OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT
The naval electronic environment is becoming denser and more complex, the emitters more and more difficult to detect, analyse, locate and identify. Today's ESM systems have to deal with the multiple and complex characteristics of modern radar signals: multi-mode emitters, low Effective Radiated Power (ERP), agility (frequency, pulse repetition ...), high pulse repetition mode (pulse doppler emitters), complex scan, fleeting emissions and other LPI characteristics. As a primary sensor, VIGILE is the key component of the EW suite. It is fully integrated in the Combat System and participates to situation awareness, self protection and ELINT(Fine Grain Analysis). In multi-ship, network-enabled operations it is a major contributor to enhanced operational awareness.
