Maintenance
WARNING
During operation of electrical equipment and switchgear certain parts are live and hazardous voltages are therefore present, and mechanical components may move quickly, even remotely controlled. Non-observance of the safety instructions and warnings can result in severe personal injury or property damage. Only qualified personnel should work on or in the vicinity of this equipment and switchgear. Such personnel must become thoroughly familiar with all warnings contained in these instructions. The successful and safe operation of this switchgear is dependent on proper transport, storage, installation and erection and also on diligent operation and maintenance. It is advisable to call on the support of the competent Siemens Service Centres for planning, erection, commissioning and maintenance work. Setting-up and operation of this switchgear are conditional on observance of the following DIN VDE / IEC specifications: DIN VDE 0100 / IEC 60364; DIN VDE 0101; DIN VDE 0105.

1 Preventive maintenance
1.1 Inspection schedule (maintenance is recommended according to following intervals)

Every five years

WARNING
Isolate the switchgear, secure it against reclosing, check safe isolation from supply, earth and shortcircuit the outgoing feeders (DIN VDE 0105). The busbar must also be earthed and short-circuited if it is planned to work in the busbar compartment. Ensure that the bolts at the current transformer are tight (Figure 2). Every ten years (or at the users discretion)

Maintain and care for the installed equipment, e.g. circuit-breakers, voltage transformers, meters, protective devices etc., in accordance with the information contained in the respective operating instructions. Commercially available tools are adequate for maintenance. Perform commissioning in accordance with the installation instructions after maintenance. Maintenance and care are required at shorter intervals (at the users discretion) in dusty conditions or if the air is extremely humid and contaminated. Grease make-proof earthing switches after 500 switching operations: Refer to Operating Instructions "Lubricants " 8BX 31503GA00. Irrespective of the regular maintenance, the cause of faults and short circuits must be determined immediately and any damaged parts must be replaced.

WARNING
Isolate the switchgear, secure it against reclosing, check safe isolation from supply, earth and shortcircuit the outgoing feeders (DIN VDE 0105). The busbar must also be earthed and short-circuited if it is planned to work in the busbar compartment. Perform test operations with the circuit-breaker, vacuum switch and earthing switch. Clean the switchpanels, check highvoltage connections (terminals). Check the operating point of the limit switches for the motor operating mechanisms of the withdrawable sections. Check the switchpanel functions and put the switchgear back into operation.

CAUTION
Do not climb onto the panels!

Annually (at the users discretion) General visual inspection for damage, dust deposits, moisture and partial discharge noises. Check whether accessories are complete and in good condition (also central service truck).

Ensure that the bolts are tight

DANGER
High voltage! Touching the live parts will be lethal or will result in serious bodily injury. The equipment may be operated only by qualified personnel who are familiar with the instructions and who observe the warning information in particular.

Cleaning

1.2.1 Removing and fitting the air filter Air filter in the lower part of the highvoltage door (Figure 3) Undo the fixing bolts of the tension frame Remove the tension frame Clean the filter Refit in reverse order. Air filter in bottom duct (Figure 4) Air filter on the roof (Figures 5, 6, 7) Remove the withdrawable section. Panels with open-circuit ventilation Removal Undo the three nuts (6, Figure 5; accessible in the switch compartment) that support the air filter directly behind the rear wall of the low-voltage compartment (Figure 5), hold the air filter when undoing the last nut. Turn the detached longitudinal side down and remove the filter. Installation Align the air filter in the switch compartment so that the longitudinal side with the three holes is inclined and points at the low-voltage compartment. Place the longitudinal side without holes on the roof above the vertical partition wall. Turn the longitudinal side with the three holes to the top and bolt it tight.

Panels with open-circuit ventilation Removal Undo six fixing bolts (Figure 6) and pull the air filter out downwards. Installation Align the filter by the holes for the fixing bolts and according to the mounting position: plate with holes for fixing bolts horizontally, frame with wire-cloth slightly inclined to the right side-wall. Insert the air filter from the bottom to the top and bolt tight. Maintain the motor of the fan unit as described in the associated instructions "Ventilator/Fans"! Insert the withdrawable section and move it to the connected position.

