Classroom Policies
Voyager Math

Most of the rules and consequences for breaking these rules are included in your school
handbook. I highly suggest that you familiarize yourself with the disciplinary code
section in your handbook.

Attendance, Tardies, and Absences:

1. You are expected to be in the classroom and in your seat on time when the bell rings. If
you are late, you will receive a tardy. The consequences for tardies are as follows:

1st Tardy: Written or verbal warning by teacher.

2nd & 3rd Tardies: Teacher assigned detention.
4th +: Thursday School / Referral to Office

2. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get your missing assignment from
website, classroom assignments list, or another classmate. I expect you to copy any
missing notes from a neighbor, and if you missed a worksheet, to get a copy of it. I will
give you one day for each excused day that you were absent to make up your missing
work.

Materials/Late Work/Grading Policies:

1. You are expected to show up to class with all of your materials (math book, notebook,
paper, school handbook, and pencils). If you forget your materials multiple times, then a
detention or sentences will be assigned. If you do not have your homework it will be
counted as an incomplete assignment. No excuses!

2. All assignments should be completed by the beginning of the period on the due date.
If not, they will be counted as incomplete. Late assignments are not accepted for credit
(except in special occasions).

3. Your class will be graded on a weighted scale.

Grading Category Weights:

Homework: 40%
Quizzes: 20%
Tests: 40%

Homework, Notebook, and Test Grades:

1. Homework is vital to your success in math. Please note a few rules for homework:
Homework must be completed in pencil.
Homework is due at the beginning of class; otherwise, it is considered
incomplete.
 Homework will be graded a variety of ways. Some assignments will be
completion grades, some assignments will be collected, and most
assignments will be graded in class.
Most homework grades will count as 6 points.
1. 6 points: 85% mastery or better.
2. 5 points: homework is completed with a fair amount of
mistakes or showing insufficient work.
3. 4 points: homework was complete but the concept was not
grasped, or homework was completed unsatisfactorily.
4. 3 points: homework was not completed on time. Permission
was given to turn the assignment in late (this is RARE), a study
session was attended, homework was completed and scored, a
level of 85% accuracy or higher was obtained.
5. 0 points: homework was not completed by the due date.
Homework is intended for practice and to improve your skills in Math.
Therefore, 100% accuracy is not the goal. It is ok if you make mistakes,
as long as you take time to understand and correct your mistakes.

3. Tests and quizzes are to be taken seriously as they will form the major portion of
your grade. You WILL NEED to study for a math test, and I will coach you on how to
do this. In many cases, I will provide a practice one to three days prior to your test. You
should consider homework and test reviews as the place where you “practice” and
“improve” your math skills. Tests, then, are your opportunities to demonstrate what you
have learned. Generally, the day before a test is a review day. If you are absent for the
test review, you will still be expected to take the test with the rest of the class when you
return.

Food & Drink

Unless otherwise noted, you are not allowed to have any food or drink in my classroom.
This includes candy and gum. If you have food, drink, or candy (which I did not give
you), you will be required to throw it away immediately and will receive a detention for
the first offense.

There will be times when I give you candy as a reward. If I give you candy as a reward,
then you are welcome to eat this during class.
Classroom Behavior
1. I will not put up with disruptive behavior in my classroom. If you talk without
permission, act in an unkind manner towards another student, are out of your seat without
permission, distract myself or others, or fail to comply with instructions that I give you, I
will follow through with the consequences listed in your school planner.

Consequences for Disruptive Behavior:

1st Offense - Warning
2nd & 3rd Offense – Detention, Phone Call Home
4th + Offense – Referral to Office

2. Sleeping is not allowed during class. It is your responsibility to get enough sleep the
night before.

3. Profanity or unkind speech of any kind will not be tolerated in my classroom. This
includes the use of vulgarity, profanity, obscene language and/or abusive language. This
is a learning environment, and we will all strive to keep it as positive as possible.

Hall Passes
You will have a limited number of passes (in your student handbook) that you may use to
go to the restroom. Please note that these are a privilege. In general, I will give you two
passes per grading period. However, once your pass book is full, it is full. Please use
your passes wisely. If you absolutely need to go to the restroom, but have used all of
your passes, then I may still write you a pass, but you will receive a 15 minute detention
for it.

If you have any questions on anything throughout the school year, I will be available
before and after school to help you out. Extra help is available by appointment on
Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. If you would like to stay for a help session, then
you will want to schedule this at least 24 hours in advance.

Everything that I covered in this list is about choices. You decide which path you want to
go on for the rest of your life, and your decisions start here. You are deciding that you
want to learn. You are deciding that you want to be in class on time. You are deciding
that you want to do your homework. You are deciding that you want to act appropriately
in my classroom.

Everything we do in class will be focused on helping you improve your understanding

and skills in math.
