Victims
The Kurds- a group of Iranian people speaking Kurdish languages inhabiting Iraq- were the targeted class by the Al-Anfal squad. Kurdish men, aged 18 and older, were sought after more by the offenders supporting the claim that it was a gendercide took place as well as a genocide. There was an estimated death toll of 50,000 victims; however, casualties may exceed to about 100,000 deaths.

Perpetrators
Saddam Hussein- the president in Iraq during the time- was the main perpetrator. He encouraged and supported the campaign by legally granting permission to start the genocide. The military committed the atrocities during the Al-Anfal Campaign. Overall the government had the power and authority to cause such tragedies to the Kurdish people.

The Al-Anfal Campaign lasted from 1986 to 1988. The campaign was to diminish all Kurds in Iraq. In order to do this they used aerial bombing, chemical warfare, and mass deportation. The Al- Anfal Campaign occurred in Iraq.

Attempts to Stop Attacks


There were no attempts to stop the genocide due to the fact that there was an Iran-Iraq war in place at the time Saddam Hussein granted general amnesty to the Kurdish people in September 1988, but only after 90% of their towns had been completely wiped off the map Saddam Hussein was executed in 2006

Ending of Al-Anfal
No one fought to end the Genocide Saddams regime declared an amnesty for all of the surviving Kurds. Some Kurds were never released from the prisons. But, the Kurds that were released were not allowed to go into prohibited zones
