College women most likely to be rape victims

Women are at greater risk for rape and sexual assault than women in the general population. At any college of 10,000 people, women could experience more than 350 rapes a year.

National Institute of Justice and Bureau of Justice Statistics 1.7 percent of female college students were victims of attempted rape 3 percent of college women experience a completed/and or attempted rape during a college year 10 percent of completed rapes occurred at a fraternity 13 percent of college women have been stalked since the school year began 60 percent of completed rapes took place on campus

The study Study results are based on a telephone survey of a randomly selected, national sample of 4,446 women who were attending a 2- or 4-year college or university. This survey was limited to schools that have at least 1,000 students. The study suggests that rape victimization is a prominent problem for women in college and must be addressed by public politicians. The study also focuses on the importance of organizations to improve education and knowledge about sexual assault. Attention to the sexual victimization of college women Bonnie S. Fisher, a professor at the University of Cincinnati, conducted the federally funded study. She found that many women do not characterize their sexual victimizations as a crime for a number of reasons: Embarrassment Not understanding the legal definition of rape Not wanting to define the individual who victimized them as a rapist Blaming themselves for their sexual assault For more information about Bonnie S.
