continuously updated though the years. This is one of the few

events you can attend and get a hot shower at. The hosts also
do a very good job of providing hay and firewood and
plumbed water is available all over the site.
On November 3-4, the many members of the 48th will be
attending the Battle of Missionary Ridge. Unlike past years,
this event is NOT a max effort event (see Tallassee) but many
of us will be attending since it is in our back yard
The event is being held on the grounds of Sequoyah Caverns near Valley Head, Alabama. This is the fourth year that
an event has been held on the site and the third year that it has
featured a Missionary Ridge scenario. The site has a prominent ridge that is ideal for recreating this legendary battle.
This a smaller event and its location at Sequoyah Caverns
park make is very family friendly. The park itself has both
tent and camper sites available for those want to go modern
for the weekend. There will be several sutlers on site and a
period dance on Saturday night.
Please be sure to bring your Federal gear to this event
since we certainly will be called on to galvanize. Also, please
note that Tallassee the next weekend is a max effort event for
both the 48th and the Hardee Guard. If you have to choose
between the two, please support the 48th and the HGB at Tallassee.

Enclosed in this issue you will find event information and

directions for The Battles at Tallassee. The event is being
hosted by the Tallassee Armory Guards Camp #1921 of the
S.C.V.
This will be the last reenactment of the year for us, and is
likely to be the last time well all get together this year, unless
of course we decide to do some Christmas parades. Therefore,
please make a special effort to get out for this event.

Guard Battalion. Being the last event of the year, the Hardee
Guard will conduct its elections there so be sure to attend so
your voice can be heard.
At last word, the Hardee Guard is supposed to be Confederate at the this event. However, considering what happened
at Tunnel Hill this year, it would advisable to bring both uniforms.
Registration for Tallassee is $5.00 and can be paid on site.

In the photo to the lower left, three Union soldiers can be observed doing an obvious reenacting
no-no. All three of them have there hands propped
up on the muzzles of their muskets. In addition, two
of them appear to have their bayonets fixed. If their
muskets were loaded, they would be in very real
danger of suffering a severe a severe hand injury.
Thankfully, most reenactors are well drilled and
sights like this are rare. However, there are some
factors that make this picture all the more amazing:
- This is an original picture
-These Union soldiers are guarding Confederate
soldiers captured at the battle of Five Forks (as seen
in the back ground).
-You have to figure that their guns are loaded with
live ammunition!

Tallassee & Vicinity

The event is located in Tallassee 1 mile on the right on Elmore County

Road 4, off of Alabama Highway 229 South. Exit I-85 at exit 26 and
follow the signs. Tallassee is located between Montgomery and Auburn.
