For Information about the Sacraments

Baptism
Baptismal Preparation for parents and godparents: 7 8:30 pm the last Monday of the month. Call for Reservations. Baptisms are usually the first Sunday of the month.

Anointing of the Sick

Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lords special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

Reconciliation and First Eucharist

Preparation for children who have attained the age of reason (usually during 2nd grade) is arranged either through the Office of Religious Education or St. Rita Elementary School.

Matrimony

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One

Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest; sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

Confirmation
A two-year program for freshman/sophomore age teens. Apply through the Office of Religious Education.

NOTE: Adult applicants for the sacraments should contact the Parish Office.

Anointing of the Sick See adjoining column.

PASTORS CORNER
Dear Parishioners,
Jesus speaks in todays gospel passage about the infamous END OF TIME. What do you make of that?

All that you see here the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.
Our autumn time meditation on the last things continues. The end is near is a recurring theme throughout the New Testament. St. Paul is very insistent on the point and only backs off from it in his later writings. The Lord comes to judge the Earth with justice proclaims our responsorial. Our end, then, will come with judgment, just to make us even more nervous about THE END. The Book of Malachi that was supposed to prepare us for the Gospel has the last day coming blazing like an oven to make all evildoers stubble and to set them on fire. With all of the doom and gloom signs that surround us from wars without and division within, it is very tempting to read the signs of the times as warnings that THE END may be near. But if I were you, I wouldnt purchase a ticket on the next available commercial space tour to watch the end of the worldjust yet. A little bit of research reveals that what Scripture is referring to as signs and the end are to be understood as apocalyptic. That is to say, these scriptures refer to a typical prophetical view that recognizes God as The Lord of Historyall and everyones history for all times! In this manner of speaking and understanding, one could be referring to the end of history as it is perceived at the time or the end of all history. So when prophets speak of the end, they are almost always doing so to simply undercut and put emphasis on a far more significant message: BE VIGILANT!BE PREPARED! So all is NOT lost. Even Malachi throws us a bone: But for you who fear my name, there will arise the sun of justice with the healing rays. And Jesus assures us: By your perseverance you will secure your lives. So after we have understood that Scripture is not to be misinterpreted superstitiously, we must nevertheless tap the reality factor and admit that I do not know the day or the hour of my own reckoning, so I absolutely should be vigilant and prepared. I should shape up! There you have it.

THE END, Msgr. Richard

Pastors Notes
This weekend we will take up a special second collection for disaster relief to help the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on November 7, 2013. It is estimated there have been 10,000 fatalities and more than half a million people displaced as a result of this catastrophe. Many people are assumed to be staying in open areas without shelter. These numbers are expected to increase as more information becomes available. We continue to pray for all the victims and their families.

persistent, unwelcome behavior in the form of criticism, isolation, or fabricated allegations that can damage relationships. Examples include social exclusion (You cant be with us), spreading rumors (Did you hear?), and withholding friendship (I wont be your friend if you). Though relational bullying can often seem ambiguous to outside observers, and often garners less attention than physical bullying or verbal bullying, it should not be discounted as simply normal adolescent behavior. In fact, several recent studies suggest relational bullying is more strongly related to emotional distress and teen depression than any other form of bullying. Make sure your childs school does not tolerate such behavior among its students. Office of Safeguard the Children La-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/safeguard

Stewards of God's gifts are not passive beneficiaries. We cooperate with God in our own redemption and in the redemption of others. We are also obliged to be stewards of the Churchcollaborators and cooperators in continuing the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which is the Church's essential mission. This mission proclaiming and teaching, serving and sanctifyingis our task. It is the personal responsibility of each one of us as stewards of the Church. All members of the Church have their own roles to play in carrying out its mission: Parents, who nurture their children in the light of faith; Parishioners, who work in concrete ways to make their parishes true communities of faith and vibrant sources of service to the larger community; All Catholics, who give generous supporttime, money, prayers, and personal service according to their circumstancesto parish and diocesan programs and to the universal Church.
