The Scientic Method

Question/Problem Hypothesis Materials Method Observations Conclusion Evaluation Variables Bias Theory Law

Question/Problem

What is the problem in the method! Brain pop ! ! Needs to be measure able ! Science buddy.org!

Inference/Hypothesis
The thing that you have to make the expriment

INFERENCE! A conclusion about our observations! ! HYPOTHESIS! Is a testable explanation for the details you observe ! ! Brain pop !

Materials

Method/Experiment

Your experiment tests whether your hypothesis is supported or not. Your experiment tests whether your hypothesis is supported or not.! http://www.sciencebuddies.org!

Observations

An educated guess! Brain pop !

Conclusion

The ending hypothesis ! ! From what you gured out make a conclusion ! ! Brain pop!

Evaluation

Variables

The difference in the experiment which will make the answer! Brain pop !

Bias

Theory

Is an explanatory statement that's been repeatedly conrmed though experimental testing

Law
A law generalizes a body of observations. At the time it is made, no exceptions have been found to a law. Scientic laws explain things, but they do not describe them. One way to tell a law and a theory apart is to ask if the description gives you a means to explain 'why'. ! http://chemistry.about.com/od/! chemistry101/a/lawtheory.htm

Eggsperiment!

Problem How to tell the difference with a cooked and raw egg ! Observation One egg is cooked. They all feel the same. Finally we tried shaking the eggs. Biassed on what we think we know what the cooked egg is. !

Hypothesis A cooked egg spins badly and a raw egg spins very well Materials 2 raw eggs! 1 cooked egg! Hard surface!

Method Spin each of the eggs on a hard surface observe and record the results ! Observations One egg spines very quickly. There is a very slow egg also.

Evaluation We should have more eggs one soft one hard one raw

Conclusion! It probably was the second egg because the egg was spinning very well. Because the other two did not spin well. !

Floating paper clips Problem Does the size of an object affect the buoyancy of that object! Hypothesis The smaller the paper clip will take less space in the bowl and oat better! Materials Water bowl paper clips one small one big Method Fill the bowl with water. Take both paper clips and carefully put them in the waters repeat the experiment! Observations The paper clips oat on water. They must be made of aluminium !

Observations The big paper clips did not oat. The small ones oated for a minute then sank

Conclusion My hypothesis was right the big ones did not oat. This was a wet experiment for sure. I can't wait for the next one.!

Evaluation We could put towels around the bowl to not make a mess. We could have something to pick up the paper clips to not make them fall.!

Methane! Problem! Does adding garlic in cows food affect the amount of methane they produce? Hypothesis! They will fart cleaner air because of the Garlic in their digestion system.! Materials! Big plastic tube Monitoring machine Thermal camera Garlic! Cow food

Method! Inate the tube put the cow in. Connect the machine to the tube. Set up the thermal camera facing the mouth and the butt. Do the same thing with three more cows. Feed two cows with normal food and with the other two add Garlic to their food. Monitor your results and repeat the experiment 3 times for three weeks!

Detergent! Problem Which detergent is the best for cleaning stains? Materials! Coffee, ketchup,BBQ Sauce, grass white fabric, washing machine 5 washing detergent brad boxes (full box)!

Method Get ve pieces of white fabric and label them with like A,B,C,D,E. Use the grass rub it to make a green mark(top right corner). Pour the BBQ sauce(top left corner),ketchup( bottom right corner) and coffee( bottom left corner) on the fabric. Let it dry. Stain all of them. Put one of the pieces of fabric in the washing machine put some of one of the washing detergents in the washing machine. Wait till it's done. Do the same with different detergents. To know which one is the best. The one that looks the cleanest is the winner.!

! Problem/Question! How much baking soda and vinegar is needed for it to make enough pressure to make the rocket y vertically?! Hypothesis! It would explode or y depending on the pressure level caused by the reaction of the baking soda and vinegar.! Materials! @a"lm canister! ! ! ! @baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)! ! ! ! @vinegar (any kind will work, but white vinegar is easiest to clean up)! ! ! ! @an ice cream stick or teaspoon! ! ! ! @a"plate, saucer, tray or similar! ! ! ! @eye protection (glasses, sun glasses"or safety goggles)! ! ! ! @an adult.

Method/Experiment ! First, put on eye protection. Second, practice putting the cap on and off. Third, put about 5 millilitres of vinegar into the canister ( this is a variable change the amounts to see if it goes higher or if it explodes ). Fourth, ll the rest of space left in the canister with the baking soda (using a teaspoon or ice cream stick). Fifth, close the cap and seal it. Sixth take cover.!

Observations ! The rocket will gush out foam and make a big mess. It will make a big pop.
