Answer all questions in this section 1. Let Pearsons correlation coefficient between variables x and y for a random sample be r. (a) (i) What does r measure? (ii) state the range of possible values of r and what it means when r = 0. (b) A sample of 10 data points maybe summarized as follows: Calculate Pearsons correlation coefficient between x and y. Comment on your answer. [3] [1] [2]

2. The marks of a Mathematics test are normally distributed with mean 52 and standard deviation 8. (a) If the passing mark is 30, find the probability that a pupil selected randomly passes the test. [3] (b) If 65% of the pupils pass the test, estimate the lowest passing mark. [3]

5. The following table shows the average prices and quantities of 4 types of meat bought by a family for the months of January and November 2009.

Meat Chicken Mutton Beef Fish

January Price Quantity (RM per kg) (kg) 2.20 20 4.80 10 5.00 10 10.00 15

November Price Quantity (RM per kg) (kg) 3.50 10 5.20 9 x 8 12.00 10

Find the probability that at most two flower vases having cracks. [4] (b) Determine the minimum number of flower vases to be chosen so that the probability that no flower vases having cracks is less than 0.1. [4] (c) By using a suitable approximation, find the probability that in a random sample of 100 flower vases. (i) less than 15 flower vases have cracks. [4] (ii) between 10 and 15 flower vases inclusive have cracks [3]