1.2.2 Cleaning agents

WARNING
To protect employees and the environment, always follow the instructions on the cleaning agents!

ARAL 4005 or HAKU 1025/90 (contains hydrocarbons), brushes, cleaning rags, vacuum cleaner.

WARNING
Fire hazard! No smoking! Observe product descriptions and safety instructions!

CAUTION
Cleaning agents containing hydrocarbons must not be used for electrically stressed insulation parts, (e.g. epoxy resin). HAKU 5067 (contains alcohol) or water with household detergent is a suitable cleaning agent for epoxy resin parts.

1.3

Lubrication

Grease immediately after cleaning according to Operating Instructions "Lubricants " 8BX 3150-3GA00. Grease the central service truck spindle.

1.4

Checking the voltage indicator and the coupling section

Use only voltage indicators in accordance with E DIN VDE 0682, Teil 415/ IEC 1243-5. Function test of the coupling section in accordance with the maintenance instructions. Voltage indicator plugged in capacitive test sockets (L1, L2, L3) of the feeder or busbar concerned: V Indicator flashes or lights up: Feeder or busbar is live, V Indicator does not flash or light up: Feeder or busbar is not live. .

Voltage indicator (LRM system) The EURO-Test LRM (Pfisterer make) enables the function test of the LRM voltage indicator for capacitively decoupled voltages in accordance with VDE 0682 Part 415E/IEC 1243-5 on a mains socket 230 V AC 50 Hz. The EURO-Test LRM reproduces the minimum pick-up waves 2 A and 5 V required by the standard. Procedure: Plug EURO-Test LRM in mains socket (or socket for EURO-plug) 230 V AC 50 Hz. Plug in voltage indicator DSA-LRM. Indication: DSA-LRM flashes with a frequency of approx. 1 Hz.

Coupling section The function must be repeatedly tested and certified during inspections, latest after 6 years. The user of the switchgear is responsible for: Performance of the supervision Documentation of the supervision Repairing of defective / faulty permanent voltage indication systems Storage of documentation. The measured insulation resistance and current values described have to be documented in the report and confirmed by signature. In case of deviations, the repair, if applicable the replacement of parts, must be arranged with repeat test. The following tests are performed on the complete coupling section knowing the momentary phase-toearth voltage - in all three phases: Measuring the insulation resistance on the complete coupling section (incl. coaxial cable connection), Figure 9. Measuring point: Test sockets on the switchgear front, Figure 8. Test voltage: 90V The test is passed if the measured insulation resistance is > 20 M. The phase of the measuring point carrying the measuring voltage must be earthed through a resistance and an ammeter with a total impedance of: 2 M + 3% or 1600 pF, and the current must be measured (fgure10). Measuring point: Test sockets on the switchgear front, Figure 8. The test is passed if the measured current is >= 3.2 A. Note: These tests can be performed during switchgear operation as a function test! Voltage measurements at the test socket are not suitable for these checks! On electronic measuring instruments, observe the position of the earth side of the measuring instrument!

2 Corrective maintenance
2.1 Releasing the door interlock in case of emergency

WARNING

The interlock of the door of the high-voltage compartment should only be released if the withdrawable section cannot be racked to the disconnected position after a fault and the damage cannot be rectified in any other way. Safety measures: Isolate the switchgear in accordance with DIN VDE 0105.

Procedure: Perform steps 1 to 4 as shown in Figure 11.

Insert the hexagonal socket key (DIN 911-4) in the opening and turn it clockwise until the set screw falls out on the inside.

Insert the double-bit key in the lock and turn it counter.clockwise by 90.

Lift the door knob to the stop and open the door.

Firmly tighten the set screw again after repair. Close the eathing switch if necessary.

2.2

Emergency operation of the withdrawable section

a Insert the double-bit key in the lock.

