago Ha fair enough. Is it over the pass on the way down to Crested butte? permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 2 points 3 hours ago This is off the East Fork / Maroon Pass trailhead near Gothic. I started the Fou r Pass Loop from the CB side - this was day one! permalinkparent [ ]RLWSNOOK 2 points 2 hours ago Nice. I've never done the loop.. But have hiked from Aspen to Crested Butte and then drove back. permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 4 points 2 hours ago I did that too, by way of Conundrum Hot Springs / Triangle Pass! permalinkparent [ ]Cows_Are_Basterds 2 points 3 hours ago To see heaven in a wild flower. permalink [ ]SantaAnaXY 2 points 3 hours ago This makes me want to travel there next June just so I can witness this in perso n! permalink [ ]haudtoo[S] 1 point 3 hours ago I would really recommend it!! So much pain. And the inadequate amount of toilet paper... shudders permalink [ ]CO_piratemonkey [score hidden] 11 minutes ago The Bells were my first fourteeners. That looks like an amazing painting! permalink [ ]vanillayanyan 1 point 3 hours ago I wish there was a landscape like this where I live... But at the same time I pr obably wouldn't be able to enjoy it with all that pollen. I can only imagine the itchy eyes and sneezing :( permalink [ ]zackattack89 1 point 3 hours ago Da Bellllllllls! permalink [ ]TopTierGoat 1 point 2 hours ago I live in FoCo and dont get out to the western slope much at all anymore. Thank you for sharing !!!!! permalink [ ]JGWol 2 points 5 hours ago Sigh. Living in oklahoma sucks. Taking a trip to colorado springs was one of the

most crazy sights. I didn't know the midwest could be that beautiful. permalink [ ]DenverLarksHoops 12 points 4 hours ago Colorado is considered a western state. The midwest never extends past Nebraska/ Kansas. permalinkparent [ ]Gnasha13 1 point 5 hours ago Just looking a this picture was enough to induce some serious hayfever. permalink [ ]danar1793 1 point 5 hours ago looks like marijuana at the bottom of the picture near the road. permalink [ ]Calibas 3 points 5 hours ago Pretty sure it's a species of larkspur. permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 2 points 5 hours ago Ha! Those are blue bells :) permalinkparent [ ]ipomopsis 1 point 4 hours ago Sorry, op, they are larkspur. Delphinium. I think bluebells were done flowering when you took this photo. Judging by the flora, this is mid to late July? permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 1 point 4 hours ago Gosh, you are entirely correct! Those are most definitely larkspur. It was indee d late July, but there were plenty of places where the bluebells were still in b loom at that time. permalinkparent [ ]ipomopsis 2 points 4 hours ago Yeah, but usually wetter, flat areas, right? permalinkparent [ ]haudtoo[S] 2 points 4 hours ago Bingo! Often under canopy, as well. permalinkparent [ ]Calibas 1 point 4 hours ago Are you sure the red ones are scarlet gilias and not indian paintbrush? It's har d to tell from the image. permalinkparent [ ]ipomopsis 1 point 4 hours ago* check my user name. :) Edit: In retrospect that seems awfully smug and uninformative. Let me try again. Check out my user name! :) I'm very familiar with this ecosystem, and I'm reason ably certain that we're looking at ipomopsis aggregatta, a plant that many of my colleagues study and that I have a certain fondness for. permalinkparent [ ]chenleaf 1 point 5 hours ago I've been to Denver twice for almost 2 months, what a shame I missed this kind o f places.. permalink [ ]DasAZinger -1 points 1 hour ago I don't get why you guys take the time to appreciate nature. The earth belongs t o man, look at this pristine landscape! all the metal we could be mining from it , we should topple those mountains and empty the insides, these fields look extr emely fertile, we can burn it all and grow acres and acres of farmland permalink about blog about team source code advertise
