Growing Vegetable Soup by Lois Ehlert In the story "Growing Vegetable Soup," a father and a child work together to grow a vegetable garden. They plant, water and watch the seeds grow. Once all the vegetables are ready to harvest, they cook up the cabbage, to atoes, corn and potatoes to ake their very own vegetable soup.
Charlotte takes care of her spider plant by watering it each day. Outside, the children worked with the teachers to prepare the soil for planting. $ager volunteers helped crush up dirtballs and stu bled upon a few wor s and other insects% Generous donations of bedding plants, seeds and soil fro the center fa ilies and staff added to the already sprouting perennials. The children carefully handled the fragile, s all plants as they helped find places for the in the garden. The children were interested in the different si#es and shapes of the seeds as they gently placed the on the ground and covered the with soil. "s the days and weeks passed the children watched as the plants changed and grew. The teachers taught the children the na es of the flowers, plants and herbs. So e children learned to identify several different plants by na e. Others proudly told their class ates of their ho e garden e&periences and reported the progress of flowers or vegetables growing at ho e. Volunteers with s all watering cans and spray bottles watered the plants. $ven on rainy days, the children re inded each other that the rain is good for the plants.

This is a wonderful portrayal of different fruits and vegetables that children can identify while learning letter recognition. My Daddy is a Pretzel by: Baron Baptiste Yoga is a great way to strengthen your body. This book offers children an opportunity to be exposed to nine different Yoga poses while learning about different professions. The book teaches children to strengthen their bodies and their minds. This is another featured book in the Toddler 2 classroom article.
Stay Connected
One afternoon in July, the Preschool 2 students woke from a nap and were told that they would be har esting their afternoon snack from the garden! The class went outside and each child took a turn using small scissors to cut green beans from the ine. The class counted, washed and cooked the beans before eating them with their oatmeal cookies for an afternoon snack. "any of the children continued to ask for another taste of green beans before they e en finished their cookie!

Ranbir acclimates himself to the water after weeks of observing his peers. He uses the floating backpack, and the floatation dumbbell to gain confidence in the water. Sprinkler Park -es .laines Child -e/elopment Center has been partnering with the 0olf !aine .ark -istrict for o/er two years and we ha/e enjoyed their sprinkler park! Children are encouraged to e1plore the sprays, sprinklers and water jets while ha/ing fun in the sun. The children learn about staying fit and acti/e by walking to and from the park, staying acti/e in the sprinklers and jets and get to play at the local playground.
