Unit 3 Chemistry - Types of Chemical Reaction Lab Directions: For each reaction do the following #1-5: 1.

Perform each reaction 4. classify the type of reaction 2. record your observations, 5. balance equation with states. 3. take pictures for the blog A. Obtain Copper (II) Nitrate and small 50mL beaker. Place a small piece (1.00cm x 1.00cm) of aluminium into the beaker and then pour the Copper solution over the aluminium until it is at least halfway covered by solution. 2. The copper color changes to silver and disintegrated which it became very thin. The solution that the copper is in became blue.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Reactions 5. Cu(s) + 2Ag No3(aq) 2Ag(s) + Cu(NO3)2 (aq)Single Displacement

B. - Obtain a 50mL beaker, pour about 20mL of D.I. water and a few drops of Phenolphthalein to it, record the pH. - Add about 5.0 mL of 1M NaOH, record the pH w/ pH meter & litmus paper, also test it for electrolytes w/conductivity apparatus. - Wash off the conductivity & pH sensor with D.I. water after you use it or it will corrode!!!

- Put a thermometer in the beaker and add 5.0 mL of 2M HCl to the beaker , and measure pH & conductivity & temperature change. 2. a. it is a yellowish green pH 5. b.it is a light greenish pH 5. c.Flashing there are electrolyets d. The solution turned from purple pink to clear when we added HCl to it. There was a temperature change from 23.0 to 25.0.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Change 5. HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) H2O(l) + NaCl(aq) -neatralization

C. Pour a small scoop of CaCO3 (about 1-2 grams) into the same beaker from the reaction in section B. 2. We put CaCO3 and it started to bubble up and the CaCO3 sunk to the bottom.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Change 5. HCl(aq) + CaCO3(s) CO2(g) + H2O(l)+ CaCl2(aq)

D. Obtain a shiny piece of copper and a pair of tongs, hold the piece of copper up to a flame with tongs. 2. The shiny piece of copper melted and turned the flame into a greenish color and at the top a little ball was created.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Change 5. 2Cu+O22CuO

E. Place a small scoop (about 2 grams) of sucrose (C12H22O11) into a crucible and heat it over Bunsen burner. 2. The sugar in the crucible got burnt by the flame and the sugar melted into a brown color. Also, there is a sweet smell.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Change 5. C12H22O116C2+11H2O (balance)

F. Observe the burning Bunsen Burner.

2. The flame turned blue and the inner layer of the flame is orange. (Combustion reaction)

3.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Change 5. C3H8(g) + O2(g) CO2(g) + H2O(g)

G. Pour Sodium Iodide into a test tube with around 20mL of DI water. Add Lead (II) Nitrate to the test tube. 2. When we put Sodium Iodide into a test tube with distilled water the water became a little fuzzy. After that we added lead (II) nitrate to the test tube and it became a yellow color.

4. Type of Reaction: Chemical Reaction 5. 2NaI(aq)+Pb(No3)2(aq)2Na(No3)+PbI2
