STEP 1: PREPARATION
Use a level and tape measure to install furring
strips. Find the existing wall’s studs. Set furring
strips vertically and horizontally spaced 16” to
no more than 24 inches on center in accord with
your stud design.

•• For ease of installation, marking and drilling

pilot holes in wall is recommended. 16”-24”
•• For metal walls, install plastic insulators to
prevent galvanic reaction.
•• Shimming may be needed to ensure that
furring strips sit flush against solid backing if
surface is stair-stepped such as lapped siding.

STEP 2: INSTALL FURRING STRIPS

Align and drive top and bottom furring strip
anchors, and then drive all intermediate anchors.
Provide a minimum of one anchor per 16 verti-
cal inches to a solid, strong anchor point.
NOTE: Because LiveWall can be installed on a
variety of wall types, anchors are not included. Wall studs

STEP 3: INSTALL SLOT RAIL
•• Use measuring equipment and level to mark the location
(horizontally) for the Slot Rail (H-Rail). This piece will not have
holes for the irrigation nozzles. Align the bottom of the slot Slot Rail Section
rail to bottom of furring strips and center the slot rail with the
furring strips. TOP
•• Mark, then drill 1/4” pilot holes in v-groove of slot rails at V-groove
points of attachment to furring strips.
•• If desired, drill 3/16” pilot holes into the furring strips for ease Drill here
of fastening. When drilling, use a stop on the drill bit to keep it
from penetrating the building wall.
•• Be sure that the slot rail is properly oriented with the larger
slot facing down (see right). Using provided self-tapping
fastening screws and T-27 torque bit, securely attach the slot rails
to the furring strips at every point where they interface.
•• DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. BOTTOM
•• Hint: Use (2) C-Clamps to hold slot rail in place for ease of install

Beginning at the top RainRail, follow these steps:

•• On the side which you want to feed irrigation, push the LightBlock Elbow onto the smooth end of a RainRail
Adapter, and insert the double-o ring end of the RainRail Adapter into the end of the top RainRail.
•• Push 1” x 10 5/8” section of pipe into the LightBlock Elbow.
•• Push LightBlock Tee onto a RainRail Adapter, insert top end of Tee into previously installed section of pipe, and
insert RainRail Adapter into end of second RainRail. Insert another piece of 1” x 10 5/8” pipe onto bottom end of
Tee. Repeat this step for all RainRails.
•• Secure all RainRail Adapters with set screws.
•• Cut 42” pipe to desired length, and push onto the bottom end of
the lowest LightBlock Tee. The pipe may extend as far down from the
wall as desired; however, at least 1 foot distance from pipe to ground LightBlock
is needed. Then, push 1” Light Block Male Adapter onto end of pipe Elbow

STEP 6: INSTALL HIDEAWAY BRACKETS AND TRIM BOARDS
LiveWall recommends that trimboard is used on at least one side of the living wall - the side that has the irrigation
chase. Some owners may choose to line both sides with trim board, and others to put a frame around the entire living
wall. Enough HideAway brackets to install trim board on either side are supplied. Should you wish to create an entire
frame, please contact us for extra brackets.

•• Install perimeter HideAway brackets Space HideAway brackets close enough together to provide sufficient
support for facing against wind pressure.
•• Space brackets no greater than 24” on center.
•• Install trim boards (not included) onto HideAway Brackets.

»» Install top row first, beginning with a 16” wide wall planters.
»» Planters in the first row are all 16” wide planters.
»» Push the top edge of the planter into the RainRail slot above it, and then drop the bottom edge down into
the lower RainRail slot.
»» The second row is installed beginning with an 8” wide WallTer module on the right hand side. This is
followed by a series of 16” modules, and ends with another 8” module.
•• Install WallTer Limiting Screw in score line toward top of WallTer module. (Optional for theft or wind resistance)

For Plant and Soil Selection and Planting Instructions, see the LIVEWALL PLANTING GUIDE (enclosed).
•• Install WallTer™ Inserts into the WallTer wall planters.
•• Run irrigation system for a couple of minutes to settle soil and prevent plant material from wilting.
•• Set hose timer to recommended irrigation settings listed in included LiveWall Maintenance Protocol, included.
