Train the Trainer Series

Analyzing Training Requirements

Overview
In this lesson we will cover the elements involved in analyzing a training problem and its requirements. Using these elements will allow a trainer to gather information, critically assess needs, and begin a plan of action for training. This module is important because it provides a skeletal training structure and helps you get started with a methodical approach to planning and developing a comprehensive training session. 1. The session will cover background information on elements to analyze for training . !n e"ample will be shown demonstrating analyzing the training elements

#. $articipants will practice identifying and analyzing the training elements

Session Objective(s)
%earners will be able to describe at least three general characteristics of analysis. &hen shown the steps involved in developing and conducting training, learners will be able to describe the importance of how analyzing training requirements serves as the foundation for subsequent development. 'iven a training concern (problem or need), learners will be able to analyze training requirements by performing the following steps* + + + + + + ,tating the needs of the person or group requiring training ,pecifying positive (and negative) outcomes of training occurring (or not) Identifying learners- characteristics .ormulating general content of training need /etermining timing0related issues /escribing location for training

* and record information gathered for use in subsequent training development steps.

Analyzing Training 1equirements Elements to Consider in Analyzing Training Req irements

Analyzing a training requirement means using a systematic approach to identify, select, describe and review elements which will be used to develop training. !nalysis is the act of carefully gathering and looking at as much data as you can, organizing and arranging the data in ways to make it useful, then making sound decisions based on conclusions drawn from results. + 'ather as much data or information as is pertinent to the setting or problem + !rrange data in meaningful ways2 + 3rganize like items together, etc. + %ook for patterns of arrangement + /iscard unnecessary or gather additional data as needed + /efine categories or groups, identify sequences or cause0effect relationships There are five main steps in developing and conducting training2 + !nalyzing the training requirement + /eveloping learning ob4ectives + 3utlining the training content + /eveloping the training + 5onducting the training !nalysis is the first step in the process because it helps a trainer decide where to start. 3nce a start point is determined, a trainer works through a development process which builds on the analysis and helps decide what to train and how to do it.
