The master's program in translation will train highly qualified translators that will be experts in establishing communication primarily between members of various cultures and languages !uccessful completion of the program will enable translators to professionally meet current mar"et demands and enable them to adapt to the future needs of the translation mar"et #olders of master$s degrees will have a high level of competence in translating various types of texts from two foreign languages in various areas such as economics, law, the natural sciences, the social sciences, electronic media, computer science, or texts for the arts and social sciences and literary texts They will acquire the s"ills to edit and format texts for the needs of public and private institutions at both the national and international levels, will be trained for wor" with terminology and computer%aided translation, and they will also acquire the competence to edit various types of technical texts in line with the specific conventions of the target language The master$s program will thus train translators in technical and literary translation, subtitling, locali&ation, computer%aided translation, lexicography, and wor" with terminology 't the same time, the program will ensure a high level of competence in translation theory so that those holding a master$s degree will be able to form their own understanding of theoretical principles and assess them, apply them to their wor", and identify and solve the problems that they will encounter in their wor" as professional translators (eneral competences) #igh%level spo"en and written communication s"ills* +apability and s"ill for teamwor"* !"ill for the independent acquisition of "nowledge* +apability for lifelong learning in an information%based society* #igh%level capability for analysis, synthesis, and anticipating solutions and their consequences* +apability for developing their own research techniques and problem%solving approach* +apability for using information and communication technology* ,astery of research methods, procedures, and processes* +apability for ma"ing critical and self%critical judgments* +apability for ethical reflection and commitment to professional ethics* +apability for operating independently in the profession* +apability for developing critical thought !ubject%specific competences) 'wareness and mastery of translation strategies and techniques* +apability for describing and theoretically analy&ing translation processes* +apability for recogni&ing the complexity of empirical studies with theoretical premises in translation studies* +apability for recogni&ing basic texts and theoretical points of departure in the history of translation theory* +apability for forming an independent perspective on the status of a translation, the translator, and translating* +apability for using translation tools* Lexical competence in !lovenian and two foreign languages with regard to specific lexical and communication conventions* +apability for recogni&ing and analy&ing lexical comprehension processes in society*

'dditional subject%specific competences are given in the form for the syllabus for each subject separately E"ro!!me"& o"#i&io"s a"# se!e &io" ri&eria (or !imi&e# e"ro!!me"& The enrollment conditions conform to the !tatute of the University of Ljubljana, 'rticle --. of which states that persons that have completed the following may enroll in a master's program) - ' first%level /undergraduate0 program in a suitable subject area, as defined by the master's program* - ' first%level /undergraduate0 program in another subject area with the completion of -1 to 21 credits of academic requirements essential for further study and as defined by the academic program before enrollment 'pplicants can also meet the requirements under the second indent of the preceding paragraph during first%level /undergraduate0 study in remedial programs or by ta"ing placement tests before enrollment in the master's program The following may enroll in the master's program in translation) - 'ny holder of an undergraduate degree in a program in interlingual communication in a suitable area with regard to the trac" they select in the master's program /the language selected for the master's program must agree with the language selected for undergraduate study0* - The holder of an undergraduate degree in any field, including undergraduate programs designed in line with the 3ologna guidelines or those that were designed before higher educational reforms* applicants must ta"e a test to verify their language ability in !lovenian and two foreign languages /depending on the trac" they wish to follow0* based on abilities acquired during undergraduate study and test results, applicants may be awarded or have recogni&ed up to 21 +4 +riteria for limited enrollment) - Undergraduate grade point average /5160 - (rade on undergraduate comprehensive exam or undergraduate thesis /5160 - Undergraduate grade point average in !lovenian or score for !lovenian on the test cited in the second indent /-760 - Undergraduate grade point average in 8nglish or score for 8nglish on the test cited in the second indent /-760 - Undergraduate grade point average in second foreign language or score for second foreign language on the test cited in the second indent /-760 - 9ublished wor"s and awards /-760 The precise conditions for each year are published in the Invitation for Enrollment, prepared by the ,inistry of #igher 8ducation, !cience, and Technology )ri&eria (or re og"i*i"g +"o,!e#ge a"# s+i!!s a -$ire# prior &o e"ro!!me"& i" &he program The second%level /master's0 university program in translation shall also ta"e into account "nowledge and s"ills acquired prior to enrollment through various forms of formal and informal education !tudents shall provide certificates or other documents attesting to "nowledge acquired through various types of formal education that clearly show the content and amount of wor" the student has invested so that credits can be awarded for "nowledge and s"ills !tudents may receive up to 2 credits that may substitute for external electives in the program The head committee of the Department of Translation at the University of

Department of Translation, University of Ljubljana Ljubljana$s :aculty of 'rts shall ma"e a decision on recogni&ing and crediting such "nowledge and s"ills on the basis of students$ individual applications :or "nowledge received on the basis of attested documents for informal education or portfolios /projects, competition entries, inventions, patents, publications, etc 0 students may be recogni&ed up to 2 credits that may substitute for external electives in the program The head committee of the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana$s :aculty of 'rts shall ma"e a decision on recogni&ing and crediting such "nowledge on the basis of students$ individual applications !tudents that have published articles in scholarly journals recogni&ed as relevant to the profession /see attached list0 may request the recognition of an article in place of a master's thesis /-7 +40 The head committee of the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana$s :aculty of 'rts shall ma"e a decision on recogni&ing and crediting such material on the basis of students$ individual applications !tudents may also request the recognition of the content of translation practice /2 +40 on the basis of proof of having done applied translation wor" The head committee of the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana$s :aculty of 'rts shall ma"e a decision on recogni&ing and crediting such material on the basis of students$ individual applications !tudents may thus receive credit for a total of 5. +4 or 55 76 of the academic program The academic requirements of students in the second%level /master's0 university program in translation may be recogni&ed within all parts of the academic program in part or in whole on the basis of wor" experience and professional references attested through a portfolio The recognition of academic requirements is at the discretion of course coordinators The head committee of the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana$s :aculty of 'rts shall ma"e a decision on recogni&ing and crediting such material on the basis of students$ individual applications and the written opinions of coordinators of individual courses The provisions for the recognition of "nowledge and s"ills acquired prior to enrollment in the academic program shall also be ta"en into account, mutatis mutandis, for the recognition of "nowledge and s"ills acquired during study if this is agreed upon in advance in the form of a learning agreement Assessme"& me&ho# The assessment methods for individual subjects are defined separately in the syllabus for each subject They include oral and written exams, midterm exams, term papers, class projects, reports, and so on The grading scale is 2;-1 /positive0 or -;7 /negative0, and the grading process conforms to the !tatute of the University of Ljubljana and the exam policy of the :aculty of 'rts in Ljubljana (rading -1 % < % > % . % 2 % 7%- % scale) /8xcellent) exceptional results with negligible errors0, /=ery good) above average "nowledge, but with some errors0, /=ery good) solid results0, /(ood) good "nowledge, but with major errors0, /:air) "nowledge meets the minimal criteria0* /Unsatisfactory) "nowledge does not meet the minimal criteria0