WARNING
Safety measures: Before starting to work, isolate the switchgear, secure it against reclosing, check safe isolation from supply (DIN VDE 0105), earth and short-circuit it. Disconnect control voltages. Procedure: Switching device OFF. Release the interlock of the door of the switch compartment as described in section 2.1 for emergencies, and open the door. After completion of the emergency operation, refit the set screw (Figure 11, no. 4) of the door interlock on the door. Emergency: Releasing the electromagnetic interlock The withdrawable section must be moved from the connected to the disconnected position even though the auxiliary voltage for releasing the electromagnetic interlock is not available. Mounting location: When viewing from the front, the electromagnet is fitted on the withdrawable section on the left side in the traverse mechanism (Figure 12). Perform steps 1 to 5 as shown in Figure 12.

Emergency: Motor operating mechanism in intermediate position The withdrawable section must be racked out of a position between the connected and the disconnected position, even though the auxiliary voltage for racking the withdrawable section by motor is not available (Figure 13)

Insert a screwdriver through the opening of the carriage mechanism, release the latch . . .

. . . and simultaneously insert a second screwdriver through the opening to turn the toothed wascher until the withdrawable section reaches one of the two limitpositions .

2.3

Replacing fuse links

CAUTION
Suitable are fuse links with dimensions in accordance with DIN 43 625 and "medium" type striker pin in accordance with IEC 282-1. Move the withdrawable section onto the central service truck as described in the Operating Instructions, Section 2.4.1, unlock the central service truck from the panel. Remove the fuse links.

CAUTION
The fuse links may be hot! Turn out one clip on each end (Figure 14), push down the horizontally arranged fuse links out of the holders and remove them to the side. Select and align the new fuse links: The arrow must point at the tripping/signalling mechanism Push the new fuse links into the holders and secure with the clips (Figure 14).

3 Testing the switching devices with open door


3.1 Circuit-breaker

CAUTION
The circuit-breaker may be operated only with the original crank (Figure 15), in order to avoid injuries caused by the motor starting suddenly.

Procedure: Insert the hand crank through the opening (Figure 16) directly onto the circuit-breaker operating mechanism. Turn it clockwise until the symbol "Spring charged" appears in the inspection window. If the power supply for the motor returns during charging, there is no danger to the operator as the hand crank turns counter-clockwise with no load. Remove the hand crank. Closing and opening Locally using mechanical means, with pushbuttons; operate the pushbuttons "ON" and "OFF" directly on the withdrawable section (Figure 16);if necessary, charge the closing spring by hand when the low-voltage plug connector is disconnected from the withdrawable section. Electrically from the control room and, if necessary, locally with pushbuttons. If the control voltage fails, the circuitbreaker can always be switched off mechanically (see above).

CAUTION
The vacuum switch may be operated only with the original crank (Figure 18) in order to avoid injuries caused by the motor starting suddenly. Insert the hand crank through the opening directly onto the switch operating mechanism. Turn it clockwise until the symbol "Spring charged" appears in the inspection window. Remove the hand crank. Opening: Operate "OFF" pushbutton (Figure 17).

4 Appendix
4.1 Replacement of parts Required information when ordering spare parts for individual components and switchgear: Type and serial number of switchgear (cf. rating plate) Precise designation of the device or component, if applicable on the basis of the information and illustrations in the related instructions, a drawing, sketch or circuit diagram. 4.2 Disposal The 8BK20 switchgear is an environment compatible product. In disposal, priority must be given to re-use of the materials. The switchgear can be disposed of in environment compatible manner in compliance with existing legislation. The components of the switchgear can be recycled as mixed scrap, or, if it is dismantled as far as possible, in a more environmentally acceptable way as sorted scrap with a mixed-scrap residual portion. Electronic scrap must be disposed of in compliance with the applicable regulations. Materials: Steel, copper, aluminium, PTFE, casting resin, fibre-reinforced plastics, rubber materials, ceramic material and lubricants. As supplied by Siemens, the device contains no hazardous substances in the sense of the pertinent regulations in Germany. If the device is to be operated outside Germany, the locally applicable laws and regulations must be followed.
