0 Introduction

Organizational learning can be defined as a process detecting and correcting error (Argyris,1977). Based on Probst & Buchel (1997), the characteristics in the process of organizational learning are change in organizational knowledge, increase the range of possible actions and the change in inter subjective constructions of reality. Organizational learning is important to correcting for error, innovating, adapting to the environment, realizing human potential for learning in the service of organizational purposes, and also to create organizational settings as contexts for human development.

Due to the task given in this assignment, we need to apply the knowledge by identifying and analyzing information related to organizational learning. The organization that we choose to be discussed in this assignment is Toyota Motor Corporation which comprised a list of high performing companies that has effectively used organizational learning to achieve their performance. Our group is advised to do some library research for the information on Toyota Motor Corporation through the internet, journals, magazines and books.

The discussion about background of Toyota Motor Corporation, the important factors that lead to and influence the organizational learning practices and activities, the ways how the organization learning practices and activities lead to organizational success, renewal, growth and also the application of the principles of learning organizational that are used by Toyota Motor Corporation in order to ensure their organizational success. We also have to conclude our findings and the points that addresses will be discussed on the next page.

2.0 Background

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japan based company mainly engaged in the automobile and financial business. It was originally a machine manufacturing company called Tayoda Automatic Loom Works, Ltd. and was owned by Sakichi Tayoda. Toyota is derived from the surname of the founder, Toyoda, with initial vehicles produced by the company that was originally sold with Toyoda symbol. The company runs a public competition in 1936 to design a new logo which leads to a change in the brand name of what is now known as the Toyota. It was the largest automobile co. and was founded by Kiichiro Tayoda on 28 August 1937 as a spinoff from his father (Sakichi Toyoda)s company and now in 2013, Akio Tayoda as a President and Representative Director.

During the establishment, Toyota has been trying to contribute to the society with a production car, doing business with a focus on vehicle production and sales. There are a lot of products that produce by them which are luxury cars, trucks and buses. As we know, Toyota Motors only focus to the high class people. They should focus to the middle class also. Toyota is striving to develop automobiles that can fulfill the needs of customers and at the same time it can achieve the optimal balance between consideration for the environmental, safety, drivability, comfort and reliability. It is the worlds second largest automaker behind General Motors. However, it ranks first in net worth, revenue and profit.

1974 Toyota Foundation is established. 1975 The prefabricated housing business begins. 1982 Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. and Toyota Motor Sales Co., Ltd. are merged into Toyota Motor Corporation. 1984 Joint venture with General Motors (New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc.) begins production in the USA. 1988 Toyota Motor Manufacturing, USA, Inc. (present TMMK) begins production. 1989 The Lexus brand is launched in the USA. 1992 Toyota Motor Manufacturing (United Kingdom) Ltd. begins production. 1997 The Prius is launched as the world's first mass-produced hybrid car. 1999 Cumulative domestic production reaches 100 million vehicles. 2000 Sichuan Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. begins production in China. 2001 Toyota Motor Manufacturing France S.A.S. begins production in France. 2002 Toyota enters Formula One World Championship; Tianjin Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. begins production in China. 2004 The Toyota Partner Robot is publicly unveiled. 2005 The Lexus brand is introduced in Japan. 2008 Worldwide Prius sales top 1 million mark. 2010 Worldwide Prius sales top 2 million mark; Toyota and Tesla Motors agree on joint EV development. 2011 Worldwide Hybrid Vehicle sales top 3 Million mark; Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi, Inc. begins production in the USA. 2012 Worldwide sales of TMC hybrids top 4 million units

2.2 Achievements Toyota Motors Corporation became the worlds biggest car maker by volume. Over the last five years, there are about 40,000 Corollas Toyota sold in India and the successful of Toyota in Indians roads are Camry, Corolla, Prado and Innova. In April 2002, Toyota adopted the 2010 Global Vision toward a recycle-oriented society, the age of Information Technology and also toward motorization on a global scale.
