Welcome to Good Shepherd Chapel

the Feast of Christ the King. The Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is shown to be King and Savior of all. Luke's Gospel has been loaded with surprises: the poor are First Reading: 2 Samuel 5:1-3 rich, sinners find salvation, the Kingdom of God is found in our David is anointed king. midst. Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted Second Reading: Colossians 1:12-20 with the crucified Jesus, whom faith tells us is King and Savior of Hymn to Jesus as the first-born of all creation. all. The irony is that the inscription placed on the cross, perhaps in Gospel Reading: Luke 23:35-43 mockery, contains the profoundest of truth. As the leaders jeer, the Jesus is crucified under the title King of the thief crucified by his side recognizes Jesus as Messiah and King, Jews. and finds salvation. Jesus is King, but not the kind of king we might have imagined or expected. His kingship was hidden from many of his contemporaries, but those who had the eyes of faith were able to see. As modern disciples of Jesus, we, too, struggle at times to recognize Jesus as King. Today's Gospel invites us to make our own judgment. With eyes of faith, we, too, recognize that Jesus, the crucified One, is indeed King and Savior of all. Retrieved from http://www.loyolapress.com

The minister will come to your home or the hospital and offer with you a communion service that will help prepare you for receiving our Lord in the Eucharist. You can even help plan the service if you wish, by choosing the readings or by including your family or caretaker. It is a wonderful way for you and us to be a living part of the faith community and fulfill Jesus desire to come to you even in your sickness and suffering. We invite you to take advantage of this. All you need to do is contact the parish office and ask that you be put on the Pastoral Care Visit List and one of the ministers will give you a call to set up a time to visit. Also, Fr. Joseph is always available to celebrate the sacraments of penance or anointing of the sick; all you need to do is call the PLC office and make arrangements. We are here to serve (706) 791-4829 or plc@saintmichaelparishfg.org

Movie Review
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
By John Mulderig Catholic News Service
NEW YORK (CNS) -- The time has come, it seems, to return to Panem, the dystopian North American nation that provides the setting for the satisfying action sequel "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (Lionsgate), just as it did for the 2012 first installment in the series. Should they decide to make the return trip, moviegoers will find that, in adapting the second volume in Suzanne Collins' best-selling trilogy of novels, director Francis Lawrence has decreased the intensity of the violence on screen. And his film's moral center is solid. On the other hand, Simon Beaufoy and Michael deBruyn's script includes a few vulgarities and at least one sexual flourish not found in the original. So parents will once again need to consider carefully whether this is suitable fare for the targeted demographic of teens. As viewers of the kickoff will know, together with her friend, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), franchise heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) managed to emerge victorious from the ordeal of the titular tournament. This annual event sees youngsters drawn at random from the ranks of Panem's oppressed underclass forced to battle to the death for the entertainment of their society's pampered elite. But it was an act of defiance that led to Katniss and Peeta's shared triumph: Told that only one of them could survive, they threatened simultaneous suicide so there would be no victor, and the authorities relented. This successful stratagem has made Katniss a symbol of resistance to the downtrodden. With rebellion stirring, Panem's President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is determined to use Katniss as a pawn in his plans for a repressive power play. Conniving along with him is Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the new supervisor of the games. Katniss and Peeta rely, once again, on the help of Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) a hard-drinking veteran of the deadly contest who prepared them for combat last time, and on that of Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), the kind-hearted guide assigned to watch over them when they were first selected. An unexpected turn of events brings the audience back to the fatal arena for what might be called an all-star version of the Hunger Games. It also resurrects the question why young people would want to flock to such a spectacle, even in fictional form. The dark theme underlying the proceedings, together with the elements listed below, makes this a safer bet for grownups -- though it may possibly be acceptable for mature adolescents. The film contains much action violence with occasional gore, a scene of torture, a sexually provocative act with implied nudity, a couple of bleeped-over rough terms, at least one crude expression and a few crass phrases. The Catholic News Service classification is A-III -- adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 -- parents strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Retrieved from http://www.catholicnews.com/

PARISH REGISTRATION
We strongly encourage those who participate regularly in the life of our Faith Community to register with us. It gives a visible witness to your sacrificial giving and support of your parish. For those who wish to make St. Michaels their parish family with future plans to celebrate a baptism, a wedding or obtain a letter to be a godparent or sponsor, it is necessary to be formally registered and actively participating on a regular basis for at least three months before dates can be set or letters can be written. Registration forms can be found in the parish office or printed from our website.

St. Michaels Book of the Dead

Praying for the dead is a Christian obligation. In the modern world, when many have come to doubt the Church's teaching on Purgatory, the need for such prayers has only increased. The Church devotes the month of November to prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and participation in the Mass of All Souls Day is a good way to begin the month. The Book of the Dead will be at the main entrance of the chapel beginning November 1st. Please enter the names of your beloved dead. We will lift them in prayer at each mass.

DESIGNATED OFFERING
St. Michaels is conducting a designated offering on December 7 -8 for the Philippines Typhoon Relief. Please know that this offering was requested by St Michaels Parish Council and approved by the CPBAC this month.
Parish Council Financial Advisor, Al Calvi

Attention EMEs, Lectors and Ushers

The parish has recently purchased a new software to make easier to update online our liturgical schedules, and ministry coverage in case of need. This new tool requires ministers to have access to Internet. As we begin with this transition, we ask you to confirm your email address with the Liturgy Schedule coordinator, Brian Musha. Having your accurate email is essential to communicate with you. Thank you in advance for your help! Please, send your email to Mr. Musha, lemuschedule@saintmichaelparihsfg.org

Requesting Sacramental Certification through the Military Archdiocese

Unlike a conventional diocese, the Archdiocese of the Military Services (AMS) has no parishes or parish registries. Because military chapels are United States Government property, the maintenance of all records of sacraments performed on U.S. Military Installations are maintained by the AMS. This starkly contrasts the model used in diocesan parishes where all sacraments are recorded in the parish registry. The AMS currently maintains over 2.6 million records of sacraments performed on military installations" (Retrieved from http://www.milarch.org).

Pastoral Visitations
There is simply no place more appropriate than the home for pastors to interact with their parishioners in a personal manner. And this holds true whether such interaction is for the purpose of leading a person to Christ, reclaiming a lost soul, or offering support and guidance. For this reason, our Pastor, Father Joseph would like to start Pastoral Visitations to give parishioners the opportunity of meeting and knowing him. He would like to visit parishioners homes twice a week, so if you are interested in receiving the special visit of our Pastor, please contact the PLC Lola Rivera to schedule a Pastoral visitation @ (706) 791-4829, or plc@saintmichaelparishfg.org. Father Joseph is looking forward to visit your home, talk and pray with you and your family in earnestness and humility.

Matrimony
Arrangements for marriage preparation should be made at least six months in advance of the proposed date. If there has been a prior marriage that has not been annulled by the Catholic Church, more time may be required. Participation in a marriage preparation workshop/program is required. Initially, all requests of information should be directed to the Catholic Pastor at (267) 243-5861.

Confessions
Private confessions at St. Michaels are available for you before Mass on Saturdays 4pm and Sundays at 8am in the confessional box located in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, but also face-to-face and by appointment at your convenience. Confessions are available in Spanish when Father Joseph celebrates mass.
