Important info...
Dear Family and Friends of DFC,

What a message Dr. Bob delivered this past Sunday: “The Benefits of Being a
Giver.” Throughout this past week, many have made reference to this message.
Can you imagine what unbounded service would flow from a congregation of
Givers? Friends, there are good days ahead as we odebiently follow God’s call
on our lives!

On Sunday, August 16, Dr. Bob will continue his series of messages. we will cele-
brate Communion and, at the same time, give lavishly to those in need with our
gifts of the hygiene packs. Let’s be preposterously generous in blessing those in
need with these gifts! On Sunday, August 23, our guest speaker will be Dr. David
Ralph, Colorado Nazarene District Superintendent. On August 30, our guest
speaker will be Dr. Jim Diehl, General Superintendent Emeritus of the Church of
the Nazarene.

• Thank you to everyone for your participation in the Celebrate Recovery

fundraiser last Sunday. Thank you to those who served in the fundraiser itself
and also those who made donations to Celebrate Recovery. We
appreciate everyone’s involvement and also those who served.

• This past Sunday, Pinky Sloan presented the opportunity to participate in our
support of the Gideon ministry. As a congregation, we celebrated the
good news of how the Gospel is being spread through the written Word of
God. Our support was more than lip service; a generous offering of $1580
was given by you toward this worthy cause. Thank you!

• We received the following note via our website –

Almost every Sunday a member of your congregations brings by several

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

There is a question I've been asking myself recently. It's actually a two-part question:
Just how personal is my relationship with my Father, and how does that relationship
manifest itself in my daily life through the resources He has provided me? Every day
there are certainly people around me who don't know the Lord is offering exactly what
they have searched for their entire lives. Am I making His presence visible in my life as
something attractive to those around me? We at DFC are focusing on maximizing our
effectiveness as witnesses to the world around us in these days ripe for the harvest!

It all starts with my recognition of the inestimable gift of salvation I've received from my
Lord, Jesus Christ. It is all too easy for my awareness of my need for Him to ebb and for
me to begin to focus on others' need for Him. Don't get me wrong. I must be
concerned about getting the Gospel out to others! But I can only do this effectively
when I remain sensitive to my own need for a Savior. If that awareness dwindles, I
immediately become judgmental and am rendered ineffective in the cause of Christ.

Max Lucado points out that the first time the apostles are recorded to have worshiped
Jesus was after He rescued them from the storm (Matthew 14:33). Until that point, they
had marveled at the miracles He performed and they even believed He was the Son of
God. But when it became personal and they were the ones in direct need of His touch,
they worshiped Him.

Understanding how it is that I may enjoy the relationship I have with my Father, I can
maintain the necessary perspective to be useful clay in His hands. Through the
exercising of the gifts, talents and resources He has provided, I can be effective at
revealing Him in the opportunities in which He places me.

It is the recognition of these gifts and talents along with how best to apply them that we
will be focusing on in the near future. We will soon reveal a church-wide emphasis to
help each one of us at DFC realize our strengths and how to apply them. The whole
point of this effort will be to help us be that effective body described in 1 Corinthians 12.
Imagine a congregation where each person is operating within their own giftedness.
Imagine knowing you are doing what you were created to do. Imagine being a part of
such a church. Let it be our prayer that we won't simply imagine it, but we will realize it!

• As a congregation, we extend our condolences to Pastor Stearman,

Jane, and their entire family over the passing of Tim’s father this past
week. As information regarding the memorial service is received, the
information will be forwarded to our congregation. Please keep
Pastor Tim and his family in your prayers.

• Whether you ride a Hog or you don’t, please participate in our annual
Ride & Provide event. It will be held Friday, August 21 - Sunday, August
23 to bless the Suyen’s congregation at Denver Family Church.
People of every skill level and expertise are needed to complete the
following projects: landscaping, carpentry, roofing, carpet, fence
building, painting, and miscellaneous repairs on the church and
parsonage. Cost is $25 to cover meals. If possible, please contribute
$125 to help cover materials costs. No one will be turned away no
matter what you are able to contribute! (Money is due by August 16th
with registration form.) You can find registration forms at the Missions

• Women of Faith conference – September 25 & 26 – at the Pepsi

Center. Normally, tickets are $74 - $89, but, WE HAVE RECEIVED a

A Happy Heart

Several years ago I had a teammate who, whenever she caught her students
doing the right thing, would say, “You just made my heart smile”. Last Sunday my
heart was smiling and here’s why…

First, as the fourth grade Sunday School teacher led a discussion on the story of
Lazarus, she took a purposeful sidetrack and asked a couple of questions about
the birth of Jesus. She asked the children if they knew why baby Jesus had
received gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. As she explained what each gift
represented in Jesus’ life, a huge light bulb clicked on in a fourth grader’s mind.
He sat straight up in his chair, his eyes became the size of saucers, and he said, “I
never thought about it that way before. I just thought the wisemen were bringing
presents for the new baby. Wow! That’s cool.”

Second, during prayer requests, another fourth grader eagerly asked the class to
pray for a family member. Whereas this child clearly understood the healing
process that had been explained by a medical doctor, this child had an even
deeper understanding of how the great physician was in control.

Third, when the elementary age children gathered for Children’s Church, a first
grader who had attended all five nights of Vacation Bible School was sitting on the
front row of the bleachers. VBS was her first encounter with our church yet there
she was joining right in with the other kids and feeling at home.

These are three examples of what made the heart of one volunteer smile.
Imagine what we would learn if every volunteer in the Children’s Department
shared examples from their morning in the Adventure Zone!

For the next few weeks, the church offices will be repairing the damage
caused by the hailstorm on June 7th. This will include removing damaged
wallpaper, drywall prep and painting, along with moving furniture in and out
of offices to make way for new carpet. We are looking for volunteers that
can help with this. If you would be able to volunteer between the hours of
8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, sometime over the next few

would be available to help.
