1 Release Notes
The next version of SAFER TRACE 10.1 presents an overall facelift and an improved user experience. This major upgrade includes an updated user interface (designed for Windows 7 and compatible with XP), with a full screen / scalable display, logical visual controls and user functionality developed with SAFER TRACE user feedback. In addition to the interface upgrade, the release includes a new 6-digit product key for software licensing (no more 20stroke lock codes to enter) and specifically addresses a range of customer requests and reported bug fixes.

Released in December, 2012, SAFER TRACE 10.1 features the following modeling enhancements: 1. New Pool Evaporation Algorithm: SAFER has implemented a new pool evaporation algorithm based on two technical papers presented at AIChE in 2011 and 2012. This new algorithm includes the following: a. A new methodology is used to represent pool shrinking phase based on constant radius (shrinking height-HSA) as opposed to constant height (shrinking radiusRSA):

b. SAFER uses new methods for mass and heat transfer based on Churchills correlations that significantly improves the evaporation rate estimation. The pool evaporation rates are lower than in the previous version of SAFER TRACE.

d. Improvements were made to the heat balance equation for multi-component evaporation of low boiling chemicals such that the evaporation rate profile for a mixture with a high ratio of a single component is now comparable to the single component evaporation profile of that chemical.

2. Enhanced Liquid Jet Algorithm: SAFER provides users with an enhanced liquid jet algorithm to: a. Account for the initial momentum in a vessel burst scenario. b. Account for the exit velocity in tank and pipe leaks.

c. Calculate the air entrainment for tank and pipe leaks. d. Incorporate a new rainout algorithm for pool formation.

3. SAFER TRACE 10.1 also resolves the following modeling issues and bugs reported by our customers and engineers: a. The input to dispersion will now use an average to represent the transient output from tank and pool scenarios.

b. In certain circumstances, when modeling a transient release of high boiling point chemicals, a mismatch occurred between the maximum isopleth distance in the report and in the plotted footprint. These two (2) outputs are now in agreement. c. Previously when modeling elevated releases, resizing the isopleth graph below a certain range would cause it to "flood fill". This has been resolved.

d. SAFER TRACE 10.1 extends the stopping criteria for dispersion calculations to 1/10 of the lowest concentration isopleth. This results in more accurate reporting of the requested isopleths. e. Reflecting the increased resolution of the dispersion calculations, the number of snapshot and footprint profiles presented to the user is increased from 10 (TRACE 9.1) to 50 (TRACE 10.1).

Receptor Points: The number of receptor points has also been increased from 10 to 100.
g. An issue related to modeling a post dispersion flash fire was corrected. Previously, the model could terminate abnormally during certain scenarios when vapor cloud conditions were not suitable for ignition. Now, if the conditions are not suitable for ignition, a warning message is given to the user.
