Corregidor Island: A travel back into time

Corregidor Island is one of those places that Ive been dreaming of to visit for the longest time. Ive watched different travel documentaries, seen creative photos from several travel bloggers about how beautiful the Corregidor Island was. However, I would not categorize myself as a history buff but funny, how I was always amazed by factual remains of historical places and ruins that witnessed how rich and at the same time how beautiful Philippine history is. Corregidor Island also known as !he "ock# is a small rocky island in the Philippines which is part of the municipality of Cavite and not $ataan. %uite interestingly about it, was, the island is shaped like a tadpole. This island fortress stands as a memorial for the courage, valor and heroism of its Filipino and American defenders during World War II. !he College of &IH' got the opportunity to finally visit the island, and lucky me( Im a !ourism student( It was through a tour package that was organized by 'rs. Beah( /e were luckily guided by our genius tour facilitator and at the same time he shared some e.citing, hidden and creepy stories that can make your patriotic bloodline alive( <nd to think that we were luckily borne in this peacetime. Probably my favorite places were 'alinta !unnel and &panish )ight House. I saw 'alinta !unnel several times on television and I really loved the creepy ambience there. It seems that it was a challenge for me to go there. 'y creepy soul became more eager and e.cited when I got the opportunity to go there. 'alinta !unnel was used as storage of bombs and office of higher officials like late Pres. 'anuel %uezon and later became hospital and also served as the secret passageway that =en. 'c<rthur used to escape Corregidor where I think was also place where he uttered his 5 famous words #I shall return#. <nother place that I really loved was the &panish )ight House. /e were given a chance to climb at the top of the lighthouse and we took ;- steps up and a very steep stairs above which is nearly :- degrees angle that need to be trekked first. &ince we were really eager and e.cited to see the overlooking view at the top, we took the opportunity and viola( It feels like heaven when we saw the beautiful scenery of Corregidor Island. 1ver8all, it was a tour that full of knowledge, fun and wisdom( <mazingly, how Corregidor Island became a moving story island where everything around tells stories behind those ruins and how wrath of war destroyed many innocent lives. /e should take =en. 'c<rthur message in our mind , It is my earnest hope and indeed the hope of all mankind that a better world shall emerge out of the blood and carnage of the past a world founded upon faith and understanding, a world dedicated to the dignity of man and the fulfilment of his most cherished wish for freedom, tolerance and justice. # Finally, I can say that our tour in Corregidor Island was truly a travel back into time.
